Accountant

We’re looking for an experienced accountant to join our small and supportive team at Lyttelsoft. Based in the heart of Lyttelton (with great views and a bakery just downstairs!), we work with a wide range of clients across different industries and pride ourselves on building long-term, valued partnerships.About the roleThis role is focused on managing a portfolio of clients and preparing tax returns for a variety of entities, including companies, trusts, partnerships, and individuals. You’ll be responsible for ensuring clients remain compliant with tax obligations while also providing clear, practical advice when needed.No two days are the same – you’ll work with multiple businesses, gaining exposure to different industries and structures, and building relationships that help support our clients’ success.This is a full-time role, but we’re open to flexible working for the right person.What you’ll be doingPreparing and reviewing income tax returnsPreparing financial statements for a range of entities (companies, trusts, partnerships, individuals)Liaising directly with clients to resolve queries and provide proactive supportEnsuring compliance with New Zealand tax legislation and reporting requirementsAssisting with tax planning and advisory work where neededWorking closely with our team to continually improve processes and client serviceWhat we’re looking forTertiary qualification in Accounting (or working towards CA/CPA)Minimum 2 years’ experience in a public practice environment, preparing tax returnsStrong technical knowledge of NZ tax and accounting principlesProficiency with accounting software (Xero experience an advantage)Excellent communication skills and confidence in dealing with clients directlyA detail-focused, proactive approach with the ability to manage multiple clients and deadlinesWhat we offerCompetitive salary and flexibility around hoursExposure to a diverse client base, giving you the chance to broaden your expertiseProfessional development and career growth opportunitiesA friendly, collaborative team environment in beautiful LytteltonAbout usLyttelsoft Limited is a boutique accounting firm that partners with a wide variety of businesses and individuals.
