Wontumi spent three nights in police custody before being freed on bail.

After spending three nights in police prison, Bernard Antwi Boasiako, also known as Chairman Wontumi, the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was released. He was released after meeting the terms of GH₵25 million in bail for two different illicit mining cases that were still ongoing against him. He had previously, on October 7, not complied with the bail set down in the aforementioned proceedings before the Accra High Court’s Criminal Division. He was given GH₵15 million bail with two sureties in one of the cases, and GH₵10 million bail with two sureties in another, which also required one to be supported by landed property. The court also mandated that Wontumi refrain from leaving the country without permission and report to investigators once a week for the first month. The troubled NPP chairman is accused of illegally conducting mining activities and enabling environmental damage in the Tano Nimire Forest Reserve, among other mining-related offences. He has entered a not guilty plea to every accusation.
