Job Description

The 3D Photogrammetry & Subsurface Engraving Conversion Specialist is responsible fortransforming standard 2D images and photographs into high-quality, dense 3D polygonalmodels (specifically, OBJ files) optimized for subsurface laser engraving (SSLE) within crystaland glass. This role is the critical link between a customer’s cherished memory and the finalengraved product.Key Responsibilities2D to 3D Conversion: Execute the primary function of converting single or multiple source images (photos, artwork, blueprints) into detailed and accurate .obj files using specialized photogrammetry and 3D modeling software.Mesh Optimization for SSLE: Analyze, clean, and optimize the generated 3D meshes to ensure they are suitable for the unique physics and limitations of Subsurface LaserEngraving (SSLE). This includes density reduction, normal correction, and geometry scaling.Quality Control & Proofing: Review final OBJ models to ensure dimensional accuracy and aesthetic fidelity against the original source image, providing digital proofs to production teams or clients.Software Expertise & Workflow Development: Maintain expert proficiency in required conversion software and continually explore new tools, techniques, and workflow improvements to increase conversion speed and model quality.Troubleshooting: Address and resolve technical challenges related to image quality, complex geometry, and file compatibility issues between the modeling software and the laser engraving equipment.Required Skills and ExperienceExpert Software Knowledge (Mandatory): Demonstrated professional proficiency inone or more of the following software applications:Photogrammetry Suites: Agisoft Metashape, RealityCapture, Meshroom, or similar tools.3D Modeling/Sculpting Software: Blender, Autodesk Maya, ZBrush, or 3ds Max for cleanup and refinement.Image Editing: Adobe Photoshop or GIMP for preparing source images.File Format Mastery: Deep understanding of polygonal mesh file formats, particularly .obj and related textures/data.3D Geometry Fundamentals: Strong grasp of 3D concepts, including topology, normals, polygon density, and UV mapping.Understanding of Subsurface Engraving: Basic knowledge of how SSLE works (voxel creation within a solid material) and the specific parameters required for successful glass engraving.Portfolio: A portfolio demonstrating successful 2D-to-3D conversions, ideallyshowcasing complex subjects like faces or detailed objects
