Job Description

Job Summary: The Accountant, under the direction of the Controller, will assist in the timely and accurate preparation of the monthly financial reporting package. This role will also record business transactions, process accruals and adjustments and reconcile accounts. The Accountant must possess a degree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related field and can analyse and present numerical data in tables, spreadsheets, and forms.Responsibilities:Assist with the daily functions of the Finance team by preparing general ledger journal entries, generating financial reports, and ensuring compliance with company policies and procedures Ensure all month-end financial duties and resulting financial reporting is completed in a timely and accurate mannerRecord all business transactions, process accruals and adjustments, reconcile accountsMaintain year-end working papers and spreadsheets, and assist with preparation for any internal or external audits or independent reviews being conductedCollect, interpret, and report on financial dataCorrect errors by posting adjusting journal entriesPrepare bank reconciliationsPerform expense analysis of major accountsApprove EFT payments for timely payment of invoicesMaintain an accurate and complete trail of supporting documentation for all activitiesContribute to team effort by taking on ad-hoc projects as assigned CompetenciesAccountabilityAttention to DetailCommunicationJudgementOrganizationTime ManagementWorking Style & Character TraitsHigh attention to detail and accuracySolutions-oriented approach and strong problem solving abilitiesComfortable working in a growing and often fast-paced work environmentDesire to have an impact and make meaningful contributions to the organizationEssential Skills And RequirementsDegree or diploma in business, finance, accounting, or a related fieldMinimum 2 years accounting experienceKnowledge of accepted accounting rules, practices, and reporting requirementsAdvanced knowledge in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and financial dashboardExperience with QuickBooks or other similar accounting softwareAbility to extract data from financial systems and manipulate in ExcelExcellent problem-solving and analytical skills, along with superior attention to detailsAbility to prioritize and manage conflicting demandsHigh level of integrity and excellent work ethicAbility to work individually as well as part of a teamBasic knowledge of accounting systems, budgets, and internal controlsBlyth Academy is an equal opportunity employer.
