Chicago community outraged over viral video of mom and kids getting jumped by grade-school children

Residents of a Chicago suburb are calling for action after a viral video on social media showed a mother and her two children getting attacked by a gang of schoolchildren. 33-year-old Corshawnda Hatter was walking with her son and daughter on South Bensley Avenue in the South Deering neighborhood on Monday at about 3 p.m. when they were attacked. They were walking home from Orville Bright Elementary School at the time. 'It’s been an ongoing thing in this community, and the parents don’t take accountability for anything their kids do.' The video shows the children laughing and mocking the mother and children before cornering them against a chain-link fence. Hatter tries to protect her children before the attackers begin punching her and drag her to the ground, where she is kicked and beaten. The video lasts about two minutes. Hatter and her son were treated at a hospital for injuries sustained in the attack. On Tuesday, dozens of people showed up at the school demanding accountability and calling for students to be expelled. Hatter described what happened to her at the impromptu gathering. "I asked my kids to come to the next side of the street with me, so they wouldn’t get jumped," she recalled. "So we kept walking. They followed us all the way," she added. "And then they fought my son and hit my son first. … Then they dragged me in the grass and pulled my little baby’s hair out." She said she had a meeting with school officials about the incident. Others told WGN-TV that the students had been terrorizing the neighborhood but that parents were to blame. "It’s been an ongoing thing in this community, and the parents don’t take accountability for anything their kids do," said one parent. "If my kids were being messy, I’m going to come out here and let it be known. I’m going to shut it down." Chicago Public Schools released a statement offering few details. "We are horrified by the attack on this family, and we are working collaboratively with city departments and agencies to provide support to the victims of the attack. CPS is coordinating closely with the Mayor’s Office, CPD, CHA, and other city departments to provide additional support to the family," read the statement in part. "School administrators, teachers, and support staff work with students to create an open environment where conflicts and grievances can be addressed." RELATED: Connecticut police investigate allegedly racially motivated beating of high school student after brutal video goes viral Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson reacted on social media and called the attack "unacceptable" in a long statement saying he was deeply disturbed by the incident. Hatter said outside the school that her son had been previously bullied by students. "I’m trying to get justice for my son," she said. "And you deserve it!" a supporter responded. CPD said no arrests had been made but that the department had increased the police presence at the school — for the rest of the week. Like Blaze News? Jamie Raskin Gives Shameful Defense of Democratic Colleague's Collusion With Epstein

Democrat Representative Jamie Raskin (MD-8) just gave what possibly could be the most disgusting and most shameful defense for his colleague, Del. Stacey Plaskett (D-VI), who colluded with Jeffrey Epstein during a congressional hearing about President Donald Trump in 2019. During proceedings on the House floor on Tuesday, the House considered a resolution that would censure Plaskett following the revelation of a string of text messages between the non-voting Virgin Island delegate and the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2019. The revelation came following the latest dump of documents in relation to Epstein — obtained by the House Oversight committee from his estate. Keep in mind that at the time, he was a convicted pedophile and the allegations about him were all over the news, as RedState reported. READ MORE: Oh My: Dem Received Texts from Epstein During 2019 Congressional Hearing - and It Gets Worse Raskin spoke on Plaskett's behalf and said that she did nothing wrong when she was in communication with Epstein in the middle of the Trump hearing, taking his suggestions on questions. "Well, they want to give them another headline, which is that they've arraigned a Democratic member for taking a phone call from her constituent, Jeffrey Epstein, in the middle of a hearing. And of course I don't think there's any rule here against taking phone calls in a hearing," Raskin said. When it was Plaskett's turn, she used the same lame defense and said that Epstein was simply her constituent. The Virgin Islands is where Epstein's infamous island, Little St. James, is located. "I got a text from Jeffrey Epstein, who at the time was my constituent," Plaskett explained, "Who...was not public knowledge at that time, that he was under federal investigation, and who was sharing information with me." SEE: Humiliated Dems Forced to Delete Latest False Claim About Epstein and Trump In the end, following the debate regarding the proposed censure of Plaskett, the House opted to postpone the vote. And just what kind of information did Epstein and Plaskett share? Let's look at just what that entailed, as my colleague Nick Arama reported following the Washington Post bombshell. Arama wrote: He's texting about "RONA" [an assistant to Trump named Rhona Graff], and then Plaskett asks about her. "RONA??" Plaskett responded. "Quick I'm up next is that an acronym," she added, suggesting she would question Cohen soon."Thats his assistant," Epstein replied. Arama wrote that after Plaskett asked the question about "RONA," Epstein texted, "Good work." At 10:02 a.m., Epstein texted Plaskett: "Great outfit.""You look great," he added at 10:22 a.m. "Thanks!" she replied shortly afterward. At around 10:40 a.m., a broadcast feed cut to Plaskett, showing her moving her mouth as if she were chewing something. At 10:41 a.m., Epstein sent this message to Plaskett: "Are you chewing""Not any more," she replied. "Chewing interior of my mouth. Bad habit from middle school"At 12:50 p.m., Epstein asks: "How much longer for you""Hours. Go to other mtgs," she replied. Following the release of the Post piece, Plaskett released a statement. The comments were similar to what she said on Tuesday about how she had "received texts from staff, constituents and the public at large offering advice, support and in some cases partisan vitriol, including from Epstein." ‘We have to be creative’: Supervisors OK partnership with philanthropists to free up $13M in county budget

San Diego County will see about $13 million freed up in its next annual budget under a new partnership that supervisors approved Tuesday with the San Diego Foundation. Under the agreement, the foundation will cover $18 million of bills the county has with its social services contractors. Leaders want the partnership to bolster social safety-net programs at a time of rising food insecurity and worries over how new rules for Medicaid and food benefits will affect people in the San Diego region. “It’s very clear we cannot sit back and hope Washington comes to our rescue,” said Board of Supervisors Chair Terra Lawson-Remer, who helped craft the partnership with the foundation. “We have to be creative and collaborative and build safety nets to protect San Diego families,” she said. The county is still finalizing which contracts will be paid for by the foundation instead of the county. Lawson-Remer has said they include county support for nonprofits that deal with seniors, food access, behavioral health, homelessness and other safety-net programs. In exchange for support from the foundation, the county will contribute $4 million of the $18 million freed up in its budget to the San Diego Unity Fund, a community grant program created by the foundation in September. Taxpayers will pay an additional $900,000 to the foundation for an administrative fee for the county’s donation. The foundation has partnered with two other local philanthropic juggernauts — the Prebys Foundation and Price Philanthropies — to give tens of millions of dollars to local groups that work on access to food, health care and housing. Philanthropic leaders see threats to those needs from Republican-led legislation signed by President Donald Trump that cut funding for Medicaid and food stamps, while imposing new eligibility and work requirements for some people who use the programs. On Tuesday, Lawson-Remer’s proposed agreement to pair private money with public services got a mostly warm reception from other supervisors. Supervisor Joel Anderson, who represents much of the county’s unincorporated area, said he was backing it as a way to support communities in his district that lack access to mass transit and have household incomes far below the county median. “I trust that the foundation will take those people into consideration, and make sure the unincorporated communities are also covered,” Anderson said. Supervisors Paloma Aguirre and Monica Montgomery Steppe asked that supervisors get informal updates on how the new savings are spent and on the overall progress of the partnership. Supervisors voted 4-1 in support of the partnership, with Supervisor Jim Desmond voting against it. Desmond downplayed concerns about new work requirements for recipients of Medicaid and SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, pointing to various exemptions. For Medicaid, exemptions extend to people with children under 13, disabled veterans, people who are medically frail and Native Americans, among others. SNAP recipients are exempt if they have children or certain disabilities, or are a veteran or homeless. “These are described as devastating requirements and cuts,” he said. “I think these are good achievable goals. Those who really need the benefits will remain on them.” County estimates indicate it could still cost the county up to $300 million a year to administer the new rules, and to cover potential cost-sharing for food stamps. Ensuring SNAP recipients are employed could cost the county between $4.6 million and $27.8 million. It’s still unclear how often they’ll have to verify their employment, and therefore how many new staffers the county will need. The federal government previously covered the cost of SNAP benefits, but new cost-sharing measures passed by Congress could cost the county $150 million per year if the state doesn’t step in to absorb some of that cost. With Medi-Cal, verifying work requirements could cost between $21 million and $63 million to hire new county staff, depending on how frequently employment will need to be reported, county estimates suggest. Citing those new costs, Democratic supervisors have begun to lay the groundwork for a potential ballot measure next year to raise taxes and bring in more revenue for the county.

Venice’s newest marvel is a wild, acrobatic dolphin. His refusal to leave puts him in danger

By COLLEEN BARRY MILAN (AP) — Venice has been charmed by a recent visitor: An acrobatic, wild dolphin. The feeling appears to be mutual — he so far refuses to leave — but proximity to humans has put him in danger. The dolphin nicknamed Mimmo has been delighting tourists and Venetians for months with his acrobatic flips. Experts are now eager to move him into open water, especially after verifying wounds indicating that the dolphin had been likely hit by a boat propeller. Multiple agencies used low-intensity acoustic devices to nudge Mimmo away from the heavily trafficked St. Mark’s Basin on Saturday — and it worked briefly. But the dolphin came back within an hour, as experts feared he would. “It’s very worrying because it’s a hot spot with lots of boat traffic,’’ said Guido Pietroluongo, a veterinarian at the University of Padua’s emergency response team for stranded dolphins, whales and porpoises, known by the acronym CERT. St. Mark’s Basin, the shallow expanse of water in front of St. Mark’s Square connecting to both the Giudecca and Grand Canals, is heavily trafficked by ferries, vaporetti buses, water taxis, and private boats. During the failed operation, experts confirmed Mimmo had suffered superficial lesions, likely from a boat propeller, Pietroluongo said. It was the first time they had noted injuries to the dolphin, and his wounds are expected to fully heal. But experts are worried about his continued safety in such proximity to human activity. They don’t plan any immediate action, and are hoping that colder seasonal temperatures will lure him, and his fish prey, out of the lagoon toward warmer waters, Pietroluongo said. Mimmo’s arrival in the Venetian lagoon was registered on July 23, and experts say the coastal creature likely followed a school of fish into the brackish waters separated from the open sea by barrier islands. He was nicknamed for the sailing instructor who first spotted him off the Venetian lagoon fishing town of Chioggia. Mimmo follows the pattern of a so-called social loner, typically a young male dolphin that breaks away from the pod for food or for social reasons and then comes into contact with the human world, said Sandro Mazzariol, a CERT veterinarian. “Around 100 cases have been documented around the world in which these animals are absolutely at ease and remain healthy despite not interacting with their peers,’’ Mazzariol said in a Facebook video post. Dolphins sightings in Venice are rare but not unheard of, Mazzariol said. The most recent incident involved a pair of striped dolphins spotted in February 2021 that were quickly guided back to the open sea with acoustic devices. They never returned. Mimmo has been closely monitored during his lagoon sojourn, and has been reported in good health and nutrition as he feasts on a diet befitting any Venetian tourist: mullet, sea bass and sea bream. His behavior also has been deemed normal, including his playful aerial flips. The University of Padua team has been going out weekly to check on the animal, and they get regular updates from citizens who share sightings, including photos and videos. Authorities are warning citizens and boaters not to feed or interact with the dolphin, which is a criminal offense. Dolphins are protected under Italian, EU and international law. But the fact that Mimmo’s fame is spreading is part of the problem. “The dolphin has become an attraction. Boats stopping to watch him can stress the animal,’’ Pietroluongo said.

Israeli attack on Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon kills at least 13  - St. Vincent Tribune – Daily St

At least 13 people have been killed in an Israeli air strike on a Palestinian refugee camp in southern Lebanon, according to the Lebanese Ministry of Public Health. The drone strike hit a car on Tuesday in the car park of a mosque in the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp on the outskirts of the coastal city of Sidon, the Lebanese state-run National News Agency reported. At least four people were wounded in the attack, the ministry said, adding that “ambulances are still transporting more wounded to nearby hospitals.” Israel said it struck members of the Palestinian armed group Hamas who were operating in a training compound in the refugee camp. “When we say we will not tolerate any threat on our northern border, this means all terrorist groups operating in the region,” the Israeli military’s Arabic spokesperson Avichay Adraee said in a statement. “We will continue to act forcefully against Hamas’s attempts to establish a foothold in Lebanon and eliminate its elements that threaten our security.” Hamas denied Israel’s claim, calling it a “fabrication” and stressing the group doesn’t have training facilities in Lebanon’s refugee camps. “The Zionist bombardment was a barbaric aggression against our innocent Palestinian people as well as Lebanon’s sovereignty,” it said in a statement. Earlier on Tuesday, Lebanon said Israeli strikes on cars elsewhere in the country’s south killed two people. Israel has killed several officials from Palestinian factions including Hamas in Lebanon since it launched its war on Gaza in October 2023 after Hamas led an attack on southern Israel Israel’s war on Gaza has killed at least 69,483 Palestinians and wounded 170,706. A total of 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7, 2023, Hamas-led attacks, and more than 200 were taken captive. A day after Israel launched its war on Gaza, Hezbollah began firing rockets towards Israel, which responded with shelling and air strikes in Lebanon, and the two sides became locked in a conflict that Israel escalated into a full-blown war in late September 2024. Israel’s war killed more than 4,000 people in Lebanon, including hundreds of civilians. In Israel, 127 people were killed, including 80 soldiers. The war halted in late November 2024 with a United States-brokered ceasefire, but since then, Israel has carried out dozens of air attacks on Lebanon, accusing Hezbollah of trying to rebuild its capabilities. Lebanon’s Health Ministry has reported more than 270 people killed and about 850 wounded by Israeli military actions since the ceasefire. “There are daily violations of the ceasefire by Israel in Lebanon, and it would be unfair at this stage to pin the blame on the Lebanese government,” Lebanese political analyst Karim Emile Bitar told Al Jazeera. “The Lebanese government went above and beyond what was required … and took a historic decision to ask the Lebanese army to disarm Hezbollah.” However, Bitar said, Israel has not lived up to its end of the bargain. Under the terms of the ceasefire signed on November 27, 2024, Israel was meant to withdraw its forces from southern Lebanon by January 26, a deadline it missed.

Congress passes bill to release ‘Epstein files’, sending measure to Trump  - St. Vincent Tribune – Daily St

The United States Congress has approved a bill to release government documents related to sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, clearing the way for making the files public. The House of Representatives adopted the measure in a 427-1 vote on Tuesday, sending it to the Senate, which swiftly agreed to pass it by unanimous consent even before it was formally transmitted to the chamber. Once the bill is formally approved, it will go to the desk of President Donald Trump, who said he would sign it into law. The case of Epstein – a financier who sexually abused girls and young women for years – has sparked intrigue in the US for years, given his connections to powerful people in the media, politics and academia, including ties to Trump. Trump initially opposed releasing the files, calling the controversy around the late sex offender a “hoax” before reversing course this month. The president and his Department of Justice do not need to wait for Congress to pass the legislation to release the files. They have the authority to make them public. Before the vote on Tuesday, members of Congress who have been leading the bill – Democrat Ro Khanna and Republicans Thomas Massie and Marjorie Taylor Greene – spoke alongside survivors of Epstein’s abuse outside the US Capitol. “We fought the president, the attorney general, the FBI director, the speaker of the House and the vice president to get this win. They’re on our side today, so let’s give them some credit as well,” Massie told reporters. Jena-Lisa Jones, one of the survivors, held up a photo of herself when she was 14 – the age when she met Epstein. “I was a child. I was in ninth grade. I was hopeful for life and what the future had held for me. He stole a lot from me,” she said. Epstein first pleaded guilty to charges of solicitation of prostitution with a minor in 2008. He served 13 months in a minimum-security prison and was allowed to leave for 12 hours a day to work. Critics said the punishment did not match the severity of the offence. After the Miami Herald investigated the prosecution against Epstein, federal authorities reopened the case against him, arrested him and charged him with sex trafficking of minors in 2019. Two months later, he was found dead in his jail cell in New York City. His death was ruled a suicide. Epstein’s associates over the years included former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, the United Kingdom’s Prince Andrew and former US President Bill Clinton. Even after his first conviction, Epstein continued to have close personal relationships with influential figures, including former Harvard University President Larry Summers, who recently apologised for maintaining ties to the sex offender. On Tuesday, Trump lashed out at an ABC News reporter who quizzed him about why he would not release the files on his own, stressing that Epstein was a major donor for Democratic politicians. “You just keep going on the Epstein files. And what the Epstein is is a Democrat hoax,” the US president said. Earlier in the day when asked why Trump would not make the documents public, Massie said Epstein’s connections were above partisan politics. “I believe he’s trying to protect friends and donors. And by the way, these aren’t necessarily Republicans,” Massie said. “Once you get to a billion dollars, you see, you transcend parties.”

Why Is Nicki Minaj Singing Donald Trump’s Praises?  - St. Vincent Tribune – Daily St Vincent And The

News Americas, NY, NY, Tues. Nov. 17, 2025: Trinidad and Tobago–born rapper Nicki Minaj shocked many more today, publicly praising President Donald Trump and thanking him from the podium of the United Nations Headquarters. Her appearance — the first time a female rapper has addressed the UN — instantly raised eyebrows across the Caribbean, the African Diaspora and the immigrant and music world. But Minaj’s sudden embrace of Trump is rooted in one specific issue: what she sees as the “persecution” of Christians in Nigeria. The megastar spoke softly but firmly during a four-minute address ahead of a panel titled “Combating Religious Violence and the Killing of Christians in Nigeria.” She thanked Trump “for prioritizing this issue,” claiming Christians in Nigeria are being killed “simply because of how they pray.” Her comments echoed Trump’s own narrative. And that is precisely where the controversy lies. According to reporting by TIME, Minaj’s participation was arranged by Trump adviser Alex Bruesewitz. Before she took the podium, UN Ambassador Mike Waltz thanked her for being willing to “demand action” on behalf of Christians. This follows a recent pattern: Minaj has repeatedly amplified Trump’s messaging online, including: • reposting a Truth Social message claiming Christianity faces an “existential threat” in Nigeria• sharing a White House pro-MAGA video soundtracked by her own hit “Beez In the Trap”• promoting a xenophobic and anti-trans video praising Trump’s achievements — a move that cost her more than 100,000 followers In each instance, Minaj publicly aligned herself with Trump’s framing of Nigeria’s violence as a one-sided religious war. Research indicates otherwise. Independent data from the Armed Conflict Location & Event Data Project, (ACLED) and the Council on Foreign Relations, shows violence in Nigeria is complex — driven by overlapping factors including: • extremist activity• criminal banditry• farmer–herder land disputes• economic insecurity• political instability Not religion alone. Experts interviewed by ABC, CNN, and Al-Jazeera agree: The violence is indiscriminate and affects both Christians and Muslims. Nigerian officials have repeatedly pushed back on the “Christians only” framing. Gimba Kakanda, Senior Special Assistant to the Nigerian President, wrote in Al-Jazeera that conflicts often “unfold along regional or community lines, not strictly religious ones.” Human rights lawyer Bulama Bukarti added that presenting the crisis as Christian persecution alone “distorts reality and inflames tensions.” Based on the timeline, three factors explain her sudden praise: Minaj has recently emphasized Christianity as central to her identity and public messaging. Trump’s narrative directly appeals to that shift. Her UN appearance was facilitated by Trump’s political team — not by the UN itself. This was a platform engineered to validate his claim. By repeating Trump’s talking points, she instantly became a megaphone for his Nigeria narrative — even though the data behind it is contested. Late in her speech, she emphasized she was “not taking sides politically.” But thanking Trump first — and exclusively — contradicted that claim. Her remarks came after Trump threatened to “invade Nigeria guns-a-blazing” to stop supposed “Islamic extremists,” despite no evidence of a religion-only genocide. Nicki Minaj — a Caribbean-born global superstar with massive influence — has now waded into one of Africa’s most misunderstood crises. Her endorsement gives Trump’s Nigeria narrative celebrity amplification, even as researchers and Nigerian leaders warn that such framing can worsen division on the ground. Whether Minaj intended to or not, she has become part of a geopolitical messaging war — one where data and politics often clash. For now, the answer to the question: “Why is Nicki Minaj singing Trump’s praises?” is clear: Because she has embraced his narrative on Nigeria – a narrative her team has not independently vetted, but which aligns with Trump’s strategy, messaging and political goals. A homeless outreach program just ended in Lemon Grove. A bigger one took its place.

A homeless outreach program just ended in Lemon Grove. A bigger one took its place.

A year-long pilot program that boosted homeless outreach in Lemon Grove found 181 individuals who lacked stable housing. Dozens were connected to services such as food benefits and behavioral health care. Nine have so far made it into permanent housing. Those numbers, which were publicly reported Tuesday to the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, provide a detailed look at the state of homelessness in one East County city and offer a final snapshot of the area before two initiatives significantly expand what aid is available. “The people moving into permanent housing — that’s a lower number,” Supervisor Monica Montgomery Steppe said from the dais on Tuesday. Nonetheless, “this pilot program added 181 individuals to that by-name list, establishing a strong foundation for future progress.” East County has long lacked many of the homeless services available in urban centers like the city of San Diego. Shelter especially can be hard to find. County officials have tried to build small homes for the homeless in Lakeside, Santee and Spring Valley, but leaders backed down after neighbors objected. The county then pivoted to installing 60 sleeping cabins in Lemon Grove, an idea that has proved so controversial that some residents are trying to recall that city’s mayor because she endorsed the effort. Those tiny homes, which are often called the Troy Street cabins, likely won’t open until 2027. In the meantime, county supervisors voted to at least expand outreach within the city. The 12-month pilot program began in October 2024. Just the fact that outreach workers were able to tally 181 homeless people is notable as the region’s annual point-in-time count, which is a more prominent method for calculating homelessness, has previously reported far lower numbers. (At the start of the year, for example, the point-in-time count noted only 110 people on Lemon Grove streets.) “I would love to see this replicated in high-need areas around the county,” Supervisor Paloma Aguirre said about the increased outreach. The program leaned heavily on county staffers and wasn’t expected to cost extra money. Yet a lack of new funds may have hampered efforts to get people under a roof. Many who did land permanent housing relied on rental aid through the Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing initiative, which is federally funded, according to county records. Officials said the region’s brutal housing market was a major obstacle to getting other residents housed. While the pilot program ended last month, it was replaced by something more robust. Lemon Grove recently received a multi-million-dollar grant from the state to ramp up outreach in encampments along State Route 94, and some of that money can go to helping homeless people pay rent. Local officials have said more than 30 individuals have already gotten permanent homes. The grant is eventually expected to house more than 100.

Gotcha: House Dem Chuy Garcia Seals Fate After Newly Surfaced Document Undercuts His Entire Argument

We've been closely following the story out of Illinois of Democrat Rep. Jesús "Chuy" Garcia (IL-04) and how his recent retirement announcement has caused a further crumbling of the party's bogus "we're the true defenders of democracy" mantra. As we've reported, Garcia, who has been in Congress since 2019, filed to run for reelection on October 27th. Since he's an incumbent, his gerrymandered district is safely blue, and he's well-liked by his fellow Democrats, no one else filed to run in the race on either side of the aisle - except for his chief of staff, Patty Garcia (no relation), who filed just minutes before the November 3rd deadline expired. Shortly afterward, Rep. Garcia announced he'd changed his mind on running for reelection, citing health and family concerns. In an interview he gave the next day explaining his decision, he shared that it was the same day he filed to run again that he got bad news about his health. READ MORE: The Spicy 'Dems in Disarray' Drama on the House Floor Pre-Shutdown Vote You Might Have Missed On the night of the vote to reopen the government (last Wednesday), Democrat Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (WA-03) put forth a privilege resolution calling on the House to condemn Rep. Garcia for essentially rigging the system, angering her fellow Democrats at a moment when they were trying to appear unified. On Monday, a vote to table the resolution failed, and on Tuesday, the House voted in favor of the "disapproval resolution," with 23 Democrats crossing the aisle to vote with Republicans (236-183-4) in what ended up being a deeply humiliating moment not just for Garcia but for Democrat House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (NY-08), who had urged his caucus to vote against it. What may have sealed Rep. Garcia's fate among those 23 Democrats, however, was a document that was reported on ahead of the vote that showed he signed his chief of staff's nominating petition two days before she filed (and three days before his formal announcement of dropping out) and that his signature was the very first one on the petition: Rep. Chuy García has denied purposely clearing a path for his chief of staff to take his seat without facing a primary, but a document filed with Illinois elections officials shows he was the first to sign her nominating petitions, days before he announced his retirement.[...]The form is dated Nov. 1, two days before the filing deadline and three days before Chuy García formally announced his retirement. Patty Garcia ultimately filed nearly 3,000 signatures to qualify for the Democratic primary ballot. The two are not related. Hilariously, one of his fellow House Democrats who voted against the resolution said one of the reasons he didn't support the resolution was because he refused to question Rep. Garcia's "progressive credentials": “Chuy García is a legend and an icon in his community. His progressive record is unmatched here. … I will not question his progressive credentials. You know, he faced a situation, a personal situation. He acted within the framework of the law,” Rep. Adriano Espaillat (D-N.Y.) said. Hmm. So, a member of Congress "acting within the framework of the law" to do what amounts to installing their handpicked successor by ensuring they have no opponents, is a "progressive credential" of which to be proud, apparently. Come to think of it, this IS Illinois we're talking about here, so it kinda makes sense... Editor’s Note: Do you enjoy RedState's conservative reporting that takes on the radical left and woke media? Romanian man in U.S. illegally installed card-skimming devices in 3 states, feds say

A Romanian man who according to court documents conspired with others to install card-skimming devices on ATMs in multiple states has been sentenced to one year in prison and is expected to be deported after his release. Danut Urseiu, 32, pleaded guilty in May in federal court in Cincinnati to a bank fraud conspiracy charge. The sentence was handed down Nov. 18. According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Cincinnati-area charges against Danut Urseiu relate to a two-week spree in early 2023, when card-reading devices were installed on nine ATMs in Cincinnati, Green Township and Liberty Township. But federal prosecutors in Michigan say Urseiu and his foreign national co-conspirators stole information from thousands of people in multiple states. The crime spree resulted in hundreds of thousands of dollars in losses. According to court documents, a card-skimmer at an ATM can collect account numbers and personal identification numbers when a person uses their card. A concealed camera above the keypad captures the PIN, to correlate the card data with the PIN. The information is then re-encoded on the magnetic strip of other cards, including gift cards, the documents say. Those fraudulent cards can be used to withdraw cash at ATMs or make purchases. When Urseiu was arrested in Royal Oak, Michigan last year, police found 62 gift cards in his pockets and another 192 gift cards in the vehicle he was driving, documents say. Man in U.S. illegally Urseiu entered the U.S. illegally in January 2023, according to court documents. In February 2023, he was seen on surveillance video in Liberty Township installing card-skimming and video devices on at least one ATM. In total, an unnamed financial institution reported more than 3,900 compromised credit card or debit card numbers at 23 ATMs, according to court documents. In March of 2023, Urseiu and several co-conspirators were arrested in Monroe County, New York for allegedly installing skimmers on ATMs in that area. Urseiu was then arrested by immigration authorities, and an immigration judge ordered him deported to Romania, court documents say. He was deported in May 2023, but approximately three months later returned to the U.S. illegally. His conviction in the Cincinnati-area case is his third since 2024. According to court documents, Urseiu was convicted in Michigan of identity theft and related state charges in May 2024. He was sentenced to 122 days. After being released, he was charged in federal court in Detroit with unlawfully re-entering the U.S. He pleaded guilty to that charge and was sentenced to 10 months in prison.

Pistons' Jaden Ivey Decision Signals Positive Shift in His Recovery

Jaden Ivey is making decent progress towards his return to the court for the Detroit Pistons. On Tuesday, there was a positive development for the young veteran guard. The Pistons assigned Ivey to the team’s NBA G League affiliate, the Motor City Cruise. “The Detroit Pistons announced today that guard Jaden Ivey has been assigned to the Motor City Cruise, the G League affiliate of the Pistons, as he continues his build up for return to play,” the Pistons wrote in an official statement. Official update on Jaden Ivey pic.twitter.com/KEYWwM7s5h— Detroit Pistons (@DetroitPistons) November 18, 2025 Since going down with an injury on January 1, Ivey has yet to make his return during the regular season for the Pistons. Over the offseason, the veteran guard was cleared to return for training camp after his fractured fibula healed. Ivey managed to play a handful of preseason games before it was announced he would have to undergo surgery for a minor knee concern. When the Pistons announced Ivey’s plans, the veteran guard was placed on a four-week timeline for his initial recovery. While his assignment to the G League doesn’t guarantee he’ll make his season debut with the Pistons as early as this week, it’s a clear sign that he’s moving in the right direction, and barring any setbacks, should be back in action soon enough. (Photo by Ezra Shaw/Getty Images) Without Ivey, the Pistons have fared well. You could say that for just about every other player who has been on the injury report, including Cade Cunningham. Despite dealing with a handful of absences recently, the Pistons have been the hottest team in the NBA. After a win over the Indiana Pacers on Monday, the Pistons hold a league-high 10-game winning streak. They are back on the court to face the Atlanta Hawks on Tuesday. With Detroit thriving, Ivey won’t have to rush back on the court. Still, his presence will be a nice boost, as he’s coming off an impressive 2024-2025 run before going down with a setback. The veteran guard played in 30 matchups, averaging 17.6 points, while shooting 46 percent from the field and 41 percent from three. He also racked up 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game.
