This role requires strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills to manage approximately 400 cases annually, ensuring timely and fair resolutions.Key ResponsibilitiesClaim Intake & Assignment: Receive and manage claim assignments from various sources, including the company’s cargo claims portal, direct customer submissions, and internal business units. May serve as the primary contact for high-volume accounts.Documentation Management: Collect all relevant claim-related and insurance documentation (if applicable). Ensure accurate and comprehensive record-keeping of claim activities in the system, including investigation reports, reserve calculations, case notes, and settlement communications.Claims Investigation: Conduct thorough investigations by engaging directly with customers or coordinating with third-party surveyors. May oversee the transfer, salvage, or disposal of damaged cargo. Identify and pursue third-party subrogation opportunities by notifying responsible parties.Stakeholder Communication: Act as the central point of contact for customers, claimants, insurers, surveyors, salvors, and internal business stakeholders. Provide timely updates and respond to inquiries with professionalism and clarity.Legal Liability Assessment: Analyze the company’s liability for cargo loss or damage based on applicable contracts such as ocean bills of lading, shipper/carrier agreements, motor carrier contracts, and insurance policies. Accurately reserve claims within authorized financial limits and ensure prompt claim payments.Settlement Negotiation: Lead negotiations with customers, consignees, and subrogating parties to reach fair and equitable settlements. Coordinate commercial decisions with the Cargo Claims Manager and relevant business units.Litigation Oversight: Assign and manage external legal counsel for claims-related litigation. Collaborate on defense strategies and budgets, oversee discovery responses, and represent the company during mediations or trials.Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all claims handling processes adhere to applicable laws, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.Process Improvement: Continuously evaluate claims workflows to identify inefficiencies and recommend enhancements.
