Woman killed, five injured in accident at Mettupalayam

A 32-year-old woman died after the car she was travelling in along with her two children, mother and grandmother met with an accident at Mettupalayam on Friday. The police said that A. Nandhini of Angalamman Compound at Mahadevapuram in Mettupalayam died while four family members and the driver suffered injuries. The accident took place at Tank Medu, around 2 km off Mettupalayam town on Annur Road, around 4.15 p.m. when the six persons were returning from Uthukuli in Tiruppur district. Mettupalayam Inspector P. Chinnakamanan said the front right tyre burst when the car was on the move, due to which the driver lost control of the vehicle. The car turned to the right side and hit the right rear wheel of a truck that came from the opposite side. The car further swerved to the right and collided with another truck from the opposite direction. The six persons were rescued and rushed to Government Hospital in Mettupalayam. However, doctors declared Nandhini dead on arrival. The injured were identified as Nandhini’s daughter Harshini, 10, son Raghavan,7, mother Gomathi, 48, grandmother Ramathaal, 70, and driver Ashwin, 29, who were later shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.

The injured were identified as Nandhini’s daughter Harshini, 10, son Raghavan,7, mother Gomathi, 48, grandmother Ramathaal, 70, and driver Ashwin, 29, who were later shifted to Coimbatore Medical College Hospital.
