Tourists Were Enjoying Safari Trip. In the 'Blink of an Eye,' Elephant Guarding Babies Charged at Them

Two tourists are speaking out after an elephant protecting her young calves began charging at them while they were on a canoe safari trip in Africa. The incident happened on Sept. 27 in Botswana’s Okavango Delta as canoes were carrying British and American tourists, The Times reported. Speaking with Good Morning America, Jeff Melvin and Larry Unrein said that their safari adventure was incredible until they came across a herd of elephants. "We kept telling that they were kind of getting a little annoyed at our presence," Melvin said. "Then just in the blink of an eye, things kind of changed." "What we did not see was the mom with the two babies," Unrein added. "They were hidden in some tall grass, but out of sight." As captured in dramatic video footage, the mother elephant rapidly traveled through the reeds and approached the tourist group, knocking and flipping over two canoes that sent two couples into waters infested with crocodiles, according to The Telegraph. "The first thought that came to my mind was, 'This is the end of me,' " Melvin told GMA. The footage showed the elephant, which may have weighed 10,000 pounds, knocking down a female tourist into the waters with her trunk, and then briefly pinning her before giving up, the outlet reported. Thankfully, the woman managed to get back up and was helped by her husband. Melvin and Unrein said they escaped with the help of their guides. Meanwhile, Ron Magill, a representative for Zoo Miami, explained to GMA that the woman is lucky to be alive. "That patron was incredibly lucky that this happened in the water, because generally speaking, elephants, what they do when they go after somebody, is they literally try to mash them into the ground," he added. Magill also warned that elephants who are protecting their calves are dangerous because they are "incredibly protective." "It's important that people understand you need to respect distance," the spokesperson added. "You need to give animals distance." Today, Melvin and Unrein said they are grateful they survived the ordeal. "I thought for sure I was dead," Unrein said. "And then once I was safe, it was just jubilation. I was very happy to be alive." According to National Geographic, the Okavango Delta is described as a “haven for wildlife” and “one of the most magnificent natural spectacles you can experience.” In addition to elephants, the delta is home to such animals as buffalos, hippos and antelopes.

Blue Jays’ ALDS Sweep Dreams Shattered as Yankees to Force Another Game in Toronto, Deems Insider

Jeff Passan summed up the situation perfectly: “The Yankees will send the ALDS back to Toronto. As underwater as they look, the Yankees have a pathway back into this series despite a 2-0 deficit. Shane Bieber, the Blue Jays’ Game 3 starter, is going to fill up the strike zone — and has been homer-prone in recent starts. And with the short porch in right field calling, the Yankees’ left-handed bats will answer. Getting to Game 4 brings Cam Schlittler, who, in his first postseason start, threw eight shutout innings and punched out 12 without walking a batter. Although the Blue Jays are ball-in-play merchants, Schlittler’s stuff is overwhelming enough to quiet them and make for a Game 5 for the ages at Rogers Centre.” And honestly, there is no lie in this- Yankees need not lose all hope. And you have to remember that the New York Yankees lost Game 2, but they did show spark in the game’s garbage time. They scored seven runs on 10 hits once rookie Trey Yesavage was pulled. Ben Rice even pointed out that those at-bats do matter because they’re chances to get familiarized with Toronto’s bullpen before the real do-or-die moment comes. If the Yankees want a comeback, though, it won’t come easy. It will surely take a near-perfect mix of great hitting, awesome pitching, and mostly Aaron Judge, their captain, waking up from his early postseason slump. Plus, the Yankees have a home-field advantage, as they are playing in Yankee Stadium, and the fact that Jays pitchers need to be perfect gives them a huge chance to keep the series alive. The Yankees have a chance to shut down Shane Bieber and the Toronto Blue Jays from a sweep. Although they did make a decision, it has many scratching their heads. New York Yankees make a shocking shuffle in lineup The New York Yankees are staring down at the possibility of an early exit from the playoffs after dropping the first two games at the Rogers Center. Heading back to the Bronx, the venue may have changed, but the challenges—those are still there. For Game 3, most of the lineup has remained unchanged. But there is one exception, and it is Paul Goldschmidt. Goldschmidt won’t be in the starting nine, and instead Ben Rice, the rookie, will step in at first base and will hit fourth in the batting order. And this move in this do-or-die situation is a bold one, because at this point, every at-bat matters here. Plus, on the mound for the Jays is Shane Bieber, and the numbers are stark. Right-handed hitters like Paul Goldschmidt have had success against him, slashing .297/.342/.595 with six home runs this season. But lefties like Rice? The numbers are not promising—156/.247/.247 with just two homers. Hence, this matchup in Game 3 feels risky or so given Bieber’s return from his Tommy John surgery has kept him under the radar this season. Goldschmidt, meanwhile, has been great in both the regular season and the postseason, and he showed promise in his limited playoff at-bats, too. Now, with the Yankees struggling to get the runners on base despite them having heavy hitters like Aaron Judge, Cody Bellinger, and Giancarlo Stanton, it makes them sit a veteran like Goldschmidt questionable. For now, the Yankees are banking on the crowd to lift the spirits of the team. But the stakes are high, and honestly, Aaron Boone is already under scrutiny even by veterans, and if things go wrong in this game, Bronx fans won’t go easy on him.

Denise Richards Cries Over Aaron Phypers in Bombshell Video, Says Charlie Sheen 'Never Hit Below the Belt' Like Him

New evidence shared in Denise Richards' ongoing court battle with Aaron Phypers makes reference to one of the star's previous high-profile marriages. Richards, 54, and Phypers, 53, appeared in court in Los Angeles on Tuesday, Oct. 7, for a hearing regarding a temporary restraining order the actress was granted against her ex in July and is now seeking to make permanent. During the hearing, a video that Richards said she'd recorded at the beginning of August was shown. The actress said she sent the video to Phypers on Aug. 21, just weeks after he filed for divorce, when she was "was moving all of our things out of the studio townhouse." In the video, which was shown in its entirety by Phypers' attorneys in court, Richards drew a direct comparison between her six-year marriage to Phypers and Charlie Sheen, who she was married to from 2002 to 2005 and shares daughters Sami, 21, and Lola, 20, with. "Things were bad with Charlie and I, but he never hit below the belt," she said. Richards made another comparison to Sheen, 60, as she said of Phypers, "I don't know you. Charlie, I knew. Every other ex, I knew. You, I don't know. That's why this has been really f------- hard." "I don't even know who the f--- you are," she continued of Phypers, who has repeatedly denied all accusations of abuse against Richards. "And I gave you everything." In the video, Richards also alleged that she found evidence of Phypers cheating — "I saw the d--- pics you took," she claimed at one point — and denied that she had cheated. Richards said that it was "such a shock" when Phypers filed for divorce. "I really thought you were my soulmate," she said. In the video, Richards also said she "tried my hardest" with Phypers, calling him "the one person I always thought I could trust and that would protect me," but who ended up being the "opposite" of that. "You've hit me too many f----- times and each time it's getting worse and worse," she alleged. As the video played in the courtroom, Richards was visibly emotional and wiping away tears as she watched it back. The references to Richards' ex-husband came after Phypers' attorney filed a witness list that named Sheen as someone he may call on in a future hearing, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE. Brandi Glanville was also included in that list. The testimonies from Sheen and Glanville would be related to "Denise's history of not being truthful and of drug and alcohol abuse," per the filing. Amidst their ongoing divorce, Richards was granted a temporary restraining order against Phypers and accused him of domestic violence. In the July 17 filing, she claimed he repeatedly abused her, would "frequently violently choke me," and "violently slap me in my face and head, aggressively slam my head into the bathroom towel rack, threaten to kill me, hold me down with his knee on my back to the point where I would have to plead with him to get off me so that he would not kill me." Phypers denied the claims, calling them "completely false and deeply hurtful" in a statement to PEOPLE, and then he accused Richards of cheating on him and being physically abusive. "Denise and I, like many couples, have faced our share of challenges, but any suggestion of abuse is categorically untrue," he added in his statement to PEOPLE. "I have always tried to approach our marriage with love, patience, and respect." In court on Oct. 6, Phypers' alleged abuse was discussed as Richards testified that her ex "almost killed me so many damn times" and "would often threaten to throw me through the windows and off balconies." She continued her testimony on Oct. 7, claiming that Phypers “caused me at least three concussions” during their relationship.

Tim Curry Addresses Crowd During Rare Public Appearance for “Rocky Horror”'s 50th Anniversary: 'Sitting in a Wheelchair, So Get Over It!'

Tim Curry is embracing the love for all things Transylvanian. The actor, 79, attended Cinespia’s screening of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at Hollywood Forever Cemetery alongside his costar, Barry Bostwick. The friends posed for photos at the special event, in celebration not just of spooky season, but the film's 50th anniversary. It was a special outing for the actor, whose public appearances have diminished since his near-fatal stroke in 2012. Addressing the crowd ahead of the film's screening, Curry was witty as ever as he told fans, "I'd like to tell you that I haven't been legless before tonight, but it wouldn't be true. Unfortunately, I'm currently sitting in a wheelchair, so get over it!" The crowd erupted in a show of support for the actor, who has kept working despite his health struggles. Curry also poked fun at Bostwick on stage, joking, "When Barry was being introduced, he was introduced as an OG, and I'm assuming that means 'Old Geezer,'" he laughed. Bostwick shared fond memories of Curry from when they first met, telling the crowd, "[Curry] was the one who came up and gave us the biggest hug and gave us the warmest welcome." "I'll never forget that. We were there only five weeks, it took to make this movie, and the moment that Susan and I and Meatloaf... when we got off the plane, you hugged us and said, 'Welcome, welcome.' Welcome to your world, and we've been there for 50 years. It wouldn't be the same without you." Fans cheered and screamed, "I love you," at Curry, to which he replied, "I love you more. I love you much more." Earlier this year, the actor appeared in Strange Journey: The Story of Rocky Horror — a documentary by Linus O'Brien, son of creator Richard O’Brien, examining his father's creative brainchild. There, Curry recalled setting the tone when the stage show debuted in London in the 1970s. "It was a really good time. It was very creative and I remember reaching a crisis fairly early on because I would snap out an order to somebody and they wouldn’t quite jump to it," Curry remembered. "And I stopped and sort of had a rather small tantrum and said, ‘Look I can’t be powerful if you don’t accept the power and at least cringe a little.’ So that took care of that pretty quickly." Curry continued, "I mean, they were awfully good about that. Acting is a very competitive sport and you have to take it on, like a prize fight. And I’ve lost a few in my time.”
