Bill Belichick Explains Biggest Difference of Coaching College Football vs. NFL

Bill Belichick's first year as the North Carolina Tar Heels head coach has had its share of growing pains. But for Belichick, one of the biggest lessons may have been off the field. Belichick shared that the most notable difference for him between coaching college football and in the NFL has been dealing with the transfer portal vs. free agency. The 73-year-old cited that in the pros, teams can plan in advance who they want to target or keep out of a pool of upcoming available players, but in college, anyone is fair game at any time. "Once you cut it down, maybe there's your 75 out of the 400 [free agents] that you're actually interested in. I mean, here, you have 100 players on every team times however many teams," Belichick said Tuesday. "I mean, there's literally thousands of players that could potentially enter the portal or not. So, that's a little bit different. And your team, everybody is a free agent, or they're not." Unlike his days with the Patriots, Belichick is now understanding more and more that he has less control over his roster given the lack of contract rights and the ability to lock players in for next year or multiple years, i.e. player options. Prior to this season, UNC lost 23 players through the portal and welcomed 21 players, though the results haven't been the best in between the lines. Belichick's Tar Heels, at 3-5, are near the bottom of the ACC entering Week 11, with a 1-3 record in conference play that has them 14th. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox? It was the New York Fashion Week fight heard 'round the world when Nicki and Cardi got into a heated altercation at the Harper's Bazaar Icon party. The following month, Cardi opened up about the catalyst for the fight with Nicki. "For a while now she's been taking a lot of shots at me," Cardi said in W magazine's Art Issue. "I spoke to her twice before, and we came to an understanding. But she kept it going." The real spark of the fight came when Cardi saw that Nicki had allegedly liked and then unliked a tweet about Cardi's parenting skills, which Nicki has denied. "I was going to make millions off my Bruno Mars tour, and I sacrificed that to stay with my daughter," Cardi continued. "I love my daughter. I'm a good-ass f--king mom. So for somebody that don't have a child to like that comment? So many people want to say that party wasn't the time or the place, but I'm not going to catch another artist in the grocery store or down the block."

Arrest made in killing of two boys at Halloween party

Chula Vista police have made an arrest in the fatal shooting of two boys at a party on Halloween night. David Garcia, 18, was taken into custody without incident near his home in National City and has been booked into county jail on murder charges. The Chula Vista Police Department said that officers initially responded to reports of a shooting on Oct. 31 at 11:17 p.m. on E. Prospect Street. When they arrived, they found two people suffering from gunshot wounds. Police took the two to UCSD Medical Center, where they were both pronounced dead. The victims were identified as Elias Yanez, 17 and Kane Roldan, 15. Police said that the boys were at a Halloween party when an argument led to the shooting. “At this time, there are no additional suspects believed to be outstanding,” a statement from CVPD said. “However, the investigation remains active and ongoing, and additional arrests are possible as new information develops.” Investigators continue to urge anyone with information, photos, or video related to the case to come forward. Witnesses can contact law enforcement or San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477. Anyone can submit tips anonymously online or through the P3tips mobile application

How budget day unfolded in Ottawa — from budget takeaways to a floor-crossing surprise

Hi everyone, I’m Inayat Singh, a reporter with CBC’s climate unit in Toronto. I’m seeing a strong focus on the industrial carbon pricing system in this budget, which is the single most important part of Canada’s climate plan in terms of driving down emissions. The Carney government’s plan seems aimed at addressing uncertainty with the price, which experts and industry leaders have told me is the biggest issue in the system. I wrote earlier this year about the issue. The budget commits to come up with a pricing plan post-2030, giving companies the clarity they need to make investment decisions. Canada’s industrial carbon price is more than just a tax. It’s a complex system to push heavily emitting industries, like steel, cement, mining and manufacturing, to gradually reduce emissions by adopting new, more energy efficient technologies or switching to renewable energy. The system also raises money to help companies make that transition.

Pretty Little Liars’ Troian Bellisario Expecting Baby No. 3

"We don’t know your name yet. We don’t know your gender. We don’t know what your smile looks like or what your first laugh will do to our hearts," he wrote Nov. 4. "We don’t what will make you laugh or cry or what food you will fall in love with first. We don’t know what will scare you or how you’ll learn to overcome it. We don’t know what kind of music will make you want to move or what kind of clothes you’ll reach for when your arms are strong enough to grab them." The Wayward actor further noted that while he and Troian may be experienced parents, they are still looking forward to the happy surprises that inevitably come with a new baby, including the "gymnastics our hearts will do when we get to hold you for the first time." "We’ve been here before but we’ve never been here with you and so we really know nothing at all. Almost nothing," Patrick added. "What we do know is that we have an infinite supply of love waiting for you. Love, laughter, tears, dance parties, lullabies and lessons. We’ll show you some stuff but you will teach us everything else. We don’t know much but we know there is nothing we want to be more than your parents."

Cher Says 40-Year Age Gap With Alexander “A.E.” Edwards is Non-Issue

One thing that’s not unwritten? The way Kristin felt about her 13-year age gap with ex-boyfriend Mark Estes. “Me dating a 24-year-old is not something that I was searching out,” The Hills alum said on a March 2024 episode of her podcast Let’s Be Honest. “It’s not something that I ever thought would ever happen. If you guys listen to the podcast, you know I thought 30-year-olds were too young for me.” And while Kristin said she understands how “it looks to the outside world,” she insisted Mark is “not a typical 24-year-old” and that there’s more to a person than their birth year. “I really think age is just a number,” she continued. “It’s what you’ve been through in your life, how you were raised. There are just so many factors that go into maturity other than age.”But months later, Kristin shared she broke up with Mark. “I just know long-term he needs to experience life,” she said on an October episode of her podcast. “He’s young. He is. I started to feel the age a bit just with life experience. I look back when I was 24 and how much life has happened for me in between then. Those are crucial years. Those are formative years. This is when you find yourself and he needs to be able to do that.”Still, she called their romance "the best relationship" of her life and expressed hope that Mark will realize their split was for the best."I know that one day he will look back and he will understand it," she added, "and I actually think one day he will thank me."

Marjorie Taylor Greene calls out Johnson over House not meeting during shutdown

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday called out Speaker Mike Johnson over the House not meeting for weeks during the government shutdown. Appearing on ABC's "The View," the outspoke Georgia Republican said, "I have no problem pointing fingers at everyone. And the worst thing that I that I just can't get over is we're not working right now. And I put that criticism directly on the speaker of the House, and we should be at work. "All the people sitting in this audience, they go to work every day, people at home watching the show, they go to work every day. Ladies, you go to work every day," she told "The View" co-hosts. "It is an embarrassment to me that we're not in session and getting paid," she said, referring to lawmakers still getting paid during the shutdown. This is a developing story. 2025 Golden Boy: PSG's Desire Doue beats Chelsea star to prestigious award

Paris Saint-Germain attacker Desire Doue has officially won the 2025 Golden Boy award, fending off competition from some of Europe's best young players. Doue enjoyed an outstanding debut season at the Parc des Princes in 2024-25, scoring 16 goals and providing 16 assists in all competitions as Luis Enrique’s side won the Champions League, Ligue 1, and the French Cup. The 20-year-old attacker arrived at Parc des Princes for a fee of €50 million last summer and cemented his place in Enrique's starting lineup. His stellar campaign was capped off by a Man of the Match performance in the Champions League final after scoring two goals and providing one assist in the 5-0 thumping of Inter Milan. The Golden Boy award was founded by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003 and recognises the best U21 footballer in world football each season. Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal was the winner of last year's edition, making him ineligible for this year’s prize as past winners cannot win twice. Doue subsequently fought off competition from the likes of Pau Cubarsi (Barcelona), Estevao (Chelsea), Kenan Yildiz (Juventus), and Dean Huijsen (Real Madrid) to win the award. This is another individual honour for the Parisians this season, following Ousmane Dembele's Ballon d'Or triumph back in September, where he beat out Yamal.

World Cup playoffs: Gabon set to announce squad for Super Eagles clash

Gabon coach to name squad for Super Eagles clash on Thursday Gabon's national team coach, Thierry Mouyouma, is set to reveal his 25-man squad this Thursday for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff clash against Nigeria's Super Eagles. According to reports from the Gabonese Press Agency (AGP), the list is expected to feature key players who have been central to their campaign. Team captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, along with Mario Lemina and Denis Bouanga, are all anticipated to be named in the squad. Bouanga has been a standout performer for The Panthers, leading their scoring chart in the qualifiers with an impressive eight goals. Aubameyang has also been a significant contributor, finding the net seven times. The crucial semi-final match against the Super Eagles is scheduled for Thursday, November 13, at the El Barid Stadium in Rabat, Morocco. The other semi-final will see Cameroon's Indomitable Lions face off against the Leopards of the Democratic Republic of Congo. The winner of this four-team playoff tournament will advance to the intercontinental playoffs, which are slated to take place in Mexico in March 2026, for a final chance to secure a spot in the World Cup.

Mass Murderer George Banks Dies In Prison At 83 Latest News

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — George Banks, one of the most notorious mass murderers in the U.S., has died. Banks, 83, died Sunday afternoon at Phoenix state prison in Pennsylvania, the state Department of Corrections said. Banks died of complications from renal neoplasm, or kidney cancer, said Montgomery County Coroner Dr. Janine Darby. Banks had been in prison since 1982 after shooting 14 people, and killing 13, including his own children, during a rampage in Wilkes-Barre. At time, it was considered one of the worst mass murders in American history. He was convicted of 12 counts of first-degree murder and one count of third-degree murder. Banks had been drinking at a party late at night before using an AR-15 rifle to start the rampage at his home. Five victims were his children, ages 1 to 6. Four more were the mothers of his children. Other victims were bystanders, including an 11-year-old child who sometimes stayed with his family, a 7-year-old child and a teenager who saw Banks leaving his home armed with the rifle and recognized him. Banks killed three women and five children at his home, authorities say. Then, dressed in green army fatigues with an ammunition bandolier around his chest and shoulders, Banks left, when he saw four teenagers walking to their car from a nearby friend’s house. He shot one fatally, and another, who survived, authorities say. He stole a car and went to the Heather Highlands Trailer Park where police found the bodies of Banks’ son and the child’s mother, as well as her mother and her nephew. From there, Banks went to his mother’s house, who told police that Banks told her, “I killed them. I killed them all,” court records say. Banks eventually surrendered after a four-hour standoff at a friend’s house after police tried to convince him that his victims had survived. Eventually, state courts prevented his execution, saying he wasn’t mentally competent. That left Banks with a sentence of life imprisonment. The teenager who survived being shot by Banks, Jim Olson, later expressed frustration in 2012 that Banks hadn’t been executed, saying, “What is the sense of having a death penalty if you don’t use it or enforce it?" Defense lawyers had argued that Banks was insane when he went on the shooting spree. After his arrest, Banks, who is biracial, claimed he had killed his children to save them from the pain of growing up in a racist society. During his trial, he overruled his lawyer on strategic decisions, and argued instead that prosecutors, the judge and the mayor of Wilkes-Barre were conspiring against him. Banks also showed the jury gory pictures of his victims, even after his lawyer had successfully gotten the photos barred on the grounds that they were gruesome and prejudicial.

Liverpool vs Real Madrid: Arne Slot provides injury update on Isak

Liverpool manager Arne Slot discussed Alexander Isak's availability for the Real Madrid clash. Liverpool boss Arne Slot has ruled out Alexander Isak for the game against Real Madrid for the Champions League clash, stating that the Sweden international remains injured. Pay attention: Is Livescorebet the best betting site in Nigeria? The former Newcastle man suffered a groin injury during their UCL game against Eintracht Frankfurt, subsequently missing the games against Brentford, Crystal Palace, and Aston Villa. What Slot said Isak is close to a return to action; however, it will not be in time for the game against Real Madrid. Slot ruled him out of the clash, along with Jeremie Frimpong and first-choice goalkeeper Allison. “All three are not available tomorrow. Jeremie and Alisson will both not be available for Sunday [at Manchester City],” he said, per Goal. “With Alex, we have to wait and see. He definitely is not starting on Sunday, but maybe he can be in the squad. But he is still not training with the team, so we have to wait and see." Meanwhile, Trent Alexander-Arnold is set for a reunion with his former Liverpool teammates soon, as Real Madrid are scheduled to play the Reds in the Champions League. Speaking ahead of the match, he confirmed that he will not celebrate if he scores against his boyhood club, underlining the bond and respect he still holds for the Premier League champions.

Gabby Thomas on the power of self-compassion in elite sports

Paris Oymmpics sprint queen Gabby Thomas talked on the most important topics as an elite sprinter, delving majorly into self-compassion and dealing with mental pressure. With the 2025 season already done and dusted, three-time Olympic gold medalist Gabby Thomas is shifting her focus to a quality often overlooked in the high-stakes world of elite athletics: self-compassion. "Self-compassion has been crucial throughout my athletic career," Thomas revealed in an exclusive interview with Her Campus. "If I’m being too hard on myself, it can chip away at my confidence and affect my self-care routines." The renowned American sprint queen and Harvard graduate, represents a unique blend of fierce determination and intellectual rigor. However, she credits the quiet strength of self-compassion as being just as vital to her success as any physical training regimen. "My own self-care is important, like how I speak to myself, getting rest, and prioritizing mental health," Thomas explained. "But it’s also about how I show up for my community and the people around me. Surrounding myself with people and routines that make me feel grounded is a big part of my self-care." While Olympic sprinters are often known for their fierce and disciplined nature, the 28-year-old argues that compassion—for herself and others—is a foundational source of power, not a weakness. Her work as a public health advocate off the track gives her a professional understanding of well-being, which directly informs her personal approach. Thomas is currently channeling her passion for equity into a partnership with Mrs. Meyer’s for their "Lots of Compassion" initiative, which transforms vacant lots into community gardens. "This work is incredibly important and personal for me because my mom has always taught me to leave places better than you found them," she said. "Health and well-being are very important to me, and off the track, I carry that same spirit into my work at my local community health clinic." This professional background also provides Thomas with a unique insight into public perceptions of athletes' mental health. "One of the misconceptions that the public has about athletes is that we are superhumans who don’t experience doubt or get shaken up," she noted. "Truthfully, we feel anxiety and burnout just like everyone else, but perhaps magnified due to the expectations placed on us." Dealing with mental pressure as an elite sprinter Gabby Thomas is no stranger to this immense pressure. She recalled a low point in 2022 while recovering from a torn hamstring that disrupted her season. "I was worried about proving to myself and everyone else that I could come back feeling like myself, or stronger," she shared. "In this moment, I had to lean into self-compassion and remind myself to not focus on what could go wrong, but to focus on how much had gone right." Her strategy involved a gentle shift in mindset rather than an intense physical push. "I reminded myself how much work and resilience it took to get back on the track and that real progress takes time," she said. "I started practicing gratitude journaling and prioritizing rest—ultimately, these self-compassion tools are what helped lead me to winning three Olympic golds just two years later." She further explained: "Not only has compassion been key for me in my academic career, but also in my track career. It helps me reset after setbacks, and also makes me a better teammate." Thomas welcomes the increasingly open dialogue surrounding mental health in sports. "I’m glad these conversations are happening now so that being open about mental health struggles is no longer stigmatized, but rather humanizing," she stated. "Creating more compassion across sports culture is definitely important to me." After a bright start to the 2025 season by winning her trademark 200m event and running a personal best in the 400m at the Grand Slam Track in Kingston, Thomas' season became traumatized with lingering Achilles injury that saw her withdraw from the World Championships in Tokyo. With the disappoitment now behind and full recovery expected for next year, Thomas will be gunning to bounce back stronger and regain her position as one of the world's best sprinters.

I was able to educate Peter Obi - Former NFF president responds to allegations of FIFA fund mismanagement

Amaju Pinnick responds to Peter Obi’s criticism to allegations of FIFA fund mismanagement Former President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has dismissed allegations of financial mismanagement in the controversial FIFA Goal Project in Kebbi State, calling the situation a “misunderstanding” rather than a case of corruption. His clarification follows widespread public outrage after FIFA shared a photo of the half-completed Kebbi Stadium on social media, a project reportedly funded with $1.2 million from FIFA’s development grant. The image, which surfaced online in 2023, showed the stadium in an unfinished state, prompting Nigerians to question how the funds were utilised. Peter Obi says Corruption in Sports Reflects Nigeria’s Deeper Malaise Earlier, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi had issued a strong statement condemning corruption in Nigeria’s sports sector. In his post on X (formerly Twitter), Obi described the situation as “a heartbreaking reflection of Nigeria’s deeper malaise.” “FIFA’s recent revelation about the mismanagement of funds released to Nigeria’s Football Federation for stadium development and youth talent growth is both sickening and shameful. It mirrors the broader decay in how our scarce national resources are handled,” Obi wrote. The former Anambra State governor also recalled that Awka was selected years ago as one of six locations for a FIFA-funded stadium project. However, he said the project never materialised, forcing his administration to construct the Awka Stadium independently. “Years later, nothing came of the promised FIFA project, which prompted us to initiate the construction of the Awka Stadium ourselves,” Obi noted. He lamented that since 2013, about $25 million has reportedly been received by the NFF from FIFA and CAF for football and youth development, yet “there is little or nothing to show for it.” “The so-called $1.2 million stadium in Kebbi State is a national embarrassment. The structure in no way reflects the funds claimed to have been spent on it,” he added. Obi further called for transparency and accountability, stating that Nigeria’s leadership must embrace integrity to rebuild the nation. “Until we start demanding accountability in every sector, including sports our nation will continue to crawl where it should be soaring. A New Nigeria is POssible,” he concluded. What Pinnick said Speaking on ARISE News on Wednesday, Pinnick defended the transparency and accountability of the project, noting that FIFA’s financial monitoring system leaves no room for diversion of funds. “There was no mismanagement whatsoever. FIFA has a strict monitoring and auditing system that ensures every dollar released for Goal Projects is tracked,” Pinnick said. Pinnick also addressed the public backlash from 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, adding that misinformation had contributed to the misunderstanding. “When I saw what they said Peter Obi said, I called Peter Obi and I was able to educate him on this issue. He is a statesman, and I told him we must weigh whatever we say carefully. We cannot continue to keep quiet when we see things we can correct,” he said. He explained that delays in completion were caused by “logistical and bureaucratic challenges,” not corruption. According to him, the project remains under construction and will be delivered as intended. The FIFA Goal Project initiative was introduced to help developing football nations build infrastructure such as training pitches, administrative offices, and stadiums. Nigeria has benefited from several Goal Projects across different states, including Abuja, Delta, and Kebbi. However, the Kebbi project has drawn controversy after photos of the incomplete stadium went viral. Many Nigerians took to social media to accuse NFF officials of diverting the allocated funds.

Lampard vs. Gerrard: Former England star weighs in on better ball-striking debate

Joe Cole weighs in on Lampard vs. Gerrard ball-striking debate Former England international Joe Cole has offered his verdict on the long-standing debate over who was the superior ball-striker: his former Chelsea teammate Frank Lampard or his Liverpool colleague Steven Gerrard. The Lampard versus Gerrard argument dominated English football for years, with fans and pundits endlessly comparing the two midfield icons. Both are celebrated as two of the greatest midfielders in Premier League history, making any definitive choice between them a difficult one. What Cole said During a recent quickfire Q&A session, Cole was tasked with comparing the two legends across several attributes. When the topic of ball-striking arose, he faced a particularly tough decision. Pace: GerrardLeft foot: LampardRight foot: GerrardFirst touch: GerrardHairline: GerrardBall-striking: LampardTekkers: GerrardLeadership: LampardSet-pieces: GerrardPenalties: LampardSilverware: Lampard Gerrard is renowned for his spectacular long-range goals, with his unforgettable strike in the 2006 FA Cup Final against West Ham being a prime example. However, Lampard's goalscoring record from midfield is unparalleled in the Premier League era. He holds the record for the most goals from outside the penalty area with 41, surpassing Gerrard's impressive tally of 33. Without hesitation, Cole named Lampard as the better striker of the ball. His opinion aligns with that of another Chelsea legend, John Terry, who has previously stated that Lampard was the best midfielder he ever played alongside. Cole also compared the two across other categories, distributing the accolades evenly in what appeared to be a fair assessment. While some might suggest he was trying to remain diplomatic, the legendary status of both players means a strong case can be made for either in any debate.
