Sam Raimi's Terrifying PG-13 Horror Movie Is Streaming For Free Before Halloween

When the great Sam Raimi announced that, as a palate cleanser after making three mega-budged superhero movies in a row (his "Spider-Man" trilogy starring Tobey Maguire), he was planning to make his first balls-to-the-wall horror movie since 1993's "Army of Darkness," genre fans rejoiced ... until they learned the film would be rated PG-13. After all, Raimi had earned carte blanche with his three blockbuster web-slinger flicks. Why not let er' rip with a down and dirty "spook-a-blast?" If you asked me to name the 10 most intense PG-13 movies of all time, Sam Raimi's "Drag Me to Hell" would absolutely be on the list. It is a relentlessly terrifying tale about an ambitious bank loan officer (Alison Lohman) who gets cursed by an elderly Romani woman (Lorna Raver) when she repossesses the financially struggling woman's house. Lohman's heartlessness, goaded on by her boss (David Paymer), leads to her being cursed; suddenly, she's scrambling to learn everything about Romani superstition and customs before she is consigned to the bad place. Given that this is the scary season, you're probably in the market for some great horror movies; however, if you're a non-fan looking for a new-to-you fright flick, you might find the myriad of choices overwhelming. If you're okay with streaming movies for free with ad breaks, Tubi's got you covered with some classics that might have passed you by. One of those movies could very well be "Drag Me to Hell." But why, aside from knowing it's a horror film directed by Raimi (who never, ever misses in this genre), should you give this movie a shot?

5 Marvel Movie Characters We Hope Get More Screentime In Phase Six

The original "Howard the Duck" comics from the 1970s were meant to be a spoof of Marvel's own space adventures. Howard, an anthropomorphic waterfowl from another dimension, was an alcoholic, foul-mouthed a-hole who unwittingly became embroiled in cosmic weirdness, usually reacting with a "can you believe this?" attitude. Howard had cameos in "Guardians of the Galaxy" volumes 1 and 2, and appeared briefly in the massive battle in "Avengers: Endgame." He's an especially weird character in a film franchise stuffed with weird characters. He, like Deadpool, could serve as the means for the MCU to take the p*** out of itself a little. Give Howard his own movie, and he could finally address how bugnuts crazy this series is, and how we've come to naturally accept the wizards, gods, spies, talking trees, and other oddities in the MCU. Many may point out that Howard the Duck already starred in his own movie, "Howard the Duck," way back in 1986. That film, however, was so unsuccessful, it was long held up as one of the worst examples of Hollywood run amok. "Howard the Duck" was the bomb to end all bombs, mentioned in the same sentence as other notorious turkeys as "Ishtar" and "Heaven's Gate." That, however, was almost 40 years ago, and it's high time the character was reclaimed. Also, given the winking self-awareness of something like "Deadpool & Wolverine," one can see a new Howard the Duck appearance as ironic. Yes, there's a talking, alcoholic duck in this universe. Yes, he hates everything about superhero stories. Yes, we can use him to acknowledge that the multiverse is silly, and superheroes have outstayed their welcome in the public consciousness. Howard the Duck may just save us. Deadpool is too far gone. He wants to be an Avenger, and cares about the Avengers characters. Howard may just have the temerity to give Captain America the finger (or feather, as the case may be).

Why Marvel's Ultimate Universe Is Ending In 2026

Bleeding Cool has reported that Hickman took up architecting the new "Ultimate" Universe on the condition of a limited run. In BC's words, Hickman didn't want "a repeat of the Krakoa situation." What does that mean? In 2019, Hickman took over writing the X-Men. His kick-off mini-series "House of X" (drawn by Pepe Larraz) and "Powers of X" (drawn by R.B. Silva) didn't just start a new story, they also built a whole new setting for other X-Men writers. Professor X and Magneto founded a new mutant homeland on the living island of Krakoa; the mutants created a new language, blackmailed their way into the geo-political order, and the lines between hero and villain dissolved as all mutants are welcomed on Krakoa. Different writers explored unique niches of an overarching story, with Hickman serving as the "showrunner." Hickman only saw Krakoa as "Act 1, " though ... until he polled his writers and realized they wanted Krakoa to continue (per Entertainment Weekly). So, Hickman left "X-Men" before Krakoa ended anyway in 2024. But while his departure was amicable, Hickman still regrets not getting to finish the X-Men story he intended to write. It makes total sense that he wouldn't want to experience that again. The new "Ultimate Universe" will also avoid the fate of the 2000s "Ultimate Marvel," which kept going for 15 years and became as labyrinthine as the original Marvel Universe. The ending is bittersweet ("I'm sad too," Momoko admitted on Twitter/X), but it could actually give the "Ultimate Universe" longevity. Each series had a single creative vision from beginning to end. Thus, in years to come, readers will be able to read the whole thing relatively easily, which isn't true for most Marvel comic books.

The Orville Season 4: Everything We Know So Far

A keen reader has no doubt noticed the asterisks this article is sprinkled with when it comes to any solid information about whether "The Orville" season 4 will in fact be made at all. This is because there really is no solid proof that the season is coming, just plenty of whispers in the wind. As President Craig Erwich of ABC Entertainment, Hulu & Disney Branded Television Streaming Originals told TVLine in January 2023, the love for "The Orville" is there, even if the ink on paper isn't. "It's a great show and I know that the fans loved having it back in their lives," Erwich said. "And Seth did a great job, uniquely as he can, in front of and behind the camera. But we don't have anything to share right now." As for MacFarlane himself, he has made no bones about the fact that "The Orville" is still kicking as far as he's concerned. "All I can tell you is that there is no official death certificate for The Orville," MacFarlane said in a January 2024 interview with The Wrap. "It is still with us. I can't go any further than that at the moment. There are too many factors." At the end of the day, the reason for all this shuffling of feet may be simple. Perhaps the show's ambitious scope, arduous production, and comparative lack of name recognition in a genre dominated by spin-offs of existing IPs make it a difficult thing to commit to in the post-pandemic struggles of the entertainment industry. Still, it seems clear that MacFarlane has the will to keep the show going. Perhaps, he will also find the way to actually do so.

Live-Action Jetsons Movie Taking Flight With A Head-Scratching Actor-Director Duo

Though it may seem odd at first glance, one can see why Trevorrow and Carrey would be an appealing pairing to Warner Bros. Trevorrow directed "Jurassic World," one of the highest-grossing movies of all time. He also helmed 2022's "Jurassic World Dominion" which, despite lousy reviews, still crossed the $1 billion mark. The man has proved that he knows how to bring a franchise back from the dead. His other credits include the acclaimed "Safety Not Guaranteed" and the maligned flop "The Book of Henry." As for Carrey, he's a superstar whose films have grossed over $6 billion globally. While he was at one point threatening retirement, he's revived his star power in a big way thanks to his involvement in the $1 billion "Sonic the Hedgehog" franchise. Carrey has played the evil Dr. Robotnik in all three films thus far, with "Sonic 4" currently in development. While certain viewers might question Trevorrow's prowess in light of some of his misfires, Warner Bros. cares primarily about a director's ability to bring in an audience. Trevorrow had done that, which is why he was also the original choice to direct "Star Wars: Episode IX." Pairing him with a guy like Carrey, with this material, does make business sense on paper. The original "Jetsons" cartoon series initially aired for three seasons on ABC, spanning 75 episodes between 1962 and 1963. Its characters have remained part of the culture through video games, comics, and movies ever since, with "Jetsons: The Movie" arriving in 1990. But can Trevorrow and Carrey make modern audiences care about this property? That is the very expensive question Warner Bros. is seeking to answer. "The Jetsons" does not currently have a release date, but stay tuned.

Indian doctors inserted tube into Raila’s respiratory system in desperate effort to save him

NAIROBI, Kenya, Oct 15 — Doctors at Devamatha Hospital in Kerala made frantic, last-ditch efforts to save former Prime Minister Raila Odinga after he collapsed during his morning walk at an Ayurvedic clinic on Wednesday morning. According to a detailed medical account from Dr. Sista Fons, a cardiologist at the hospital, Odinga was rushed to the hospital’s emergency wing at 8.20 am Indian time after collapsing at the Sreedhareeyam Ayurvedic Eye Hospital and Research Centre, located nearby, where he had been receiving wellness treatment. “Former Kenyan Prime Minister Raila Odinga was brought to our casualty emergency wing with a history of sudden collapse during his morning walk,” said Dr. Fons. “They had already started CPR. His doctor and security personnel were with him.” Dr. Fons said the hospital’s medical team immediately took over the resuscitation efforts. “We continued CPR and performed emergency intubation — inserting a tube into the respiratory system — and continued CPR along with other resuscitative measures,” she said. Despite the team’s intensive efforts, Odinga had no pulse or measurable blood pressure upon arrival. He was moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), where doctors briefly detected a heart rhythm. “After stabilizing him with IV fluids, we administered an injection to dissolve any possible clot in the coronary arteries,” Dr. Fons explained. Diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease She added that the team observed significant swelling in Odinga’s lower right leg and learned from his personal physician that he had a history of diabetes, hypertension, and chronic kidney disease. Odinga had previously been treated for deep vein thrombosis (DVT) in the same leg and had an inferior vena cava (IVC) filter inserted. Just days earlier, doctors had identified a small subdural hematoma — bleeding beneath the skull. “Recently, he had a thin subdural hematoma, which was detected last Saturday,” the cardiologist said. “After consulting with a neurosurgeon in the ICU, we proceeded with a thrombolytic injection and continued CPR from 8:00 a.m. at the other hospital until 9:52 a.m. in our ICU, but unfortunately, we could not revive him.” “We are very sorry to inform that he is no more. Our very sincere condolences and prayers go out to his family and to the people of Kenya,” Dr. Fons added. Indian police confirmed to AFP that Odinga was walking with his sister, daughter, and personal doctor at the Ayurvedic clinic when he suddenly collapsed. The body of the 80-year-old statesman is set to be transported to Mumbai, where a Kenyan delegation led by Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi — currently en route to India — will accompany him back home ahead of his burial on Sunday at his Bondo home in Siaya County.
