Report that LaMelo Ball would be open to trade, but he clowns rumor on social media

LaMelo Ball has put up counting stats this season when on the court, averaging 21.6 points, 9.6 assists and 6.9 rebounds a game in the nine games he has played. That said, he is shooting just 38.5% from the floor — 29.8% from 3-point range. He has helped make the Hornets competitive in games, but still they have stumbled to a 4-11 start to the season. Which is why there is some logic to the idea that Ball would be open to a trade, maybe around the February deadline, and Kelly Iko of Yahoo Sports reported that he is. Star guard LaMelo Ball has grown increasingly frustrated with the organization and is open to a trade away from the franchise, multiple league sources told Yahoo Sports ... League sources say the front office is increasingly hesitant about cementing Ball as a long-term foundational piece, has become disillusioned with the 24-year-old and is open to moving him. LaMelo responded to that on X, shooting the idea down. If that response doesn’t make it clear, Ball has not asked for a trade. What’s more, the Hornets front office is not looking to move Ball right now, reports Jake Fischer at Bleacher Report. Understandably, Charlotte wants to get Brandon Miller back from his shoulder issue and see what this team looks like when fully healthy (they may be 4-11, but they have played more competitively than their record suggests). That said, there are playoff teams in need of point guard play — Orlando, maybe Houston and others — who are monitoring the situation. There would be a market for Ball, although because of his injury history and defensive issues, that trade would not bring back as much as the Hornets may imagine. It’s not just Ball’s situation that teams are monitoring. The same is true of Ja Morant in Memphis and Trae Young in Atlanta, both of them are currently out injured.

'Unsustainable': Nation's leading judge sounds AI alarm

Australian judges are becoming "human filters" as artificial intelligence is increasingly used in legal proceedings, with the High Court's chief justice warning the prevalence of machine-generated arguments is unsustainable. In an address to the Australian Legal Convention in Canberra on Friday, Stephen Gageler said there were increasing examples of AI being used inappropriately by litigants and legal practitioners. "We have entered an unsustainable phase in the prevalence of the use of AI in litigation in which members of the Australian Judicature (courts and judges) are acting as human filters and human adjudicators of competing machine-generated or machine-enhanced arguments," he said. Noting the need to proceed with caution in applying AI to the law, Justice Gageler said the efficiency of the technology meant it could significantly contribute to the functioning of courts and tribunals in a system aiming to be "just, quick and cheap". "It will become both meaningful and important to answer questions the asking of which would have been inconceivable ten years ago," he said. "Why and how much do we value the humanity of the law? Does, and if so, to what extent does maintaining the humanity of the law necessitate the exercise of human judgment?" Justice Gageler said law was one part of the digital transformation with which humanity was grappling, and that the pace of development of AI was outstripping human capacity to assess its potential risks and rewards. "In the uncertain meantime, the Australian judicature has no option but to engage," he said. A review is under way into the use of AI in the law by the Victorian Law Reform Commission, with practice directions issued in most of the nation's jurisdictions, some more strict than others. Before his appointment to the High Court in 2023, Justice Gageler had served as Australia's solicitor-general. Australian Associated Press

“Children with inherited CTE”: Fans outraged after article targets Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s future kids with offensive jokes

A recent article published in New York Magazine’s Stupid Issue has put Vulture at the center of a growing backlash, after Taylor Swift fans and health experts condemned the piece for making what they describe as ableist, misogynistic, and scientifically misleading remarks. The article, which attempted to mock themes from Swift’s album The Life of a Showgirl, crossed a line for many readers when it referenced chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) while discussing hypothetical children Swift might have with her fiancé. What was intended as satire quickly became a flashpoint for criticism, especially as the comments involved a serious neurological condition and misrepresented its causes. As online outrage escalates, Vulture has quietly deleted the article link on X, but has yet to publicly address the controversy.Vulture faces backlash after Swifties accuse ‘Stupid Issue’ article of using ableist jokesThe most inflammatory line from the article read, “It’s not just that the album also features the line ‘Did you girlboss too close to the sun?’ and a startling, detailed account of how she plans to start a neighborhood full of children with inherited CTE with the help of her fiancé’s gigantic football d*ck.”The mention of “inherited CTE” immediately drew fire, as critics argued it trivialized a life-altering condition linked to repeated head impacts, most commonly seen in contact sports. Fans also argued the remark targeted Swift’s hypothetical children in a cruel, sexist way, turning a health condition into a punchline. One reaction that went viral said, “we’ve reached a point where ‘cultural criticism’ means inventing hypothetical children with neurological diseases just to attack taylor”. Another added, “What an utterly bizarre and cruel thing to say, making sweeping ableist statements and attacking Taylor Swift’s unborn children”.The backlash extended beyond Swift’s fanbase. A public health professional warned that presenting CTE as genetic spreads dangerous misinformation, stating, “the suggestion that CTE can be passed from parent to child is dangerous misinformation… & should never have passed review.”Vulture’s decision to delete the link without explanation has only intensified frustration, leaving readers demanding accountability for a piece many believe crossed the line between satire and harm. Also Read: “She doesn’t want to see him”: Taylor Swift refuses Joe Alwyn’s plea for closure as she happily moved on with Travis KelceGet an chance to win ₹5000 Amazon Voucher by taking part in India's Biggest Habit Index! US plan for Ukraine war would cede territory to Russia

US President Donald Trump's plan for ending the war in Ukraine would cede territory to Russia and limit the size of Kyiv's military, according to a draft proposal obtained by The Associated Press. The proposal would also prevent the future expansion of NATO, a significant victory for Moscow, which views the alliance as a potential threat. In addition, $US100 billion in frozen Russian assets would be dedicated to rebuilding Ukraine. There would also be a path to reintegrating Russia in the global economy, including the future lifting of sanctions. The country would also return to what was formerly known as the Group of 8, which includes many of the world's biggest economies. According to a person familiar with the matter, the emerging framework includes promises from Moscow that it will make no further attacks, something White House officials view as a concession by Russian President Vladimir Putin. He has repeatedly justified the war by claiming Ukraine was a state created artificially by Soviet leaders. The framework also includes economic incentives for both sides. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy pledged to work with Washington and expected to discuss the plan with Trump in coming days. But Zelenskiy, whose office said he had received a draft, said after meeting US Army Secretary Daniel Driscoll in Kyiv that Ukraine and Washington would work together on elements of it. "Our teams - Ukraine and the USA - will work on the points of the plan to end the war," Zelenskiy wrote on Telegram. "We are ready for constructive, honest and prompt work." Zelenskiy's office did not comment directly on the content of the 28-point plan, which has not been published, but said he had "outlined the fundamental principles that matter to our people". "In the coming days, the President of Ukraine expects to discuss with President Trump the existing diplomatic opportunities and the key points required to achieve peace," it said. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told a news briefing that Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US special envoy Steve Witkoff had been quietly working on the plan for about a month and Trump supports the plan. She said the US engaged equally with the Ukrainians and the Russians on the text. Zelenskiy's office said Driscoll had presented him with the plan only on Thursday, and several sources told Reuters and other media outlets that the plan was the fruit of backchannel conversations between Witkoff and Kirill Dmitriev, the special envoy of Putin. In a message on X, Rubio said the US "will continue to develop a list of potential ideas for ending this war based on input from both sides of this conflict" and that peace will require concessions from both Kyiv and Moscow. The acceleration in US diplomacy comes at an awkward time for Kyiv, with its troops on the back foot on the battlefield and Zelenskiy's government undermined by a corruption scandal. Moscow played down any new US initiative. "Consultations are not currently under way. There are contacts, of course, but there is no process that could be called consultations," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said. He said Russia had nothing to add beyond the position Putin laid out at a summit with Trump in August, adding that any peace deal must address the "root causes of the conflict", a phrase Moscow has long used to refer to its demands. With another winter approaching in the nearly four-year-old war, Russian troops occupy almost one-fifth of Ukraine and are slowly advancing while bombarding Ukrainian energy supplies and cities as the cold winter sets in. with DPA and AP Australian Associated Press

Dak Prescott is 160 passing yards from Tony Romo's all-time team record

Dak Prescott owns three team passing records. He should add another on Sunday against the Eagles. The Cowboys quarterback is 160 passing yards from the team’s career record. He has not had fewer than 188 passing yards this season. Tony Romo, Prescott’s predecessor, had 34,183 passing yards in his career. Prescott went over 34,000 career passing yards in the victory over the Raiders on Monday night. “I’m humbled,” Prescott said Thursday, via Schuyler Dixon of the Associated Press. “Thankful to be healthy and to be in this position to do it. I was on the production call, and they asked me the same thing: Would I have thought this 10 years ago? And I said, ‘Yeah, I was very arrogant as a rookie.’ “When you’ve played in this game long enough, and you can stay healthy, with my expectations of what my play is, that’s supposed to happen. So just thankful, humbled, super grateful to be playing a game I love at this high of a level. To still be doing it and look forward to keep going any of those that will happen.” Prescott already holds the team records for career completion percentage (67.1), career completions (3,033) and career passer rating (98.5). He ranks second in passing yards, attempts (4,521) and passing touchdowns (234) and is third in total wins (80). Troy Aikman is the all-time leader in attempts (4,715) and wins (94), and Romo ranks first in passing touchdowns (247). But Prescott, of course, does not have what Roger Staubach and Aikman have. He is only 2-5 in the postseason and has never played in an NFC Championship Game, while Staubach and Aikman combined for five Super Bowl titles.

Tropical cyclone set to intensify, residents scramble

The first cyclone of the season is set to intensify as it approaches northern Australia, prompting a warning for Top End residents to prepare for destructive winds. Tropical Cyclone Fina weakened to a category one system overnight but is expected to restrengthen as it moves toward the Northern Territory. Darwin has been placed in a "warning zone" amid fears the system could intensify into a destructive category three system later on Friday. Locals have stocked up on supplies as they brace for winds that could damage houses and vehicles, fell trees and cut power while "throwing around the outdoor furniture". Early on Friday, Cyclone Fina was sustaining winds near the centre of 75km/h, with gusts up to 100km/h, and was about 335km northeast of Darwin, moving slowly. The system could intensify into a category two while tracking southwest on Friday and approaching the Cobourg Peninsula and Tiwi Islands. It is set to continue southwest through the Van Diemen Gulf on Saturday, heading just to the north of Darwin. There was a chance it could reach category three intensity late on Friday or early Saturday as it moved into the Gulf, the Bureau of Meteorology said. A warning zone was in place early on Friday for Darwin, the Tiwi Islands and Cape Hotham to Warruwi, including the Cobourg Peninsula, Minjilang and Gunbalanya. Damaging wind gusts of up to 120km/h over the Cobourg Peninsula may hit on Friday morning, with gales expected to extend further west to include the Tiwi Islands late on Friday, and Darwin during Saturday. Destructive wind gusts up to 155km/h may develop between Cape Don and Warruwi on Friday as the system nears the coast, extending to the Tiwi Islands early on Saturday and possibly to Darwin later in the day.The bureau warned that heavy rain could cause flash flooding in coastal areas between the Tiwis and Warruwi from Friday, extending to the coast and nearby inland areas, including Darwin, on Saturday.Coastal residents on the Tiwis and between Cape Hotham and Warruwi are warned of a dangerous storm tide. Top End residents have been stocking up on basics with bottled water, bread, canned goods and other household supplies flying off supermarket shelves. Multiple weekend sports and entertainment events have also been cancelled. Senior Meteorologist Angus Hines said Darwin residents could expect potentially damaging winds on Saturday from lunchtime. "Those very strong winds could bring down trees, cause damage to vehicles and houses and it could lead to power outages, throwing around the outdoor furniture, fences and roof panels." Rain will also intensify across Darwin on Saturday, leading to potential flash flooding. By late Sunday, conditions in the Top End will start to ease as Fina moves into Western Australia. The cyclone should not longer impact NT by Wednesday, Mr Hines said. Darwin residents have been urged to ensure they have an emergency plan and to shelter at home, with most buildings made to withstand cyclones. Cyclone Tracy was the most devastating system to hit Darwin, killing 66 people after it was destroyed on Christmas Day in 1974. Australian Associated Press

What happened to Keon Coleman and why is the Bills rookie a healthy scratch for the second straight game?

The Buffalo Bills made headlines once again on Thursday night when wide receiver Keon Coleman was ruled inactive for their matchup against the Houston Texans, a surprising development considering he was fully healthy. For the second straight week, the rookie standout was benched after showing up late to a team meeting before Buffalo’s game against Tampa Bay. Amid the Bills’ playoff push and with injuries piling up at the receiver position, Coleman’s absence became even more noticeable, prompting questions about accountability within the locker room and how coach Sean McDermott plans to balance discipline with the team’s immediate needs. Coleman’s situation highlights how easily a promising season can be derailed if expectations aren’t met on and off the field.Keon Coleman’s discipline issue continues as Bills navigate injuries and reshuffle their receiving groupSean McDermott confirmed that Coleman’s benching remained a direct consequence of his tardiness. “He was inactive for last weekend's game against Tampa Bay as punishment,” McDermott said, reiterating that the young receiver must meet the team’s standards. This wasn’t Coleman’s first infraction, he was previously benched for the opening series against New England in Week 5 after being late to another meeting.Coleman’s on-field performance makes the discipline sting even more. With 32 receptions, 330 yards, and three touchdowns this season, he has been one of the more reliable young targets for Buffalo. Yet the Bills chose to maintain their stance, even as they faced depth issues at receiver.Earlier in the day, Buffalo placed recently signed veteran Mecole Hardman on injured reserve after he suffered a calf injury in his team debut. Hardman’s setback removed a key piece of depth the Bills hoped to lean on late in the season. To fill the gaps, the team elevated Gabe Davis and tight end Keleki Latu from the practice squad.Meanwhile, the Texans entered the matchup with their own challenges. Quarterback C.J. Stroud and safety Jalen Pitre were ruled out for a third consecutive game due to concussions, while kicker Ka’imi Fairbairn returned from a quadriceps injury. For the Bills, Coleman’s situation now becomes a test of maturity and discipline. His talent is undeniable, but proving he can uphold team expectations is the next step in his development and Buffalo’s decisions make it clear that the standard won’t bend, even for a rising star. Also Read: Where is Khalil Shakir? Trump plan to end Ukraine war would cede territory to Russia

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump's plan for ending the war in Ukraine would cede territory to Russia and limit the size of Kyiv's military, according to a draft proposal obtained Thursday by The Associated Press. Washington and Moscow worked together on the draft, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed with a U.S. representative Thursday. If enacted, it would resolve a conflict that began nearly four years ago by requiring significant concessions from Kyiv and European leaders. For example, the proposal would not only bar Ukraine from joining NATO but would also prevent the alliance's future expansion. Such a step would be a significant victory for Moscow, which views NATO as a threat. Russian President Vladimir Putin would also gain ground that he has been unable to win on the battlefield. Under the draft, Moscow would hold all the eastern Donbas region, even though approximately 14% still remains in Ukrainian hands. There would be a path to lifting sanctions on Russia and returning the country to what was formerly known as the Group of 8, which includes many of the world's biggest economies. Russia would commit to making no future attacks, something the White House views as a concession. In addition, $100 billion in frozen Russian assets would be dedicated to rebuilding Ukraine. However, handing over territory to Russia would be deeply unpopular in Ukraine. It also would be illegal under Ukraine’s constitution. Zelenskyy has repeatedly ruled out such a possibility. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff have been quietly working on the peace plan for a month, receiving input from both Ukrainians and Russians on terms that are acceptable to each side, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Thursday. Witkoff and Kirill Dmitriev, a close adviser to Putin, have been key to drafting the proposal. In other developments, Russia’s chief military officer, Gen. Valery Gerasimov, announced that Moscow’s forces had taken full control of Kupiansk in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region, although he also said some Ukrainian troops remained in the city. The general staff for Ukraine’s armed forces denied Gerasimov’s claims and said Kyiv’s forces remained in control of Kupiansk. Madhani reported from Washington. Associated Press journalists Sam McNeil in Brussels, Samya Kullab in Kyiv and Katie Marie Davies in Manchester, England, contributed to this report. Opinion ACT and Queensland lead Australia's economic growth

The Australian Capital Territory and Queensland have won bragging rights for having the fastest growing economies in Australia in 2024-25. Their growth was highlighted in annual data on gross state product (GSP), released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics. GSP is the state and territory equivalent of gross domestic product (GDP), the most commonly used measure of the size of the national economy. Across the nation, total GDP grew by 1.4 per cent in the year to June 2025, with strength across the service sector offset by weakness in mining and manufacturing. The fastest growing state or territory economy in 2024-25 was the ACT, which expanded by a robust 3.5 per cent. It was followed by Queensland, which grew by 2.2 per cent. They were the only states or territories to outpace the national growth rate. The others mostly grew by around 1 per cent. The ACT and Queensland were also, along with Tasmania, the only ones where GSP grew faster than population. These figures, given in real terms, exclude the impact of inflation. The ACT, with a population of 484,000, has a larger GSP than Tasmania - despite the Apple Isle's bigger population of 576,000. Unsurprisingly, New South Wales and Victoria, the most populous states, have the largest sized economies overall. They account for 31 per cent and 23 per cent of our national economy. But their GSP grew only by 0.9 per cent and by 1.1 per cent respectively. The differences reflect the different industry composition of the states. Nationally, the mining sector was affected by severe weather and unplanned disruptions. This held back activity in Queensland, Western Australia and the Northern Territory. Weakness in the manufacturing industry also restrained economic growth in some states. The ACT, with a services-based economy, was barely affected. It benefited from increased public sector activity, with public administration and safety rising 7.2 per cent. The near completion of some major transport projects caused construction to detract from economic growth in NSW. But this was offset by a strong harvest that boosted the agriculture sector, the Bureau of Statistics said. While strong population growth led to housing construction providing a boost to the WA economy, residential construction was weak in Tasmania. Favourable rural conditions meant that agriculture made a large contribution in NSW, Queensland, Western Australia, Tasmania and the Northern Territory. In contrast, a drought meant agriculture was a large detractor in South Australia. There are differences in real GSP per person across the states and territories. Western Australia produces more per person due to its large mining industry. This produces large amounts of revenue, but employs relatively few people. A similar pattern can be seen in the data on real gross state income per person. This also captures the impact of swings in the prices of exports and imports. Again, the major industry where this is important is mining. This creates more volatility in the average incomes in Western Australia and the Northern Territory than in other parts of the country. Western Australia's recent good fortune in having high incomes from high mineral prices is shared by redistributing some of it to the other states and territories through the Commonwealth Grants Commission process. In the same way, WA has been supported by the rest of Australia when it was poorer for most of the 20th century.

How ageing affects your eyes: Understanding presbyopia, cataracts, glaucoma, and other common vision problem

As we age, our bodies naturally go through many changes, and our eyes are no exception. Ageing can affect vision gradually, sometimes in ways you might barely notice, while other times it can lead to more serious eye problems. Understanding how our eyes change over time is important for keeping them healthy, preventing complications, and maintaining a good quality of life. From slightly blurred vision to a higher risk of conditions like cataracts or glaucoma, these changes are a normal part of ageing. Regular eye check-ups and proper care can help manage these effects and protect your eyesight.Common age-related changes in visionAs we age, subtle changes in our eyes become increasingly common, and not just in how things look, but how they feel, too. One major shift many people notice in their 40s is presbyopia, where the eye’s lens stiffens and makes it harder to focus on nearby objects. At the same time, our pupils shrink, which reduces the amount of light entering the eye, making dim environments more challenging. Meanwhile, tear production can decline, leading to dry, irritated eyes. A study published in the Ophthalmology journal found that individuals over 60 have a significantly higher risk of dry eye disease, due to age-related changes in tear film stability and gland function.1. Presbyopia (Difficulty focusing on near objects)One of the most common changes with age is presbyopia, which usually becomes noticeable in your early 40s. The lens of the eye gradually loses elasticity, making it harder to focus on close-up objects. Reading small print, using smartphones, or threading a needle can become challenging. Presbyopia is a normal part of ageing and can often be corrected with reading glasses, bifocals, or multifocal contact lenses.2. Reduced pupil size and light sensitivityAs we age, the pupils tend to shrink, and the iris muscles weaken. This can reduce the amount of light entering the eye, causing difficulty seeing in dim lighting or at night. Older adults may find it harder to drive after dark or navigate poorly lit areas. Using brighter lighting at home and anti-glare lenses can help manage this issue.3. Dry eyesAgeing can lead to a decrease in tear production, resulting in dry eyes. This condition causes irritation, burning, and a gritty sensation in the eyes. It is particularly common in postmenopausal women due to hormonal changes. Over-the-counter lubricating eye drops, staying hydrated, and limiting screen time can relieve discomfort.Common eye problems in older adults: Cataracts, glaucoma, and more1. CataractsCataracts occur when the lens of the eye becomes cloudy, leading to blurred or dim vision. According to research, cataracts affect nearly 50% of adults over 65. Symptoms include difficulty reading, glare from lights, and faded colours. Cataract surgery is a highly effective treatment, restoring vision in most patients.2. GlaucomaGlaucoma is a group of eye diseases that damage the optic nerve, often due to increased pressure in the eye. Age is a significant risk factor, with people over 60 being more susceptible. The condition can progress silently and may lead to permanent vision loss if undetected. Regular eye exams are essential for early detection and treatment.3. Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD)AMD affects the central part of the retina (the macula), causing blurred or distorted central vision. It is one of the leading causes of vision loss in older adults. Risk factors include age, smoking, and genetics. While there is no cure for AMD, certain lifestyle changes, nutritional supplements, and treatments can slow its progression.4. Diabetic retinopathyAgeing increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, which can lead to diabetic retinopathy. High blood sugar levels damage the blood vessels in the retina, causing vision problems and, in severe cases, blindness. Managing blood sugar, regular eye examinations, and timely medical interventions are crucial for preventing complications.Disclaimer: This article is for informational purposes only and should not be considered medical advice. Medical experts believe this specific age is the point where you must stop drinking

Most people assume that cutting back on alcohol is something they can decide on instinct, a personal choice rather than a medical milestone. But researchers and clinicians have been asking a more pointed question: is there an age when drinking becomes significantly riskier than before? And if so, what actually changes inside the body at that point? New medical guidance suggests that the answer may be more specific, and more sobering, than many expect. Why researchers point to the late sixties as a turning point According to guidance from the University of Rochester Medical Centre, the body’s response to alcohol changes substantially with age. After 65, lean muscle mass and total body water decline, and metabolism slows. Their clinicians note that this means alcohol “stays in your system longer,” producing higher blood-alcohol levels than the same drinks would have generated decades earlier. They also warn that alcohol interacts more strongly with medications for conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure and ulcers. The centre also states that sensitivity to alcohol increases because older adults are more likely to have issues with balance, eyesight and reaction time, factors they say place people at higher risk of “falls, broken bones, and car crashes tied to drinking.” American neurologist Dr Richard Restak argues that the risks extend to the brain itself. In his 2021 book The Complete Guide to Memory: The Science of Strengthening Your Mind, he writes that alcohol is “a very, very weak neurotoxin – it’s not good for nerve cells,” and maintains that continued drinking in later life may worsen age-related neuron loss. Although he notes that research suggests humans lose only “2 to 4 per cent” of neurons across a lifetime, he stresses that preservation becomes more important as people grow older. His guidance is blunt:“I strongly suggest that if you are 65 years old or older, that you completely and permanently eliminate alcohol from your diet.” Dr Restak claims that significant reductions should begin at 65, with complete abstinence by 70, arguing that this stage of life is when “preserving neurons is crucial.” He also highlights research cited by the Alzheimer’s Society, which shows that people who drink excessively have a higher risk of developing dementia over time. What Cutting Down Looks Like, According to Medical AdviceThe University of Rochester Medical Centre aligns closely with Dr Restak’s suggested age threshold, though for slightly different reasons. Their guidance focuses on alcohol’s interaction with chronic conditions common in later life, and the increased physical harm associated with impaired balance and slower reaction times. They also cite wider risks associated with prolonged heavy drinking, including cancer and liver disease. The National Institute on Alcohol and Alcoholism advises that healthy adults over 65 who do not take medication should still limit intake to no more than seven drinks a week, and “no more than 1 to 2 drinks in a day.” What counts as a standard drink? According to the National Institute on Alcohol and Alcoholism, a standard drink is defined by its alcohol content, not by the size of the glass, bottle or can. A single standard drink contains about 14 grams of pure alcohol — roughly 0.6 fluid ounces, or around 18 millilitres, yet this amount can be reached very differently depending on the beverage. Many assume that a pint of beer, a glass of wine and a shot of spirits are comparable, but alcohol by volume varies widely. For example, some light beers contain almost as much alcohol as regular beers, while certain craft beers can contain double the strength. The size of the drink alone is therefore not a reliable guide. A standard drink is approximately the amount of alcohol found in:12 ounces (about 355 ml) of regular beer at around 5% alcohol by volume5 ounces (about 148 ml) of wine at around 12% alcohol by volume1.5 ounces (about 44 ml) of distilled spirits at around 40% alcohol by volume By contrast, a 12-ounce (about 355 ml) craft beer at 10% alcohol contains the equivalent of two standard drinks. Health researchers note that understanding this difference can help people interpret drinking guidelines more accurately, particularly as alcohol strength varies sharply across products. These definitions are used by medical organisations to describe alcohol content; they are not recommendations to drink, nor do they imply that any amount is safe for every individual. For clinicians such as Dr Restak, however, even moderate consumption becomes harder to justify as the brain ages. He argues that removing alcohol entirely is a way to reduce cumulative neurological stress, protect long-term memory and lower the risks that accompany slowed metabolism, reduced muscle mass and altered medication responses. Whether individuals choose to follow that advice is a personal decision. But the age at which drinking becomes riskier, according to multiple medical sources, appears less ambiguous than many imagined, and for most people, it arrives sooner than expected.Get an chance to win ₹5000 Amazon Voucher by taking part in India's Biggest Habit Index!
