It will develop writing, presentation, and other communication skills through workshops, tutoring, consultations, criticism, and other programming. The Center will also provide copywriting, editing, and proofreading services to ensure Westlake documents, websites, and publications are of the highest quality.Westlake University seeks a full-time, experienced scientific writer/editor with superb English language ability to assist faculty, staff, and students in developing their English communication skills.Job Responsibilities:1. Develop and lead workshops for university faculty, researchers, students, and staff on writing and communication.2. Editing and proofreading of English language documents, especially academic manuscripts destined for publication.3. Tutoring/consulting on English communication for university faculty and administrative staff.4. Other tasks as assigned.Qualifications:1. Demonstrated competence and experience in English scientific/technical writing and editing,2. Two or more years’ experience as an English language communication professional.3. MA or higher degree in English, Communication, Journalism, or closely related field.4. Native or near-native level English fluency.Desired:1. Familiarity with academic manuscript preparation and publishing.2. Ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese.3. Experience with international higher education institutions (e.g., teaching English or communication, Chinese/English translation).4. The journal will be published by Higher Education Press, led by Westlake University, and built with the support of all member institutions of the Alliance of Open Life Science. Vita will publish research of unusual significance and broad interest, either delivering crucial conceptual advances toward understanding intriguing and important biological questions, or presenting disruptive technical breakthroughs across all areas of life sciences and biomedicine. The journal will be led by the Co-Editors-in-Chief, Dr Yigong Shi and Dr Dangsheng Li.About the role Vita is seeking three enthusiastic, proactive, and motivated scientific editors to join us and contribute to the launch of our flagship journal. This is a unique opportunity to help shape a brand-new journal, influencing the future of science communication and establishing it as a leading voice that drives discussion and priorities across fundamental biology, as well as basic biomedical and translational research. If you are passionate about scientific publishing, eager to contribute to a high-impact journal, and excited to work in a collaborative editorial environment, we would love to hear from you.Job Responsibilities:1) Under the guidance of the Editor-in-Chief, handle all aspects of manuscript processing, including but not limited to evaluating submissions, managing the peer-review process, and commissioning/editing review articles.2) Collaborate closely with the Vita editorial family and the global scientific community to advance the journal’s mission.3) Attend and co-organize conferences and meetings, and visit research institutions to foster professional connections with experts in the field.Qualifications: 1) PhD degree in any area of biology or biomedicine.2) Genuine passion for science and scientific publishing, with a consistent eagerness to learn more.3) Broad scientific curiosity and the ability to think critically across diverse research areas.4) Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.5) Responsible, proactive, team-oriented, and self-motivated.6) Previous editorial experience is not required, as full training will be provided.
