We are seeking two student assistants for the research area Sociology with Focus on Gender Studies lead by Einstein Strategic Professor Kathrin Zippel in the Institute for Sociology at the Free University of Berlin. Knowledge economies have been undergoing transformations through economic, social, political, technological and other global processes. Academia is considered as a site for contestation over the production of gendered knowledge and over ideas on the promotion of equality and diversity. The research unit pursues several research projects for example on how globalization (re-) configures gender inequalities and diversity by focusing on opportunities but also barriers to academic mobility. Another project focuses on the diffusion of ideas in discourses on gender and science including comparing policy reports in several English-speaking countries, the UN and the EU. The goal is to examine how demands for equality create tensions across institutions, countries, and regions of the world. The projects use mixed-methods approaches, including qualitative interviews with and documents from stakeholders and policy makers etc. Computational text analysis methods allow us to analyze gendered debates, identify the potentially gendered network structures among institutions and actors and trace the diffusion of ideas.
