About LihirOur Lihir Operation, located on the beautiful island of Niolam, approximately 800km north of Papua New Guinea's capital, Port Moresby, is one of the world’s largest gold mines. Set within a geothermically active, extinct volcanic crater, Lihir operates an open-pit mine producing refractory ore, which undergoes pressure oxidation and conventional leaching to recover gold. Our workforce includes both residential and commute rosters, creating a diverse and dynamic team. Lihir offers a range of recreational facilities, including a gym, sports club, restaurant, bar, swimming pool, tennis and squash courts, and a 9-hole golf course.

PurposeAt Newmont, our people power our success. We are seeking a skilled Trainer – Power & Utilities (P&U) to deliver world-class training that supports safe, reliable, and productive operations at our Lihir site. What You’ll DoAs a Trainer – P&U, you will play a vital role in building workforce capability by: Developing and delivering technical training for Electrical & Mechanical & Operations aligned with Newmont and industry standards.

Facilitating inductions, hazard awareness, and job-specific training for employees and contractors. Delivering theory and on-the-job training across power generation, distribution, and utilities maintenance. Assessing workforce competency through skills assessments, observations, and certification. Partnering with Supervisors & Superintendents to identify skill gaps and tailor training programsCoaching and mentoring employees to strengthen technical expertise and career growth. Embedding safety standards, hazard management, and learnings from incidents into training. Updating and maintaining accurate training content and compliance records in SharePoint & LMS. Collaborating with external stakeholders (MRA, DHERST, vendors) to ensure VET and compliance requirements are met.

Preparing training resources (PPE, tools, materials) and identifying opportunities for cost-effective delivery. What We’re Looking ForProven records of minimum years of work experience in an industrial environment (Electrical, Mechanical, or Operational SME,Supervisor, Trainer, or P&U Specialist). Certificate III in Training & Assessment (or equivalent). Proven ability in training program design, delivery, and competency assessment. Excellent facilitation, coaching, and communication skills. Strong understanding of adult learning principles, VET processes & safety standards. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint & learning management systems. Working ConditionsWillingness to work a 22: 20 FIFO roster. Ability to complete a pre-employment medical assessment.

Must provide a valid Police Clearance issued within the last six months.
