Billionaire Meets with White House to Discuss Potential CNN Anchor Changes Amid Son’s Interest in Network Acquisition

In a recent development, Larry Ellison, the billionaire father of David Ellison, who owns Paramount, has been rumored to suggest major changes at CNN if his son successfully acquires Warner Bros Discovery, the network’s parent company. This information comes from a new report. According to insiders speaking with The Guardian, Larry Ellison discussed the potential removal of prominent CNN hosts Erin Burnett and Brianna Keilar during conversations with White House officials. The sources noted that the anchors were mentioned due to their lack of favor with former President Donald Trump. The 81-year-old Oracle co-founder is also said to have considered a shift in programming that would integrate the iconic CBS News program, 60 Minutes, into CNN’s lineup. This consideration follows Paramount’s recent acquisition by his son, David, a deal that Larry Ellison helped finance. The report, released on Thursday, has generated buzz within CNN’s New York City headquarters located at Hudson Yards, as reported by Status. David Ellison, who is 42, has reportedly made an undisclosed offer for the entire Warner Bros Discovery portfolio, which includes CNN. David Ellison, 42, has entered an unknown bid for the entire WBD portfolio, including CNN. Larry and David are the only prospective WBD bidders who want to buy CNN as part of any deal. Others are said to be willing to spin off the ailing cable network into a separate company while focusing on more promising assets like Warner Bros. movie studio and HBO. Larry Ellison, a well-known GOP donor, donated to Trump’s 2024 campaign and does not play a formal role within Paramount. He is, however, the company’s primary shareholder – and he fourth-richest man in the world with a net worth of nearly $200billion. The Daily Mail has reached out to Paramount for comment on the report Friday. Reps from CNN declined to comment. Burnett, 49, has been with CNN since 2011 after joining from CNBC. Keilar , 45, joined CNN as a correspondent in 2006, after several years with CBS News. The two have offered critical reporting Trump for years, but are far from the only CNN stars known for targeting the president. Burnett – currently the host of hour-long primetime program Erin Burnett OutFront – last week tore into the conservative for what she saw as inconsistencies in his story about Jeffrey Epstein on November 13. On Thursday, she hosted Democratic Rep. Chrissy Houlahan to criticize Trump for accusing six Democratic lawmakers of of ‘seditious behavior, punishable by death’ for a video urging members of the military to not follow orders if they are unlawful. Keilar did the same later in the night on News Central with Congressman Chris Deluzio (D-PA), one of the politicians in the video, calling Trump’s comments ‘outrageous.’ Last year, she tore into the president for his false claims about Haitian immigrants. The news comes after former New York Times opinion editor Bari Weiss was minted as CBS News’ chief on October 6 after ‘informally consulting’ the network for weeks, a source told the Daily Mail last month. David Ellison personally headhunted Weiss after buying Paramount in July. She is said to be keen to hire a new evening news star, with Fox News host Bret Baier and CNN favorite Anderson Cooper among her rumored top picks. Weiss resigned from Times in 2021 to found the Free Press, which was purchased by Ellison in October for roughly $150 million. After being named CEO, Ellison pledged to shed any prior political connotations that may be tied to the company after a string of controversies and claims of ‘deceptive’ editing practices from both Donald Trump and Homeland Security boss Kristi Noem. Before the merger, Paramount balked at settling a lawsuit with Trump that claimed a 60 Minutes interview with a then-campaigning Kamala Harris was ‘deceptively edited.’ The suit was settled for $16million days before the FCC approved the merger. Other companies who have entered a bid for Warner Bros. Discovery – sans CNN – include NBC News parent Comcast and Netflix.

Meghan Markle’s Adorable Reaction to ‘Perfect 10’ Compliment Sparks Buzz at Glamorous Photoshoot

During her Harper’s Bazaar photo shoot, Meghan Markle appeared bashful as she was complimented for being a ’10 out of 10′ in exclusive behind-the-scenes footage released this week. The candid moments, shared on the Duchess of Sussex’s Instagram, capture Meghan looking slightly overwhelmed by the admiration as she sits barefoot on the set. Clad in a simple white shirt paired with black trousers, the 44-year-old Duchess blushes and modestly covers her face with her hand while a male crew member praises her with a ’10 out of 10′ remark. She responds with a playful glance in his direction, accompanied by a laugh, before turning her gaze away. Additional unseen clips reveal a heartfelt moment where she embraces Samira Nasr, the editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar. Nasr, who hails from Canada, made history as the first black woman to lead the prestigious magazine, having previously served as the executive fashion director at Vanity Fair. Ms Nasr reposted the behind the scenes footage on her own Instagram account, captioning it ‘This lady!!’ with a heart emoji. She added: ‘My endless gratitude to everyone who was on set’. It comes after the Duchess was unveiled as the cover star of the magazine’s December 2025/January 2026 edition on Thursday, wearing Dior and seemingly no make up. To coincide with the release Meghan previously shared a black-and-white video showing her posing for the cameras and looking thoughtfully into the distance, and thanked the ‘extraordinary’ team behind the shoot for the ‘unforgettable experience’. On Friday she also shared clips of her posing while someone off camera suggested she should be ‘romantic’. In response, she placed one hand on the side of her face and gave a slight smile to the camera. And last night the Duchess teased fans that the photoshoot was not the only project they could expect to see in the coming days and weeks. A post by her lifestyle firm As Ever in the early hours of Saturday on Instagram said: ‘It’s been a week of many surprises, reveals and mic drops for our brand and for our founder, Meghan. ‘So we thought: why stop now? We have something else up our sleeve – and it might just be the best one yet.’ The post was accompanied by a picture of Christmas stockings hanging from a mantelpiece. The As Ever founder spoke in her Harper’s Bazaar interview about how she was first drawn to her husband, Prince Harry, 41, for his ‘childlike wonder and playfulness’ after they met in 2016. The interview took place at the famed Beverly Hills Hotel in LA, and saw the Duchess be given an unsolicited cappuccino with a portrait of herself from a trip to South Africa. She said of Harry, whom she married in 2018: ‘He loves me so boldly, fully, and he also has a different perspective because he sees media that I wouldn’t.’ ‘No one in the world loves me more than him, so I know he’s always going to make sure that he has my back,’ she continued. The couple share two children together – son Archie Harrison, six, and daughter Lilibet Diana, four. She also addressed her recent appearance at Paris Fashion Week where she attended the Balenciaga show. She is understood to have gone to support her friend Pierpaolo Piccioli, who was leading his first at the helm as creative director – although it was later reported she essentially invited herself. Addressing the situation, Meghan said: ‘I was excited for him. ‘I reached out and I said, “Happy to come and support you.” We kept it a secret, and it was really fun.’

Local Residents Express Concerns Over School’s Encouragement of Kindness Towards Migrant Camp Children

Residents living next to a newly established camp set to accommodate 600 male asylum seekers are expressing frustration towards a local school for advising students to be ‘kind and caring’ towards the newcomers. The Army Training Camp in Crowborough, East Sussex, is preparing to receive hundreds of unaccompanied male migrants by January. This development came to the attention of the community only after details were leaked to a newspaper. During a meeting last week, parents voiced their concerns to Andrew Larter, a Home Office official. They were troubled by reports that their children had been instructed to ‘welcome’ the migrants, questioning, “Weren’t we taught to be cautious of strangers?” The situation intensified when footage from the crowded public meeting at the Crowborough community center surfaced online. It revealed that an assembly had taken place at a nearby secondary school and sixth form, sparking further debate. Reports suggest that during the assembly, students were encouraged to show friendliness toward the migrants. Local resident William Penfold commented, “Last week, they held an assembly where children were told to be kind and caring to the immigrants arriving, including those termed as illegal immigrants.” ‘Weren’t we raised to be careful of strangers? Are they expecting us, our children, to talk to them? This is completely wrong.’ A parent, who gave his name as Ben, said: ‘How can our children enjoy their freedom when there are 600 unvetted young men wandering around the town. ‘How schools now going to cope with the fact that the majority of these children are going to be driven to school.’ ‘How are parents going to be confident to allow their children to go to local parks into the town and enjoy their childhood and their freedom?,’ he added. Parents said the wellbeing of school pupils had been affected since the plans to house migrants at the army camp were announced at the end of last month. Residents also challenged the Home Office’s director of asylum accommodation Andrew Larter on how the government intended to manage the 600 men, which would increase the town’s 20,000 population by 3 per cent. One asked: ‘How do you plan to meet the sexual needs of 600 men?’ Mr Larter replied: ‘I don’t.’ Other residents brought up recent cases reported in the press, such as asylum seeker Hadush Kebatu. Kebatu had been staying at the Bell Hotel in Epping, used by the government to house migrants, when he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl in Epping, Essex. He was jailed for 12 months but was accidentally released from prison by mistake, sparking a two-day manhunt. He was given £500 before being deported. Wealden District Councillor Andrew Wilson told the official he was ‘appalled’ at the plans to use the army camp, adding that the ‘Home Office has failed the community’. He said: ‘You have put us at risk and I am appalled. ‘I want your assurance that you’ll take personal responsibility for anything that happens in this town as a result of what you’re doing.’ One resident asked the Home Office official what he would do in their circumstances. Mr Larter said: ‘I would be holding someone in my seat to account to make sure that what they were doing was lawful, appropriate and I would be sitting alongside you, I’m sure.’ On Sunday the town held a protest against the plans, ahead of Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood’s announcement to shake-up rules for legal migration. Campaigners still believe they can stop the plan and are raising money for a legal challenge. Yesterday, guards with dogs were seen patrolling the site, where a secondary security fence has been erected alongside a series of residential huts. The full security team at the camp is expected to be in place with the next week in preparation for the arrival of the first group of asylum seekers. Locals are concerned about increased pressure on already inadequate public services and the impact the Home Office plan will have on house prices. The Home Office said most primary healthcare will be delivered in the camp although the asylum seekers will be registered with local GPs. Responding to health and safety concerns, the Home Office said they are obliged to ensure all systems at the site were safe, legal and compliant.

US and Russia Propose Peace Deal for Ukraine with Significant Compromises from Kyiv

The United States and Russia have developed a strategy aimed at ceasing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, which would involve significant compromises from Kyiv. While the full extent of Ukraine’s concessions remains unclear, sources indicate they align with demands Russia has consistently voiced since its 2022 invasion, as reported by The Associated Press, citing an insider familiar with the discussions. A key element of the plan would be the cessation of Russian military offensives. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff has been discreetly crafting this proposal for a month, engaging with both Ukrainian and Russian representatives to forge terms acceptable to both parties, according to a senior U.S. official who spoke to Fox News Digital on the condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the situation. The insider revealed that President Donald Trump has been briefed on the plan and has expressed his support. It was emphasized that concessions are expected from both Ukraine and Russia, not solely from Kyiv. “President Trump has been clear since day one that he wants the war between Russia Ukraine to end, and he has grown frustrated with both sides for their refusal to commit to a peace agreement. Nevertheless, the President and his team never gives up, and the United States has been working on a detailed and acceptable plan for both sides to stop the killing and create a durable, lasting peace.” said White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt. Under the terms of the proposal, which could still be changed, Ukraine would cede territory to Russia and abandon certain weaponry, according to the person who had been briefed on the contours of the plan. It would also include the rolling back of some U.S. military assistance. Russia would take control of the entire eastern Donbas region. Russian President Vladimir Putin has listed the capture of the Donbas as the key goal of the invasion. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly ruled out ceding territory to Russia. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said officials will “continue to develop a list of potential ideas” for ending the war based on input from both sides. “Ending a complex and deadly war such as the one in Ukraine requires an extensive exchange of serious and realistic ideas,” he wrote on X late Wednesday. “And achieving a durable peace will require both sides to agree to difficult but necessary concessions.” On Thursday, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that “there are no consultations per se currently underway” with the U.S. on ending the war in Ukraine. “There are certainly contacts, but processes that could be called consultations are not underway,” he told reporters. Fox News Digital has reached out to the White House.

Legendary Italian Singer Ornella Vanoni Passes Away at 91, Leaving a 70-Year Legacy in Music

NICOSIA – Ornella Vanoni, the cherished artist renowned for her seven-decade career in music with global hits like “Senza Fine” and “L’appuntamento,” has passed away at the age of 91. On Saturday, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni took to X to convey her profound grief over Vanoni’s passing, praising her “distinctive voice” that has profoundly shaped Italian culture across generations. Meloni remarked, “Italy bids farewell to a singular artist, leaving behind an unparalleled artistic legacy.” According to the Italian newspaper La Stampa, Vanoni succumbed to cardiac arrest at her residence in Milan. Throughout her illustrious career, Vanoni released over 100 albums, amassing sales exceeding 55 million copies. This monumental success earned her the affectionate title “The Lady of Italian Song,” as reported by LaPresse newspaper. Born in Milan in 1937, Vanoni initially pursued a passion for theater, which led her to grace the Broadway stage in 1964. However, her deep love for music, coupled with a “highly personal and sophisticated performing style,” as described by LaPresse, spurred her to explore a diverse range of genres from jazz to pop, collaborating with significant songwriters both in Italy and internationally. Vanoni’s artistic and romantic partnership with the celebrated Genovese singer-songwriter Gino Paoli resulted in the celebrated track “Senza Fine” (Without End), propelling her to international fame in 1961. Her later collaborations spanned a range of artistic talent including Gil Evans, Herbie Hancock and George Benson, according to Italy’s ANSA news agency. Vanoni excelled in numerous prestigious music festival awards in Italy, including the country’s most popular Sanremo Music Festival in which she participated eight times, earning second place in 1968 with the song “Casa Bianca.” Her talent extended into songwriting which was recognized when she twice won the prestigious Tenco Award — the only Italian singer to be awarded the prize as a songwriter and the only woman to have won it twice. ANSA said Vanoni was much sought-after as a guest on television programs in her later years because of her unpredictable nature, the vast wealth of anecdotes she shared and her “complete indifference to political correctness.”

Tragic Obsession: The Chilling Story of a Cheerleader’s Death on a Cruise Ship

Authorities are investigating a disturbing case involving a 16-year-old boy, who is suspected of being involved in the death of his stepsister, Anna Kepner. Reports suggest that the teenager had an unusual fixation on Anna. As previously covered by CrimeOnline, Anna’s lifeless body was found by a cabin steward around 11 a.m. on the Carnival Horizon cruise ship. The discovery prompted an unscheduled stop at Port Miami on November 8 for further investigation. According to the Miami-Dade County Medical Examiner, Anna’s death occurred on November 7 while the vessel was near the northwest coast of Cuba. Inside Edition has revealed insights from Steve Westin, who is the father of Anna’s former boyfriend. Westin alleged that the young suspect harbored an intense infatuation with Anna to an unsettling degree. Westin shared that his son had informed him about the stepbrother’s persistent attempts to pursue Anna, which were reportedly accompanied by the alarming detail that he regularly carried a knife. “She was scared of him because he always carried around a big knife,” Westin remarked, emphasizing the fear Anna felt towards her stepbrother. During a FaceTime call, Anna’s ex, Joshua, reportedly saw the stepbrother enter her room and get on top of her. FOX News Digital reports that Joshua said the incident happened at around 3 a.m., after Anna had fallen asleep while on the call. “When I was on FaceTime with her, and she was lying down, and her brother tried to go on top of her,” the former boyfriend said at Anna’s celebration of life gathering in Titusville, according to Daily Mail. “Anna was laying down and he walked in there and tried to get on top of her, but he got caught by me in the process of it. “I was like, ‘What the hell are you doing in her room?’ Then he got scared and ran away. And I heard his footsteps running through the house because he got caught.” Joshua reportedly said that Anna felt uncomfortable around her stepbrother. “She was too scared to tell anybody. Because that one time that he said that if she said anything about getting on top of her he’d do something to her. “She told me that she was uncomfortable with them [his step relatives] being at the house because she didn’t fully know who they were.” Joshua reportedly added that Anna’s father had only met the suspect’s mother, Shauntel Hudson, “not even like a year ago,” and that Hudson had been “controlling over her.” During an emergency custody hearing initiated by the stepbrother’s father, Thomas Hudson, attorney Scott Smith disclosed that the 16-year-old had access to alcohol on the cruise. “It’s our understanding that, because the cruise was in international waters… the 16-year-old was allowed to drink,” said Smith, according to Brevard County court filings. “The teenagers were given their own room in which to stay. Just a lot of circumstances that showed that the mother in this case was not exercising appropriate supervision over this child or the other child involved.” Anna’s stepmother, Shauntel Kepner, denied the claims when responding to Hudson, who is seeking emergency custody of their 9-year-old daughter. Anna, along with her 14-year-old brother, shared a cabin with the stepbrother. Her father, stepmother, and other children were also aboard the ship when her death occurred. The stepbrother, as CrimeOnline reported, was briefly hospitalized after the cruise for an undisclosed reason. Brevard County Circuit Court Judge Michelle Pruitt Studstill set a 4-hour hearing on December 5 to discuss custody arrangements. Check back for updates. [Feature Photo: Anna Kepner/Instagram]

Mastering the Haka: Unforgettable Responses That Challenged New Zealand’s Ritual

England’s rugby squad, with their newest sensation Henry Pollock, drew applause for their reaction to New Zealand’s iconic Haka last weekend before securing a victory against the All Blacks at Twickenham. Steve Borthwick’s team had deliberated in the lead-up to the match about how to approach the Haka, a traditional dance intended to challenge opponents before the game begins. In a strategic display, the English players formed a horseshoe or V-shape as they faced the daunting war dance, with Jamie George being credited for orchestrating this impressive response. Sir Clive Woodward, a respected columnist for Daily Mail Sport and England’s coach during their 2003 World Cup triumph, hailed the team’s actions as ‘brilliant rugby theatre.’ Backing up their pre-game stance, England made a remarkable comeback from a 12-0 deficit to clinch a 33-19 victory. This win marked their first home success against the All Blacks since 2012 and their first win over them anywhere since 2019. As Wales prepares to confront the Haka and the formidable New Zealand team this Saturday, Daily Mail Sport reflects on some of the most memorable and occasionally controversial responses to this pre-match spectacle. Pollock licks his lips – 2025 Starting with the most recent, England’s response to New Zealand last week at Twickenham with Pollock’s actions in particular generating headlines. Pollock divided fans by pulling a defiant face and licking his lips, with the 20-year-old also seen smirking at the All Blacks. Hooker Jamie George explained England’s thought process post-match, while admitting there was some reluctance over Pollock’s positioning in their horseshoe formation. ‘The theory was the oldest would be on one side and the youngest would be on the other. So, I was on one side and Henry was on the other,’ said hooker George. ‘We were quite reluctant to give it to Henry because we weren’t sure what he was going to get up to with Maro (Itoje) in the middle of the V. We wanted to replicate 2019. ‘I felt like starting in a flat line and then heading into the V would be pretty cool. A response like that is great but then backing it up with the performance we did was the most important thing.’ While some fans praised Pollock for rising to the occasion, others had claimed his response had been ‘arrogant’. Former New Zealand scrum half Justin Marshall this week praised England’s response, but instead took aim at fans singing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot as they attempted to drown out the noise from the Haka. ‘I just don’t feel that it’s respectful and I feel that it actually negated England’s response to the haka, which I thought was awesome,’ Marshall said earlier this week. ‘The way that they formed the shape that they did, they advanced forward. They actually respected and responded to the Haka in their manner, but the reverberations of ‘Swing Low’ being sung around the stadium, you couldn’t hear the Haka. ‘I felt that England’s response was basically affected by the crowd. Ireland break the tradition ‘I always said that we won the dance but lost the match,’ former Ireland captain Willie Anderson said when reflecting on his team’s famous response in 1989. Weeks after Munster players linked arms when facing the Haka, Ireland’s national team took it further at Lansdowne Road. Led by Anderson, the Ireland team linked arms and edged their way towards the All Blacks during the ritual. Anderson would ultimately end up face to face with New Zealand captain Buck Shelford, who was widely credited with revitalising the use of the Haka before matches. ‘In fairness it was Jimmy Davidson’s idea and I suppose he got a few idiotic lieutenants to carry it out,’ Anderson later told the Irish Times. ‘The atmosphere was, if you could have bottled it, you would have made a fortune.’ Anderson explained part of the motivation was to get the crowd behind the team, rather than have them cheering on New Zealand’s Haka. ‘We were really inspired, and played way above ourselves,’ Anderson told the BBC. ‘Okay they won well in the end, but I still feel it was worth it’. New Zealand ultimately eased to a 23-6 victory with Ireland and Anderson facing criticism for their actions, only to be defend by Shelford. ‘The Haka is a challenge, and they accepted it. It was as simple as that,’ said Shelford. I certainly did not mind. I suppose it did rile our boys. They played well that day.’ Chabal’s ‘scary response’ World Rugby has dubbed Sebastien Chabal’s response to the Haka as ‘The Scariest Haka Response Ever!’ on the governing body’s own YouTube channel. The French team had opted to line up on the halfway line to face the challenge ahead of their quarter-final at the 2007 Rugby World Cup in Cardiff. New Zealand players approached the French team – who had worn red, white and blue shirts to form a Tricolore – with little separating the two teams when the Haka ended. As players went face-to-face Chabal, who was nicknamed ‘The Caveman’ during his career, took it upon himself to stare down one member of the New Zealand team. ‘It was our playmakers and the captain who had met the day before or two days before, but they hadn’t told us anything about it. They didn’t want it to disrupt our preparation,’ Chabal admitted. ‘The vast majority of us found out about it five minutes before going onto the pitch. We were getting our jerseys thrown at us, in any case, we no longer had time to think. ‘You stand there like that and we’ll face the haka to show them that even if they’re the favorites, they’ll have to go through us to win. On his memorable stare down, Chabal added: ‘We had not prepared to react to the haka in that way but just before going out on to the pitch they told us to act like it was a war, to show them that we were ready for a good fight.’ France would go on to earn a 20-18 victory. France produced another memorable response by linking arms and walking towards the All Blacks at Eden Park before the 2011 World Cup final. World Rugby has since introduced rules that both teams must remain inside their own halves during the Haka. Gatland’s history lesson leads to stand off When Warren Gatland was preparing to lead Wales against his home nation New Zealand in 2008, he called a team meeting to discuss their response to the haka. According to Wales captain Ryan Jones, Gatland questioned the squad on their knowledge of the history of the Haka, which led to the squad devising their response. ‘We had pretty limited knowledge, although we understood it was a challenge,’ Jones told Wales Online. ‘But Warren asked if anyone knew the significance. ‘He also asked us whether we realised the haka was only over when the opposition walked away and that was the All Blacks’ cue to leave. ‘I think it was Martyn Williams who asked what would happen if nobody turned away. There was a sort of shrug of the shoulders. We thought this had never been done before. ‘There was a unanimous call to adopt this policy and that was pretty much it.’ The All Blacks would ultimately perform the Haka as usual prior to the match at the Millennium Stadium, with the Welsh team observing it respectfully until its apparent conclusion. What followed was the Welsh team remaining still and facing down the All Blacks, with both teams refusing to budge for over a minute. ‘The referee today is Jonathan Kaplan and his first job today is to just calm things down after the haka,’ commentator Eddie Butler said on the BBC. ‘I don’t know whether you can sense it, but the crowd are all part of this. I think this is a challenge accepted.’ Co-commentator Brian Moore added: ‘Isn’t that fantastic, a statement made by Wales and good luck to them, but now they have to back it up with action.’ Piri Weepu, who led the Haka, admitted New Zealand had been caught by surprise by Wales response.’ ‘We stood there waiting for them to walk off and they did the same,’ Weepu later reflected. We ended up having a Mexican stand-off. We weren’t going to give an inch and neither were the Welsh.’ New Zealand would ultimately earn a 29-9 victory, with Wales suffering a 26th loss since their last win over the All Blacks in 1953. England fined for response before World Cup semi England broke World Rugby rules with their response ahead of their World Cup semi-final in 2019 after crossing the halfway line. England contravened those regulations, and instead advanced towards the All Blacks in a V formation. Six players – Joe Marler, Billy Vunipola, Mark Wilson, Elliot Daly, Luke Cowan-Dickie and Ben Youngs – appeared to stand in the All Blacks half. Marler was the closest to the Kiwis as he stared down the Haka, while Owen Farrell was caught on camera smirking at the New Zealand haka ahead of the semi-final. Referee Nigel Owens told England to move back and they were later hit with a £2,000 fine for breaching tournament rules ‘relating to cultural challenges’, although they did win the game 19-7. And there were no Kiwi complaints. In fact, the then head coach, Steve Hansen, said afterwards: ‘The Haka is a challenge and it requires a response. I thought it was brilliant.’ Marler caused controversy last year when he labelled the Haka as ‘ridiculous’ and called for it to be ‘binned’. This infuriated the public and several politicians in New Zealand, with Marler’s ‘lack of appreciation for tradition’ slammed, while another figure accused him of having a low IQ. Marler subsequently deleted his X account, before soon resurfacing on the platform – and he then later rowed back on his comments and expressed regret. ‘Hey rugby fans,’ he posted on X at the time. Just wanted to jump on here and say sorry to any New Zealand fans I upset with my poorly articulated tweet earlier in the week. ‘I meant no malice in asking for it (the haka) to be binned, just want to see the restrictions lifted to allow for a response without sanction. My flippant attempt at sparking a debate around it was s***house and I should have done better at explaining things. ‘I’m grateful for the education received on how important the Haka is to the New Zealand culture and hope others have a better understanding too.’ Campese ignores the Haka before downing All Blacks Australia legend David Campese produced one of the most famous responses when he opted to ignore the Haka entirely. While his team-mates lined up on the halfway line ahead of the 1991 World Cup semi-final in Dublin, Campese was warming up and practicing his kicking. ‘I’m often asked why I warmed up on my own while New Zealand performed the haka before the semi,’ Campese later reflected. ‘I wasn’t disrespecting it, I actually believe in the haka, I think it’s fantastic and I’ve come up against it 29 times. ‘But ahead of the game the coach said that whatever we did was up to us. I was quite happy to go and kick the ball, that was how I did it, and it worked.’ Campese would go on to produce one of the standout performances of his career in a match-winning display. He scored a stunning try in the sixth minute of the semi-final, before claiming a kick forward, twisting past two All Black stars and producing a pass over his right shoulder for Tim Horan to run in their second. Australia earned a 16-6 win over their rivals and went on to beat England 12-6 in the final. Cockerill confronts the Haka ‘What the **** have you done?’ England captain Martin Johnson told Richard Cockerill after the Haka in 1997. The hooker, who was making his first start for England, advanced forward as New Zealand began the Haka. Cockerill would ultimately end up face to face with his opposite number Norm Hewitt, with the pair squaring up to each other on the Old Trafford pitch. ‘Firstly, Clive [Woodward] said to find your opposite number and stand opposite him; what I didn’t understand was that he meant from about 20 metres away. I took him at his word,’ Cockerill told the Telegraph in 2022. ‘I’m not sure I was the most skilful of players, but I was very competitive and very tenacious and was always generally up for the battle. ‘It was just my way of doing it in an England shirt. It wasn’t really for effect, at the time, it’s what I meant. ‘I don’t regret it. It’s a challenge that was laid down, it’s part of the game.’ England were beaten 25-8 by the All Blacks. Cockerill has since offered his opinion to England players on their response having been forwards coach under Eddie Jones between 2021 to 2023.

Expert Advice: Dr. Ellie Offers Solutions for Persistent Mouth Ulcers

I’m frequently plagued by mouth ulcers. What can I do to eliminate them swiftly and prevent their recurrence? Dr. Ellie advises: Sadly, there isn’t a rapid cure for mouth ulcers, but you can take measures to minimize the likelihood of them returning. Mouth ulcers occur as small lesions on the inner lips, cheeks, or tongue, resulting from breaks in the mouth’s lining. If a mouth ulcer persists for more than three weeks, it’s crucial to consult a doctor. Although uncommon, it could be indicative of oral cancer or possibly a sign of Crohn’s disease, a serious inflammatory bowel condition. In most cases, mouth ulcers don’t need medical intervention as they tend to heal on their own over time. While Bonjela, a well-known treatment, can help alleviate the discomfort, it does not actually speed up the healing of the ulcers. Some patients may benefit from an antibacterial mouthwash, such as chlorhexidine, to keep the ulcer clean and avoid a painful infection. But, again, this doesn’t speed up the healing. Crucially, though, there are ways to prevent ulcers coming back. Many patients find that taking a vitamin B12 supplement reduces the risk of recurrence. Certain foods, such as coffee, chocolate and peanuts, are thought to trigger ulcers. One of the biggest risk factors is a chemical found in many toothpastes called sodium lauryl sulfate, or SLS. But studies show it can also irritate the mouth, leading to ulcers. The good news is that there are SLS-free toothpastes available. At 84, I recently developed a large bulge just above my pelvis. It’s not painful and the only other symptom I have is an increased need to go to the toilet. My GP has requested a scan, but apparently I’ll have to wait six weeks. Should I be worried? Dr Ellie responds: Any new lump that appears in someone aged over 80 should be urgently scanned and assessed. Arguably, the most common lump that appears near the pelvis would be a hernia. This is where internal organs push through a hole in overlying muscles, creating a lump. Sometimes they hurt, but not always. The main worry is that the bulge may contain internal parts of crucial organs, such as the bowels. This can cause the organ to be blocked, stopping it from functioning properly, which can have dangerous consequences. If someone has a lump like this and their toilet habits have changed, that might suggest the bowels are affected. It is possible that a new lump could be caused by swollen glands or lymph nodes in the groin. Lymph nodes are small bean-shaped glands which help the body to filter out harmful substances like bacteria or viruses. A swollen lymph node might be due to an infection. But it could also be a sign of cancer. That is why it is crucial that patients with a new lump get scanned, so the risk of a deadly tumour can be ruled out. A new large lump in an 84-year-old should meet the criteria for an urgent NHS scan. If a patient with a new lump also has a change in bowel habits, then this symptom should be mentioned to the GP. I have diverticulitis and have been in constant pain for two decades. The only relief I get is from cortisone injections but the effect only lasts for a few months. What else can I do? Dr Ellie responds: Patients with chronic pain may benefit from daily tablets that GPs can prescribe. Diverticulitis is an agonising condition where small pockets form in the walls of the intestine. This causes inflammation and, often, infections. Symptoms include tummy pain, constipation, diarrhoea and bloating. Unfortunately, diverticulitis cannot be cured. Instead, patients are often given laxatives to help with bowel movement issues and medicines which help with stomach cramps, called antispasmodics. Lifestyle changes, including eating a balanced diet rich in fruit, vegetables and whole grains, as well as boosting fibre intake, avoiding smoking and maintaining a healthy weight, have all been shown to help. Diverticulitis patients will generally take anti-inflammatory tablets such as ibuprofen and naproxen. For those in severe agony, nerve pain tablets may help. These drugs, which include amitriptyline, nortriptyline and pregabalin, work by dampening pain receptors in the body. Many patients also report that talking therapy and regular exercise help to relieve some of the pain of diverticulitis. If shingles jab stops Alzheimer’s, would you pay £500 for it? I am fascinated by growing research that suggests the shingles vaccine can help to prevent dementia. Some studies have shown the Shingrix jab, which is available on the NHS, can cut the risk of the deadly disease by as much as 20 per cent. More research is obviously needed, but it would appear that some people are already getting injected to protect their brain health. One example is Lord James Bethell, 58, a former Conservative health minister during the Covid-19 pandemic. Last week he posted on social media that he paid £500 for the Shingrix vaccine for the express purpose of lowering his dementia risk. It raises a big question: Should the NHS be offering the vaccine for free to young patients to prevent dementia? Have you received the shingles jab in order to reduce your dementia risk? Write and let me know. Why are so many doctors still missing women’s heart attacks Seven years ago I spoke at Parliament’s first-ever women’s health conference. One of the biggest issues that cropped up was the NHS’s poor record when it came to spotting heart disease in women. Heart attacks, in particular, are often viewed as a men’s issue. But the deadly condition affects 35,000 British women every year. It is thought to become much more likely after the menopause, too. Despite this, as we discussed at the 2018 conference, heart attacks are often missed in women as doctors don’t expect them to be affected. And, when they are spotted, women are less likely to be offered crucial treatments. Unfortunately, today, it feels like little has changed since that landmark event. Women who suffer heart attacks are still often poorly served by the NHS. It is about time the Government took notice of this issue and acted. Are you a woman who has suffered a heart attack? Did the NHS mishandle your treatment? I want to hear from you. Please contact me using the email on the right.

Young Superhero’s Dream Comes True at Chicago’s Griffin Museum: Surprise Trip to Disneyland Unveiled!

CHICAGO (WLS) — A young local boy received a holiday surprise that he will cherish forever at the Griffin Museum of Science and Industry: a trip to Disneyland for him and his family. For 7-year-old Alex Nevarez, it was an unforgettable day filled with joy. ABC7 Chicago is now streaming 24/7. Click here to watch The moment Alex discovered that he and his loved ones would be heading to Disneyland in California, he was overcome with emotion and shed tears of happiness. A devoted Spider-Man enthusiast, Nevarez couldn’t have been more thrilled. The exciting announcement took place in grand style on Friday morning during the “Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing” exhibit at MSI. Adding to the magic, Spider-Man himself sent a personalized video message for Alex. It was quite the invite for Nevarez, who is living with spina bifida. “This journey hasn’t been easy. It’s been very difficult, a lot of appointments, a lot of therapies, a lot of surgeries. And this just gets us away from a little bit of everything that we go through on a day-to-day,” mother Vanessa Nevarez said. Alex Nevarez’s family was in on the surprise trip. “We’ve come so far. I’m so proud,” father Victor Nevarez said. The surprise of a lifetime came about after producers of the Disney Holiday Special learned about how Nevarez’s mother successfully advocated for an all-access playground in the family’s town of north suburban Mundelein. For over 40 years, the TV show has highlighted people making a difference in their communities. “I was amazed by the parents and Alex doing all that they can for him,” said Stephanie Ridenour, a Disney Holiday Special senior producer. Despite his physical challenges, Nevarez is a very active 7-year old who loves playing both wheelchair sports and spending time with his cousins, their dad and his grandmother who are all going on the trip, too. “He’s my hero. He’s my hero. He showed me a lot; he’s been showing me a lot. Nothing is impossible in his world,” uncle Gabriel Nevarez said. Two other families will also be highlighted during the show and gifted travel to a Disney-owned property. Nevarez and his family will travel to the resort in two weeks. The Walt Disney Co. is the parent company of this ABC station.

Ongoing Search for Missing 13-Year-Old Girl from Foster Care: One Month Later

Authorities in Kentucky are intensifying their efforts to locate a 13-year-old girl who has been missing for an entire month. Wynter Wagoner was last seen on October 14 in the vicinity of Orlando, located in Rockcastle County. According to LEX, Wynter was attending an alternative school, having started there just two days before her disappearance. Her aunt shared that Wynter had been experiencing some challenges at school, particularly in the months leading up to her vanishing. The connection between her switch to a new school and her disappearance remains unclear. Investigators have yet to determine if foul play is involved in her case. Reports from WDKY indicate that Wynter had been living in foster care for approximately a year prior to going missing. On October 22, officials from Rockcastle County announced that the FBI has joined the search efforts. Wynter is described as being 5 feet, 1 inch tall and weighing 147 pounds. She has long brown hair, blue eyes, and distinctive piercings in her ears and right nostril. Wagoner was described as standing 5 feet, 1 inch tall, weighing 147 pounds. Tucker Carlson Unveils Shocking Allegations Linking Trump Shooter to Terrorist Networks

Tucker Carlson has once again stirred the political waters with his latest investigation, which has captured the attention of many within the MAGA community. In his recent exposé, Carlson posits that Thomas Crooks, who attempted to assassinate former President Donald Trump, may have ties to a foreign terrorist organization. The former Fox News host and his team have released a detailed 34-minute video scrutinizing the digital footprint of Crooks, the 20-year-old who came perilously close to killing Trump at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, back in July 2024. Crooks’ bullet narrowly missed Trump’s skull, a mere inch away. Despite more than a year passing since this shocking attempt on Trump’s life, the FBI has yet to clearly establish Crooks’ motives or determine whether he acted alone or had accomplices. This lingering ambiguity has left many questions unanswered. Carlson’s investigation sheds light on Crooks’ online activity, particularly his YouTube interactions from 2019 to 2020. These digital breadcrumbs reveal a troubling transformation in Crooks’ beliefs, transitioning from a Trump supporter to someone embracing far-left ideologies. His comments online included alarming calls for assassinations and political violence. One of the most concerning aspects of Carlson’s findings is Crooks’ engagement with a user named ‘Willy_Tepes.’ This user appeared to incite Crooks towards violence, exemplified by a chilling message sent on August 4, 2020: ‘If a gun and a badge is all that is needed, then authority obviously comes from the barrel of a gun. We have more guns than they do ;)’ He wrote to Crooks on August 4, 2020, ‘If a gun and a badge is all that is needed, then authority obviously comes from the barrel of a gun. We have more guns than they do ;)’ ‘There is no way we can avoid a war at this point, so you just better get used to the idea,’ he added. Carlson claims that Tepes’s name is listed on a foreign Antifa website connecting him to the Nordic Resistance Movement – a neo-Nazi group based in Scandinavia which has been designated a terrorist organization by the State Department. ‘The FBI hasn’t made any mention of him in public, although they certainly know he exists. Just days after the shooting, somebody screenshotted Tepes’ YouTube account page despite the fact that he has very few followers,’ Carlson said. ‘To the extent that he can be traced online now, you can find his username being used on a foreign Antifa website, those sites link him to the Nordic Resistance Movement … that’s all we know.’ Tepes wrote in another reply to Crooks about government efforts to seize guns from citizens. ‘The more guns that are out there, the less likely a gun confiscation will be possible. Nope, guns do not guarantee a victory anymore than jet fighters, tanks and drones do. It is the fighting spirit and brains that wins.’ ‘We have nothing to lose and everything to win…..and the alternative, a global police state, is unacceptable. Nothing in life is simple but that is no argument against doing it :)’ Following Tepes’ online interactions with Crooks, the Trump shooter’s YouTube commenting ends. Moreover, Crooks’ political views seemingly shifted dramatically towards left-wing ideology around early 2020. In January 2020, Crooks reportedly attacked Trump for his ‘stupidity’ in one of his YouTube comments and mocked Trump supporters for sounding like a ‘cult.’ Crooks then reportedly called for anti-Trump supporters to conduct ‘terrorism-style attacks’ against the US government. The future assassin outlined ways to ‘sneak a bomb’ into a government building and ‘set it off before anyone sees you,’ according to Carlson. ‘[In my opinion] the only way to fight the [government] is with terrorism style attacks, sneak a bomb into an essential building [and] set it off before anyone sees you, track down and important people/politicians/military leaders etc and try to assassinate them. Any sort of head to head fight is suicide and ambush/surprise attacks likely aren’t going to end well,’ Crooks allegedly wrote on YouTube. MAGA influencers and lawmakers reacted with shock to Carlson’ latest reporting and demanded more transparency from Kash Patel’s FBI regarding Crooks. Tennessee Republican Rep. Tim Burchett claimed that Crooks was groomed by the CIA via MKUltra-style mind control programs during an interview reacting to Carlson’s latest report. ‘They programmed this kid. You got a kid who’s got access to guns or has some simple knowledge of a firearm, he was programmed,’ Burchett told conservative influencer Benny Johnson. ‘The facts have been buried or burned or whoever knew is either sitting on a beach somewhere and, uh, enjoying a fruity drink or they’re dead.’ ‘When the CIA says, ‘We don’t have this thing,’ and then their asses are brought into a court of law and they say, ‘Well, we have it, but we don’t use it anymore.’ Apparently, somebody’s using it.’ ‘I’ve said that all along,’ Burchett added. ‘I’ve said that. Look at the history. Look at where we’re at in this country, the Deep State. It’s disgusting. Trump’s right. They’re not after, they’re not after him. They’re after us. He’s just standing in the way.’ Kash Patel, meanwhile, issued a statement indirectly responding to Carlson’s reporting by claiming the Bureau collected an extensive amount of data from Crooks. Patel does not provide any specific details into the data uncovered from the FBI investigation, nor his motive for trying to kill Trump. Furthermore, the FBI director continues to maintain that Crooks had limited online use. ‘The investigation, conducted by over 480 FBI employees, revealed Crooks had limited online and in person interactions, planned and conducted the attack alone, and did not leak or share his intent to engage in the attack with anyone,’ Patel wrote.

Authorities Report Man’s Alleged Involvement in Girlfriend’s Fatality

An Indiana man faces serious charges after allegedly providing his girlfriend with a lethal dose of fentanyl, resulting in her death. Jeremy Duvall, aged 45, has been formally charged with dealing a controlled substance leading to death, as per court documents accessed by Law&Crime. Although the charge was recently filed, the tragic incident reportedly took place earlier this summer. The events unfolded on June 27 in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where Duvall and his 29-year-old girlfriend, Keana Swafford, were staying at a residence. According to court documents, Duvall claimed he saw Swafford standing by a bed smoking fentanyl before he fell asleep. Upon waking, he discovered her unresponsive, lying face down on the floor, local ABC and NBC affiliate WPTA reported. Authorities suspect that Duvall was involved in drug dealing at the time. He hesitated before calling 911 for help. By the time emergency services arrived, Duvall had already left the scene. Despite their efforts, first responders were unable to revive Swafford, and she was declared dead at the location. The investigation led law enforcement to secure a warrant to search Duvall’s phone, revealing messages that offered insight into his feelings about the incident. One message reportedly read, “Trust me there hasn’t been a minute that passed where I haven’t thought about what could have been done differently. I would give my life for hers, and she knows that. God knows that, and God and [Swafford] know what happened; that’s all that matters. I don’t care what anyone has to say or feels about it,” according to a report by the Fort Wayne-based outlet. Law enforcement officers obtained a warrant for the suspect’s phone, and on it, they found messages that they believed illustrated his state of mind about his girlfriend’s death. “Trust me there hasn’t been a minute that past where I haven’t thought about what could have been done differently,” one message read, per the Fort Wayne-based outlet. “I would give my life for hers and she knows that God knows that and God and [Swafford] knows what happened that’s all that matters I don’t care what anyone has to say or feels about it.” In another message, Duvall admitted to giving his girlfriend the fentanyl, according to the court documents. Duvall was arrested a month later for felony narcotics possession, and on the way to the jail, he allegedly made an incriminating statement: “It is kinda like my fault.” He has reportedly remained in jail since. Court records show that the defendant had an initial hearing for his dealing charge on Friday. He will appear in court again on Nov. 26. Swafford, who had three children, is remembered for being “bright, bold, and fierce in her love for those around her,” according to her obituary, which also mentions Duvall.

Senator Cory Booker Addresses Questions on Chuck Schumer’s Future with Confidence

Senator Cory Booker of New Jersey has recently brought to light a topic that many Democrats have been quietly contemplating: the future of Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from New York. In the aftermath of what has been termed the “Schumer Shutdown,” Booker candidly addressed the need for change within the Democratic Party, something others have been hesitant to discuss openly. In an interview with Fox News, Booker was questioned about his remarks following the House’s approval of an amended continuing resolution, which facilitated the end of the government shutdown. In his comments, Booker emphasized that the Democratic Party is in need of transformation and should look to a new generation of leaders to challenge then-President Donald Trump. When pressed by the reporter on whether his statements were specifically aimed at Schumer, and if he believed the veteran senator was still capable of fulfilling his role, Booker responded thoughtfully. “Chuck Schumer’s generation, along with those of Nancy Pelosi and John Lewis, have achieved much to be proud of,” Booker acknowledged. “However, it is time for fresh leadership to emerge.” This sentiment reflects a growing call within the party for rejuvenation, as many Democrats consider how to best position themselves against Republican leadership and policies. “Chuck Schumer’s generation, Nancy Pelosi’s generation, John Lewis’s generation. They have so much to be proud of,” Booker said. “It is time, though, for new leadership.” Boom, there it is. We will at least give credit to the New Jersey senator who showed more courage when asked about Schumer’s future, more so than the likes of New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-14), who refused to call him out when asked if Schumer should stay as minority leader, my RedState colleague Nick Arama reported. 🚨They asked AOC if she still wants to get rid of Chuck Schumer. “Should Chuck Schumer stay as minority leader?” Her answer suggests she wants to take down MORE than just Chuck Schumer. “This problem is bigger than one person…” pic.twitter.com/VcSZPeNxza — Townhall.com (@townhallcom) November 12, 2025 “Should Schumer stay as minority leader?” the reporter asked. “I think what is so important for folks to understand is that this problem is bigger than one person,” AOC replied. “And it actually is bigger than the minority leader in the Senate…A leader is a reflection of the party and Senate Democrats have selected their leadership to represent them.” On Friday, Massachusetts Representative Seth Moulton (D-6) said Schumer has proven to be ineffective. One, Schumer has proven to all of us that he can’t keep the team together,” Moulton said. “But two, Schumer has also proven to Trump that his strong-arm tactics work. And so until Trump sees a different opponent, he’s going to just assume this playbook for the next time a negotiation like this comes up.” Chuck Schumer needs to be replaced as the party’s Senate leader, @RepMoulton tells our @DashaBurns on #theconversation. CNN’s poll shows Chuck Schumer’s popularity is at a RECORD LOW for Democrat Senate leaders since 1985, and he’s trailing AOC by DOUBLE DIGITS in a potential primary. One by one, Dems are starting to say it rather than obfuscating. Schumer’s days are done. My RedState colleague Sister Toldjah reported that the writing was on the wall for Chuck, and things were only going to get worse now that the shutdown is over. As RedState readers will recall, there were calls in early 2025 for a 2028 primary challenge to Schumer, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (NY-14) being floated as a formidable contender. Those calls got louder when Schumer caved on the continuing resolution in March, with things getting so bad for Schumer that he had to postpone book tour dates due to alleged security threats. While AOC has dodged questions about a Schumer challenge, she hasn’t expressly stated that she’s ruled one out, either. And after eight Democrats on the Senate side broke ranks to begin the process of ending the Schumer Shutdown, one has to think AOC is giving the idea even more consideration. Reckless Escape: Father Attempts to Evade Police by Leaping from Moving Vehicle

A chaotic police pursuit in Florida took a dramatic turn when a father leaped from his moving SUV, leaving his wife and three frightened children inside as officers closed in on November 10. This startling incident occurred on Highway 79 in Washington County, situated in northwest Florida. The sequence of events was set in motion when a young child clandestinely dialed 911, reporting a domestic dispute between her parents occurring inside the vehicle. The call, however, was abruptly cut off before authorities could obtain further details. Shortly thereafter, deputies identified an SUV that matched the description provided by the child. Despite attempts to stop the vehicle, the driver, 46-year-old Albert Dale Searcy, refused to pull over. In a shocking moment, officers watched as Searcy swung open the SUV’s door and hurled himself onto the road, abandoning his family as the vehicle continued down the highway without him at the wheel. Searcy’s daring escape resulted in him hitting the pavement face-first, leaving him with a face marked by bloodied scratches, as revealed in his mugshot. Searcy hit the road face-first, and his mugshot showed the father with bloodied scratches across his head. Inside the SUV, Searcy’s wife Heather sprang into action. Authorities say she launched herself over the center console and seized the wheel, somehow managing to bring the vehicle to a safe stop while their three children remained strapped in the back. A responding deputy immediately detained Searcy, who deputies said was stunned, scraped, and covered in road rash, but still able to stand. His booking photo shows the extent of his injuries, although deputies noted he was not seriously hurt. The family, however, showed signs of a violent struggle. Deputies reported that Heather had ‘apparent injuries to her face’ consistent with a physical altercation. She told investigators she had repeatedly begged her husband to pull over and let her and the children out, a request he allegedly ignored again and again. She also said that when Albert realized their daughter had secretly called 911, he ‘struck the child and took the phone away.’ According to Heather’s account, the family had only recently returned to Washington County after a brief stay and were headed back to Louisiana when the fight broke out inside the vehicle. Emergency medical services evaluated all five family members at the scene. Heather and the children were cleared. Albert was treated for abrasions but required no further medical care. He was then taken to the Washington County Jail, where he remains in custody and is facing a barrage of charges including tampering with or harassing a witness, domestic violence battery, fleeing or attempting to elude a law enforcement officer, child abuse and driving while license suspended. Investigators made clear just how close the family came to catastrophe. Had Heather not reacted instantly, climbing into the driver’s seat as the SUV continued to glide uncontrolled, the outcome could have been fatal. Instead, the mother’s quick reflexes prevented what deputies described as a potentially deadly collision. Her decisive action kept her children alive as their father landed on the asphalt in an alleged attempt to avoid arrest. The sheriff’s office released Searcy’s mugshot showing his face bloodied after being bounced along the road.

USDA Report Challenges Trump’s Claims on China’s Soybean Purchase Commitments

OMAHA, Neb. – Recently unveiled data from the U.S. Department of Agriculture is casting doubt on China’s commitment to purchasing substantial amounts of American soybeans, a promise highly publicized by the Trump administration following a pivotal meeting between President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping. The USDA’s report, released post-government shutdown, indicates only two confirmed Chinese purchases of U.S. soybeans since the summit in South Korea, amounting to 332,000 metric tons. This figure falls significantly short of the 12 million metric tons that Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins claimed China had pledged to buy by January. Furthermore, it pales in comparison to the 25 million metric tons anticipated annually over the next three years. U.S. farmers, who have long relied on China as their top customer, were hopeful for renewed trade. However, Tanner Ehmke, CoBank’s chief economist for grains and oilseeds, notes that China currently has little motivation to purchase American soybeans. This is due to their ample supply sourced from Brazil and other South American nations this year, coupled with ongoing tariffs that make U.S. soybeans pricier than their Brazilian counterparts. “We remain far from meeting the expectations set by the U.S. regarding the agreement’s potential,” Ehmke remarked. While Beijing has not confirmed any specific soybean purchase agreement, they have acknowledged reaching a “consensus” on enhancing trade in agricultural products. Ehmke suggests that even if China did agree to buy American soybeans, it might have been conditional on favorable pricing. The White House has yet to comment on the apparent shortfall in Chinese purchases or clarify whether U.S. farmers can still anticipate an assistance package. The Chinese tariff on American beans remains high at about 24%, despite a 10-percentage-point reduction following the summit. Soybean prices fell sharply by 23 cents to $11.24 per bushel Friday. Ehmke said “that’s the market being shocked by the lack of Chinese demand that was confirmed in USDA data today.” Prices are still higher than they were before the agreement when they were selling for $10.60 per bushel, but the price may continue to drop unless there are significant new purchases. Before the trade agreement, Trump had promised to offer farmers a significant aid package to help them survive the trade war with China. That was put on hold during the shutdown, and now it’s not clear whether the administration will offer farmers aid like Trump did in his first administration. American farmers have been through this before after Trump’s first trade war with China. The trade agreement China signed with the United States in 2020 promised massive purchases of U.S. crops. But the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted trade between the two nations just as the agreement went into effect. In 2022, U.S. farm exports to China hit a record, but then fell. Soybean prices are actually still a little higher than they were a year ago even without China’s normal purchases of roughly one-quarter of the U.S. crop. That’s because this year’s soybean crop is a little smaller while domestic demand remained strong with the continued growth in biodiesel production. But farmers are dealing with the soaring cost of fertilizer, seed, equipment and labor this year, and that is hurting their profits. The Kentucky farmer who is president of the American Soybean Association, Caleb Ragland, has said he worries that thousands of farmers could go out of business this year without significant Chinese purchases or government aid. China is the world’s largest buyer of soybeans. China bought more than $12.5 billion worth of the nearly $24.5 billion worth of U.S. soybeans that were exported last year. But China quit buying American soybeans this year after Trump imposed his tariffs and continued to shift more of their purchases over to South America. Even before the trade war, Brazilian beans accounted for more than 70% of China’s imports last year, while the U.S. share fell to 21%, World Bank data shows. AP Writer Didi Tang contributed to this report from Washington.

Shocking Incident: Woman Caught on Video Tossing Dog in Plastic Bag Over Anaheim Veterinary Clinic Fence

ANAHEIM, Calif. — Authorities in Anaheim, California, have launched an investigation after a shocking video surfaced capturing a woman hurling a small dog over a fence. This unsettling event occurred in the early hours of Wednesday. Footage from the University Veterinary Center’s surveillance cameras reveals the dog encased in a plastic bag being flung over the facility’s barrier, landing in the clinic’s backyard. The following morning, the clinic’s veterinarian discovered the dog, who was suffering from serious injuries. “It’s difficult to comprehend why anyone would commit such an act,” expressed Dr. Ash Hakhamian. “Saying the dog was ‘thrown’ doesn’t capture the severity. The animal endured significant mental trauma, which eclipsed even his physical injuries.” Hakhamian was taken aback to find the injured animal behind his clinic, initially puzzled by how the dog had ended up there. “We decided to review the security camera footage, and to our disappointment we found the pet was placed there by being thrown over the fence,” he told ABC . “He face-planted,” Hakhamian added. “That’s what broke his fall, was his face.” In addition to the trauma and severe bruising, Hakhamian says the dog is severely anemic, malnourished and was covered in fleas. “His nails are so long, they have curled and gone back into his paw,” Hakhamian said. “That’s a type of neglect that proceeds this trauma, it proceeds this abuse.” The clinic said that due to the nature of the situation, the Anaheim Police Department and Orange County Animal Care are now involved and that the dog is “receiving around the clock care to ensure he is recovering from both his injuries and ongoing medical needs.” While he’s expected to fully recover, the dog remains in critical condition. After reviewing the surveillance video, the veterinarian’s office thought the woman responsible came from the apartment building across the street. Police confirmed that’s where she was found earlier on Thursday. The Anaheim Police Department said the woman seen in the video has not been arrested, but police are discussing the case with the Orange County District Attorney’s Office to see if it qualifies for criminal charges. Officer Breana Castro with Anaheim police said the woman has spoken with detectives. “Her statement was taken, and it is going to be presented to the district attorney’s office for charges,” Castro said. The dog is not currently available for adoption. “There is going to be a lot of medical care and other things involved before he is going to be made available to the public for adoption and/or foster care,” a statement from the clinic said. The incident remains under investigation.

Invest in Food and Beverage Stocks as the Holiday Season Approaches

In just over a month, families and friends will gather to enjoy their Christmas meals, a time of festive cheer. However, for some, this season also highlights a well-known investment strategy: investing in food and beverage companies as a defensive measure. Despite economic challenges, people still need to eat, and perhaps indulge in a drink or two to keep the spirits high. Recent developments have made this investment approach even more appealing. Sir Dave Lewis, credited with steering Tesco away from a crisis a decade ago, has been appointed as the new leader of Diageo. This £40 billion giant, known for products like Guinness and Johnnie Walker, has been facing troubles. The financial world is optimistic that ‘Drastic Dave,’ as he is famously called, can work his magic in time for future holiday seasons. This could be uplifting news for Diageo’s uneasy shareholders. However, the upcoming Budget in 11 days poses a potential challenge, with rumors suggesting that Chancellor Rachel Reeves might again increase taxes on alcohol. The anticipation surrounding Reeves’ announcement has already led to a slowdown in supermarket sales in the past few weeks. Last year’s Budget, which included hikes in employer National Insurance and other taxes, already hit supermarkets hard. They are hoping for a ‘pro-jobs, pro-growth’ statement this time, one that will benefit the retail sector. Whether the Chancellor will heed this call remains uncertain until the announcement on November 26, keeping speculation alive. But if you are looking for short or long-term diversification, the £76billion UK wine and spirits sector is an inviting prospect – particularly if you are re-positioning your portfolio to gain more exposure to British stocks. The FTSE 100 reached a record 9,808 this week before falling yesterday amid Budget jitters. Yes, apprehension may surround the impact of the Budget, but there still are reasons to be cheerful about UK plc. Food and drink might be seen as a safe haven, but hazards lurk. Sales at private equity-owned Asda dropped by 6 per cent over the past quarter, indicating that discounts alone are no longer sufficient to entice even the cash-strapped. Alexandra Jackson, manager of the Rathbones UK Opportunities fund, says: ‘This is a sector defined by its razor-thin margins, operational complexity, intense competition and volatile consumer trends.’ The latest include the ‘sober curious’ movement among members of Gen Z, the target clientele for Diageo’s Casamigos and other tequilas. But supermarkets are the beneficiaries of another consumer behaviour shift, dubbed ‘staying-in is the new going out’. In response to the expense of restaurant food, households are opting for supermarkets’ premium ready meals. Diageo should be able to supply the accompanying wines. Figures from analytics group NIQ highlight the appetite for premium private label dining. Sales of Marks & Spencer’s ranges are not only bounding ahead in its own stores, but also through its venture with Ocado. To the chagrin of investors, including myself, M&S shares are down this year owing to the cyber attack that paralysed its operations in the spring. Yet analysts rate its shares, which stand at 353.7p, a ‘buy’ based on the view that the British will want to spoil themselves this Christmas – and beyond. Britain’s number one grocer controls 28.3 per cent of the market. The aim is to achieve a 30 per cent share by offering more value to customers who might otherwise abscond to the German discounters Aldi and Lidl, and by appealing to the more affluent through its Finest premium label range. Tesco’s buoyant state contrasts markedly with its predicament in 2014 at the height of the accounting crisis that had engulfed the company. Luckily, Lewis arrived to save the day. Ken Murphy, Lewis’s successor, is also seen as a class act. Jackson says that Murphy’s adroit capital allocation decisions, which reflect ‘a deep understanding of what drives long-term performance’, are the reason why Tesco is the cornerstone of her fund. At 438.4p, Tesco shares are 18.5 per cent higher than at the start of the year, although they are still below the 606p peak in 2007. No analyst forecasts a return to such heights, but they do rate the shares, which offer a 3 per cent dividend yield, a ‘buy’. I took a tiny stake in Tesco in February 2024, when the shares were 285p. I was following my own advice in this column, partly spurred by purchases of pieces of Tesco F&F clothing items that people assumed were designer. I am not selling. SAINSBURY’S Sainsbury’s, which holds second place in the UK supermarket league with 15.3pc share, has long been in Tesco’s shadow. But analysts sense that Sainsbury’s may be stepping more into the limelight following a better-than-expected first-half performance. Sainsbury’s is benefiting from its Nectar loyalty scheme and from staying in is the new going out. Chief executive Simon Roberts says that more customers are sampling its Taste The Difference range. The disposal of its banking operation to NatWest has also boosted the company, and the next sell-off could be Argos, which owns homeware business Habitat. However, Argos is likely to fetch rather less than the £1.1billion Sainsbury’s paid for it in 2016. Most analysts consider Sainsbury’s a ‘hold’ at 322p. The shares could maintain their upward momentum if it enjoys a bumper festive season. Income seekers will like the 6 per cent dividend yield. Shares in Diageo leapt by 8 per cent this week on news of Lewis’s appointment. The heavily indebted group’s many problems include not only Gen Z teetotalism, but a move among all generations to ‘low-or-no’ alcohol. Non-alcoholic Guinness Zero is proving to be a favourite among all age groups. Yet selling Guinness is one option open to Lewis if he agrees with an analysis from the Swiss bank UBS that Diageo could be worth 40 per cent more if broken up. As an investor, I am hoping that Lewis will deploy all his expertise, especially since Diageo’s shares have fallen by 20 per cent since last Christmas to 1793.5p. Among the 20 brokers that follow the stock, six consider Diageo a ‘buy’. The rest contend that the shares are worth holding. The bounce in Diageo shares following Lewis’s appointment suggests the audacious are taking a flutter on such an outcome, which would certainly be an excuse for a toast in Casamigos, Guinness Zero or Smirnoff. With maybe some M&S, Sainsbury’s or Tesco canapes, too.

Dramatic Helicopter Rescue Saves BASE Jumper Stranded on Canyon Cliff

A daring rescue unfolded earlier this week near Moab, Utah, capturing attention on social media as a BASE jumper was saved from a precarious situation in the canyons. The dramatic footage, recorded by Danielle Mick, showcases the intense rescue operation on Wednesday. It reveals rescuers reaching the BASE jumper, who was left dangling with a rainbow parachute caught against the rocky face at Kane Creek. According to Grand County Emergency Services, officers received the call around 1:00 p.m. that afternoon. However, it wasn’t until 3:15 p.m. that they managed to reach the stranded jumper, whose identity remains undisclosed. Following the rescue, the Grand County Sheriff’s Department posted on Facebook, stating that the BASE jumper was “successfully rescued.” They also reported that the individual received “advanced treatment for moderate injuries” before being lifted from the cliff face to a safe zone around 4:00 p.m. In the shared video, a first responder can be seen descending from a helicopter, battling gusty winds to reach the jumper and the flapping parachute. The rescue video, nearly 20 minutes in length, was initially posted on Facebook, offering viewers a real-time glimpse of the high-stakes operation. According to Moab BASE Access, Utah Chapter, a 501(c)3 organization, “BASE jumping on lands managed by the Bureau of Land Management that surround Moab is legal,” and “BASE jumping is all fun and games until you are smashed up on the talus and need rescue and surgery.” Moab BASE Access did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment. Each Utah county’s respective sheriff’s office is responsible for their own search and rescue operations, according to the Utah Search and Rescue Association. “While yesterday’s incident gained public attention because it was visible from town — these types of rescues are exactly what we train for and do on a pretty regular basis,” wrote Grand County EMS on Facebook. “It’s a privilege to serve this community alongside such dedicated professionals, and to bring people home safely.” The Grand County Sheriff’s Department did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for comment.

Judge Accuses CBP Chief of Providing False Testimony Regarding Protester Assault

CHICAGO () In a significant legal decision on Thursday, a Chicago judge issued a preliminary injunction against federal immigration authorities, offering “complete relief” in response to their actions. The ruling also accused Gregory Bovino, the U.S. Border Patrol Commander leading “Operation Midway Blitz,” of providing false testimony. Judge Sara Ellis condemned the federal authorities’ use of force during the operation, which targeted protesters, clergy, and journalists, describing it as behavior that “shocks the system” and “shows no signs of stopping.” Ellis criticized Bovino’s videotaped deposition, where he discussed the methods employed by federal agents during Operation Midway Blitz, including his own actions regarding the use of force.

Jordon Hudson Avoids Meeting with Bill Belichick’s Daughter-in-Law

In a recent display of composure, Jordon Hudson and Jennifer Schmitt, Bill Belichick’s daughter-in-law, seemed to steer clear of any awkward encounters during the UNC game on Saturday evening. The pair, who have had their share of past tensions, maintained their distance throughout the event. Hudson, 24, was seen on the sidelines before the match against Stanford, where her 73-year-old partner, Belichick, played a pivotal role in guiding his team to a 20-15 victory. Choosing to watch the game from a separate suite, Hudson positioned herself away from Schmitt, who has previously voiced criticism of her. This strategic distance seemed intentional, avoiding any potential friction. At 35, Schmitt is married to Stephen Belichick, Bill’s son, who serves as the defensive coordinator at the University of North Carolina, working alongside his father. The dynamics between Schmitt and Hudson remain somewhat ambiguous, though tensions flared after Schmitt openly criticized Hudson following their awkward CBS interview in April. During the interview, Hudson had caused a stir by cutting in off-camera to prevent Belichick from answering a question about their first meeting. This incident triggered a wave of public criticism, leading former New England Patriots players Julian Edelman and Rob Gronkowski to speculate whether Hudson was acting in her capacity as Belichick’s unofficial spokesperson. Comedian Nikki Glaser stood up for Hudson, agreeing she was acting on behalf of Belichick. But spotting the clip and comment on Instagram, Schmitt wrote back: ‘Publicists act in a professional manner and don’t ‘storm’ off set delaying an interview.’ It was one of many critical comments that came off the back of that CBS interview – the broadcaster said that while they showed Hudson interfering once, she actually interrupted proceedings on several occasions. It led to one of Belichick’s ex-Patriots players, Ted Johnson, even going as far as to question if his old coach was ‘of sound mind’ to let Hudson have such an influence over his life. Belichick, meanwhile, insisted Hudson did what she was supposed to do in a PR capacity and that he had only agreed to speak to CBS about a book he was promoting, not his personal life. But the shot that would have hit closest to home definitely came from Schmitt. So with that in mind, it is perhaps no surprise that nearly seven months later, they are still keeping their distance. But pictures show Schmitt having a great time cheering UNC on to victory as they beat another ACC rival on Saturday night in Stanford. After a disastrous start to the season, there are slow and steady signs of improvement for Belichick’s team. When Hudson appeared on the sideline before the game, she seemingly had a message to send to her long list of critics. She wore a necklace that read ‘Banned’, which has been interpreted as hitting back at reports UNC banned her from their facilities earlier this year. The college put out a statement denying those reports. Jennifer married longtime partner Steve back in 2017, with the couple tying the knot at the Siasconset Union Chapel in Nantucket. They’re also parents to four children; daughter Blakely Rose, eight, son Hayes William, four, daughter Quincy Grace, three, and son Rocco Joseph, two. Steve, 38, has followed his legendary father into coaching, spending 11 years as a member of his Patriots backroom staff before enjoying a brief stint as defensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies after his dad’s exit last year. And when Belichick made a dramatic move into college football with North Carolina earlier this year, his oldest son followed him and took on the role of defensive coordinator with the Tar Heels. UNC plays Wake Forest next Saturday afternoon.
