In this role, you’ll work primarily on-site to collect and analyze data, run experiments, assemble and maintain farming systems, and troubleshoot technical or biological issues as they arise.The ideal candidate brings a background in plant science, agritech, or engineering—but above all, a willingness to learn and grow with us. You’ll take on day-to-day supervised maintenance and plant care across our vertical farming systems, ensuring crops are thriving and producing high-quality yields.This is a highly hands-on position in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities can shift daily. If you’re someone who loves problem-solving, learning new technology, and working with plants, you’ll fit right in.Key ResponsibilitiesFarm Operations & System MaintenancePerform daily care of crops, including watering, nutrient (EC) monitoring, pruning, and removing dead plant matter to ensure healthy plant growth.Monitor plant health closely for signs of pests, diseases, or pathogens, and assist in implementing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) strategies.Manage seed germination, seedling transplanting, and microgreen production, ensuring proper setup, stock preparation, and tracking growth progress.Conduct harvests, packaging, and delivery preparation to meet quality and freshness standards.Maintain vertical farming systems—troubleshoot and repair equipment, perform routine cleaning, and set up new systems as required.Research & DevelopmentCollect and analyze data from germination trials, crop performance metrics, and environmental conditions to support ongoing R&D projects.Assist in lab work, including nutrient testing, sample collection, and controlled experiments.Collaborate on system optimization and automation efforts, contributing to continuous improvement across hardware and software.Work closely with the CEO, CTO, and cross-disciplinary teams to test and refine novel agricultural techniques and sustainability innovations.Product Development & Operations SupportSupport the creation of value-added products such as pesto, teas, or dried herbs using SkyAcres-grown produce.Help with buyer outreach, sample drop-offs, and building relationships with prospective partners.Maintain and update internal germination and yield tracking systems for data accuracy and operational efficiency.Contribute to inventory management, organization, and general workspace upkeep, including occasional office maintenance.Participate in daily team meetings to align on priorities and share updates.Qualifications & SkillsEducation & Experience: Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Agriculture Technology, Plant Science, Biology, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent hands-on experience in farming or agritech will also be considered.Driver’s License: A valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) and access to reliable transportation are required for travel between sites and deliveries.Technical Skills: Experience with vertical farming, hydroponics, or controlled environment agriculture is an asset.Plant & System Knowledge: Strong understanding of plant care, nutrient management (EC/pH), and system maintenance.Analytical Skills: Ability to collect and interpret crop and environmental data; familiarity with tools like Excel, Google Sheets, or data visualization software (Python or R is a plus).Problem-Solving: Capable of identifying and troubleshooting mechanical, biological, or environmental issues independently.Lab & Experimentation Experience: Comfortable with scientific procedures, sample collection, and maintaining clean, controlled workspaces.Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and a team-oriented mindset to work effectively with engineers, biologists, and leadership.Adaptability: Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities evolve quickly.Passion & Purpose: Deep interest in sustainability, agritech innovation, and improving food access for remote and Indigenous communities.BenefitsPotential travel to customer sites in Kelowna, Seattle, Toronto, & Hong KongOpportunity to work on cutting-edge vertical farming technology and sustainability projects.Flexible hybrid work environment (mix of on-site and remote work).Hands-on experience in a fast-growing agritech startup.Potential for career growth and leadership opportunities.Meaningful work contributing to sustainable and accessible food production.
