India’s Ambassador to Washington Vinay Mohan Kwatra met US Deputy Secretary of Energy James Danly, and discussed energy security partnership between the two countries. The meeting came in the backdrop of the proposed bilateral trade deal between India and the US, which, according to an official, is “very near” to concluding. “We are very near as far as the deal is concerned,” the official had said on Friday.Kwatra in a social media post on Saturday said he had a “fruitful discussion” with Danly on the “India-US energy security partnership as both of them shared their perspectives on recent developments in energy trade and ties”.Kwatra also met with Lockheed Martin CEO Jim Taiclet. The ambassador said the two had a “productive discussion” on the India-US industrial cooperation and how US defence companies have a key role to play in New Delhi's ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat' goals.Earlier on Thursday, Kwatra hosted Republican Senator from Tennessee Bill Hagerty and his wife Chrissy Hagerty at his residence. “Discussed various facets of our bilateral partnership, including ongoing talks on a mutually beneficial trade deal,” Kwatra said in a post on X.In February this year, leaders of the two countries had directed officials to negotiate a proposed Bilateral Trade Agreement (BTA). They have fixed a deadline to conclude the first tranche of the pact by the fall (October-November) of 2025. Liverpool slump continues with loss at Brentford

Brentford's Brazilian striker Igor Thiago (left) scores their third goal from the penalty spot during the English Premier League football match between Brentford and Liverpool. (AFP pic) LONDON: Champions Liverpool suffered a fourth successive Premier League defeat as they lost 3-2 at Brentford yesterday to continue their miserable run of form in the capital. Arne Slot's stumbling side fell behind after five minutes when Dango Ouattara volleyed in following a long throw and Kevin Schade went through to make it 2-0 in the 45th. Milos Kerkez replied for the visitors in first-half stoppage time with his first Liverpool goal from Conor Bradley's cross. Liverpool's expected second-half siege never really materialised, however, and Igor Thiago restored Brentford's two-goal advantage from the penalty spot on the hour mark. Mohamed Salah gave Liverpool hope with a clinical finish in the 89th minute but they had left it too late. It is the first time since 2021 that Liverpool have lost four successive league games, with three of those matches in London after defeats at Crystal Palace and Chelsea. They are now sixth in the table on 15 points, four behind leaders Arsenal who could extend that margin on Sunday when they host Crystal Palace. Brentford's second win in a row moved them up to 10th place, two points behind Liverpool. Brentford fans taunt Slot The home fans took delight in taunting Liverpool manager Arne Slot with chants of "you're getting sacked in the morning" and while the Dutchman need not worry about that, the sense of his side's title defence wilting was palpable. They looked fragile at the back, were often out-muscled by Brentford and doubts about Salah's lack of impact will continue despite him slamming home a fine late goal to end a more than month long scoreless run in the Premier League. Brentford's threat from long throws could not have escaped Slot's attention but his side were caught cold by the tactic on a chilly night in south west London. Michael Kayode wound up a long delivery into the box and when Kristoffer Ajer flicked it on Ouattara reacted superbly to hook his volley past Giorgi Mamardashvili. Liverpool responded with chances for Florian Wirtz and Cody Gakpo but they were not convincing and were undone again as halftime loomed. Mikkel Damsgaard's superb long pass sent Schade away and he kept his composure to beat Mamardashvili. Kerkez fired home from close range in the fifth minute of stoppage time despite fierce Brentford protests about an infringement. Brentford earned a penalty when Virgil Van Dijk clipped the foot of Ouattara on edge of the area and after a long VAR check referee Tim Robinson awarded a spot-kick, and Thiago coolly slotted his shot down the middle. Salah's instant control and finish set up a chaotic period of stoppage time that took the game into its 100th minute but Brentford held on for a thoroughly-deserved three points.

A game jam game about pudgy chainsmoking dads seems to be Steam's latest co-op hit, hitting 100,000 concurrent players on its first weekend

It's a landmark year for the proximity-based voice chat party game. Mage Arena and R.E.P.O. have joined the likes of Lethal Company and Content Warning as wildly successful entrants into the nascent style—and genre superlative Peak made it comfortably into PC Gamer's Top 100 this year. Players are clearly itching for more, as evidenced by new kid on the block RV There Yet?'s rapid rise to 100,000 concurrent players. It's just started to dip as I write this, according to SteamDB. PC Gamer features producer Mollie Taylor was among that player count earlier this week, and in her impressions said "things are a little janky right now" but "the whole thing is darn fun." It's a physics-based adventure game where a bunch of pudgy dads haul a camper through perilous crags with a remote-operated winch, avoid getting eaten by bears, and exhale enough cigarette smoke to conceal a marching army. It's released to warm reception on Steam, with user reviews stabilizing at a "Very Positive" rating. The store page's top-rated review, by user LeGrandOptimist, reads "Fix RV. Smoke cig. Get mauled. Peak gaming." Another review by Steam user Bulldoge noted "Great game, especially the part where I can smoke and drink while driving an RV and not be jailed by the police." It looks like a goofy game, to be sure, but the screenshots showing an RV suspended between two cliff ledges by physics-based ropes has me curious about how involved the puzzles get. Developer Nuggets Entertainment has already put out multiple blog posts thanking the burgeoning community for its support and rolling out fixes. "First of all, we want to thank everyone for the enormous support. Our 8-week game jam game exceeded all expectations," reads a Steam update post from Thursday. Another from Friday said, "It's amazing to see everyone playing the game, and we are trying to sort through the issues as fast as we can." "We have been investigating the crashes, and even if we haven't solved them yet, we have gotten some progress. We haven't forgotten those of you that are crashing." If you're keen to give the game a shot, it's available on Steam.

Goals from Dango Ouattara, Kevin Schade and Igor Thiago inflicted a fourth straight loss on Arne Slot’s increasingly rattled Reds. Milos Kerkez pulled one back and Mohamed Salah ended his recent goal drought, but the champions are still in the doldrums with summer signings Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike quiet again on a tough night for the champions. Liverpool are now down in seventh, behind Bournemouth, Manchester United and Sunderland among others, and could find themselves seven points adrift of leaders Arsenal by the end of the weekend. Michael Kayode’s delivery was nodded on by Kristoffer Ajer at the near post and Ouattara got ahead of Kerkez to hook the ball home. Salah’s first chance arrived courtesy of Cody Gakpo’s through-ball, but his touch was heavy and former Reds team-mate Caoimhin Kelleher was out quickly to smother the ball at his feet. Wirtz should have scored 20 minutes in after Ekitike’s back-heel ricocheted in front of him, but the German screwed his shot wide from 12 yards. Brentford grew more adventurous and Jordan Henderson, playing against the team he captained to the title for the first time since he left in 2023, almost doubled his current side’s lead with a 20-yard drive which flew inches wide. Advertisement Henderson’s midfield partner Mikkel Damsgaard, then went even closer with his curling effort tipped over the crossbar by Giorgi Mamardashvili. The second goal arrived in the 45th minute, just moments after Gakpo had a pretty strong case for a penalty turned down following a challenge from Nathan Collins. Wirtz lost the ball in midfield and Damsgaard played the perfect defence-splitting pass to Schade, who showed Ibrahima Konate a clean pair of heels before finishing past Mamardashvili. However, Liverpool grabbed a lifeline in stoppage time when Conor Bradley’s cross was lashed home by fellow full-back Kerkez. But referee Simon Hooper may well have added some more time on for the interminable delays at every Brentford throw. After the break Virgil Van Dijk clipped Ouattara on the edge of the box and referee Tim Robinson – on as a sub for Hooper – gave a free-kick. But a VAR check showed the contact was on the line, a penalty was awarded and Thiago did the rest. Offense goes cold, quirky Bruins goals costly in Avalanche’s first regulation loss of season

BOSTON — It’s a long season in the NHL, but circumstances can change pretty quickly. The Colorado Avalanche came to TD Garden as the last remaining team in the league without a loss in regulation. The Avs left in their first mini-funk of the season. This Saturday afternoon started well, but ended with a 3-2 loss to the Boston Bruins. Colorado (5-1-3) has now lost three games in a row (0-1-2) and heads down I-95 for a Sunday matinee with the top team in the Eastern Conference — the New Jersey Devils. “It was frustrating because we had a good start but couldn’t extend the lead,” Avs coach Jared Bednar said. “The goal at the end of the second period is a killer. … You make a couple just really quick mistakes trying to do the right thing, and it ends up in the back of your net. “Ends up being a close game, but we’ve got to try and capitalize on our chances a little bit better than we did and can’t have any of those sort of mental lapses.” Artturi Lehkonen had both of Colorado’s goals, but the second came with 19.2 seconds left on a re-direction of Nathan MacKinnon’s shot. Scott Wedgewood made his ninth straight start to open the season. He allowed two goals on four shots in the first period after being pulled for the first time two days prior against the Carolina Hurricanes, and finished with 16 saves. The first and third Boston goals were quirky, but he wanted at least one of them back. “Two of those goals, you just want to break your stick over a post and yell at yourself,” Wedgewood said. “Either one of those stay out of the net and we’re tying it up late and going to overtime. The boys have bailed me out a couple times this year, and unfortunately, I cost them that one.” While the power play scored once to salvage a point against the Hurricanes, it continues to not produce at the level expected. Since scoring a power-play goal in each of the first three games this season, the Avs are now 1 for 22 in the past six contests. “If you had asked me that question a couple days ago, I’d say a lot (is wrong),” MacKinnon said. “But I thought tonight it was actually pretty good. Val had some great looks. The other unit had some really good looks. … We had like 10 seconds on the third one, it’s going to say 0-for-3, but it was really 0-for-2 with some good looks.” It wasn’t just struggles on the power play in this one. Colorado generated plenty of shots on goal and controlled the time of possession for the vast majority of this contest. All that time in the offensive zone didn’t generate as many Grade-A chances as Colorado typically would at even strength, and Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman didn’t have many tough saves to make. The Avalanche dominated the run of play for nearly 14 minutes in the first period and took the lead. By the time 15 minutes were complete, the Avs were trailing. Mason Lohrei’s shot from the left point was off target, and then Viktor Arvidsson tried to jam it past Wedgewood at the left post. That didn’t work, so Arvidsson collected the puck behind the net and threw it off the goalie’s back for a bank shot goal at 14:16. “He just gets the puck back and unfortunately, I can’t go anywhere,” Wedgewood said. “It’s like, you know what is happening, but you can’t really do anything to defend it.” That tied the score. Littleton native Mikey Eyssimont put Boston in front 37 seconds later. Avs defenseman Sam Malinski tried to rush forward and keep the puck in the offensive zone, but he missed it, and that gave the Bruins a 2-on-1 the other way. Eyssimont buried a one-timer from Tanner Jeannot at 14:53. Bednar said everyone on the ice did the right thing on that play, but the puck just bounced over Malinski’s stick. Colorado had 10 of the first 11 shots on goal before Arvidsson scored. The Avs also took the lead at 4:26 of the first. MacKinnon took the puck off the wall behind the Boston net and snapped a backhanded pass to Lehkonen for a one-timer and a pretty goal. Wedgewood had a strong second period. He made several big saves, particularly during the one part of the 40 minutes where it felt like Boston actually controlled the play. But then, after several minutes of Colorado-centric offensive action, Boston scored again on a counter-attack. This one came with only 4.5 seconds left in the second. Morgan Geekie beat Josh Manson in a race to the puck after Boston’s David Pastrnak deflected it into the Avs zone from near center ice. Geekie picked the puck up near the left post and acted like he was going behind the net. That fooled Manson and Wedgewood. Manson went to the right and lost an edge. Wedgwood started to slide to his left, just as Geekie decided to cut back and stuff the puck inside the near post for a goal. The Avs got one back in the final minute, but it was too little, too late. “We could have won every single one of these games,” Wedgewood said. “I know it’s a results-driven business, but you look at some of these games and maybe you want to take one period out, but otherwise there’s 40 minutes of perfect hockey. “I think when you break it all down and look at it, we could be undefeated. We could have even more points than we do with the overtime losses we’ve had. But, obviously, with the way this room is built and the mindset here, we believe we can achieve more.” Want more Avalanche news? Sign up for the Avalanche Insider to get all our NHL analysis.

Youth making mark for CU Buffs football

At this time last year, Quentin Gibson was enjoying a sensational season at North Crowley High School in Texas. London Merritt and Alexander McPherson were starring at IMG Academy in Florida last fall. That trio is part of a big group of young players making an impact for the Colorado Buffaloes this season. While the Buffs, who play at Utah on Saturday, aren’t in a full-on youth movement, there’s no question youth is a key to their success. “We’re just trying to represent for the upperclassmen and in high school, coming in to show that they can be a big impact for our team,” said Merritt, who earned his first career start when the Buffs beat then-No. 22 Iowa State on Oct. 11. “So, definitely us younger classmen, being on the field, Alex, Quentin, all the freshmen that’s doing their thing, is definitely showing that it’s definitely possible for freshmen to be a big impact in college football.” Of the 103 players on the roster, the Buffs have 37 seniors, including 33 that are in their final year of eligibility. That group includes several key players, such as quarterback Kaidon Salter; offensive linemen Zy Crisler, Xavier Hill and Zarian McGill; defensive ends Keaten Wade and Arden Walker; linebackers Jeremiah Brown and Reginald Hughes; and several others. Youth, however, is stepping up. CU brought 72 players to Utah, 17 of them in their first or second year of college. Four other key players are third-year sophomores. A look at the first- or second-year players filling key roles for the Buffs: WR Quanell Farrakhan Jr., Fr.: Still waiting for his first career catch, but the true freshman has played at least 10 offensive snaps in four games. WR Quentin Gibson, Fr.: The MaxPreps national player of the year in 2024, Gibson has had more of an impact as a returner than on offense. He is second in the country with 427 kickoff return yards. On offense, he’s caught nine passes for 43 yards. DE Alexander McPherson, Fr.: After playing only on special teams in the opener, he’s played least 21 defensive snaps in five straight games. He’s posted 13 tackles, half a sack, five QB hurries and a blocked punt. DE London Merritt, Fr.: He’s appeared in every game on defense, including his start against Iowa State. For the season, he’s recorded 11 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a QB hurry. RB/WR Kam Mikell, Fr.: After redshirting last year, Mikell has played mainly special teams this year, but he’s been moved to running back and the Buffs love his potential out of the backfield. He had five carries for six yards against Iowa State. RB/WR Dre’Lon Miller, Soph.: He hasn’t had the season expected of him, but he still is a big part of the offense when healthy. He’s caught 11 passes for 95 yards and a touchdown and has 16 rushing attempts for 69 yards and a score. LT Jordan Seaton, Soph.: The top-rated high school lineman in the 2024 recruiting class, Seaton has been exceptional. He’s one of the nation’s top-rated pass blockers on Pro Football Reference and has started all 20 games of his career. RB Micah Welch, Soph.: He’s started all season for the Buffs and leads the team with 277 rushing yards. He’s also scored two touchdowns and is averaging 4.5 yards per carry. WR Joseph Williams, Soph.: Transfer from Tulsa, where he was the AAC freshman of the year in 2024, he leads CU with 24 catches and is second with 370 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Safety Tawfiq Byard is leading a group of third-year sophomores. He’s got a team-high 51 tackles, 3.5 tackles for loss and an interception. Cornerbacks RJ Johnson and Makari Vickers and receiver Isaiah Hardge are also in key roles when healthy. Under head coach Deion Sanders, the Buffs have been known for building through the transfer portal, but the staff’s high school recruiting has been exceptional, too. This year’s freshman class includes not only Gibson, McPherson and Merritt, but five-star quarterback JuJu Lewis, a pair of highly-touted offensive linemen, and several others on defense. “We all have that same mindset of being a dawg, wanting to come in and play and try to reach that freshman All-American goal. And that’s it,” Merritt said. “We all just have that same dawg mentality. “It’s kind of like we are (the foundation). It’s good to know that we’re the foundation because we are here to build and just setting a prime example for other freshmen coming in that you’re gonna have to work to get on the field and when you get on the field, you got to do your thing.”

Annoh-Dompreh Celebrates 48th Birthday by Donating Medical Equipment to Nsawam Government Hospital

Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament (MP) for Nsawam-Adoagyiri, Frank Annoh-Dompreh, has donated medical equipment together with a cash amount to the Nsawam Government Hospital located in his constituency to mark his 48th Birthday. The MP, whose birthday is 25 October, instead of hosting a party or a grand celebration, chose to donate vital medical equipment and financial support, particularly to the hospital’s Maternity Unit, through his loyal support group, the Friends of Annoh-Dompreh (FAD). Kind gesture As part of the kind gesture, Mr Annoh-Dompreh’s team presented cash donations to 100 nursing mothers at the Nsawam Government Hospital. The presentations were delivered on the MP’s behalf by the leadership of his constituency, as he is currently out of the jurisdiction. Ahead of the donation, the Friends of Annoh-Dompreh held a health walk from the Nsawam Mobile Junction to the Nsawam Government Hospital. Several constituents of Nsawam-Adoagyiri participated in the health walk, accompanied by brass band music and dancing. Receiving the items on behalf of the hospital, Madam Jenette Nyaning Kessie, a Senior Midwife and Second-in-Charge at the Maternity Unit, expressed profound gratitude to Annoh-Dompreh for his continuous support over the years. She noted that the MP has remained one of the hospital’s most reliable benefactors, often stepping in to provide resources and help meet the emergency needs of the government hospital. In her remarks, Madam Jenette Nyaning Kessie observed that there is a growing challenge at the Nsawam Government Hospital that needs urgent attention. The challenge, she said, has to do with severe congestion at the maternity ward, which has resulted in pregnant women often struggling to find beds. Madam Kessie, to this end, took the opportunity to appeal to the government to help complete the new Maternity Block, a project initiated by Annoh-Dompreh that is currently about 70% complete. She stressed that once completed, the block would significantly ease pressure on the existing ward and improve healthcare delivery for mothers and babies. The Nsawam Government Hospital serves not only residents of Nsawam-Adoagyiri but also nearby communities in the Eastern Region, making it one of the busiest public hospitals in the Municipality. Over the years, Annoh-Dompreh has supported the hospital with renovations, medical supplies, and financial aid, reinforcing his commitment to improving healthcare and community welfare. Profile of Annoh-Dompreh In the dynamic realm of Ghanaian politics, marked by commitment and foresight, one individual stands out as a symbol of progress and change.
