Reporting To: Country Manager & Clinical LeadAssignment Duration: This position is available full-time, for an indefinite period. Job Summary:

The Laboratory Scientist is responsible for delivering laboratory services, which include collecting samples, conducting tests, documenting results, and maintaining equipment to facilitate accurate patient diagnosis and treatment. They shall oversee and coordinate the operations of the laboratory unit, actively contributing to the management team while upholding the company’s reputation for excellence. Supervisory ResponsibilitiesThe Laboratory Scientist manages laboratory staff, including hiring, training, scheduling, and conducting performance evaluations to ensure a competent and motivated team. Oversees the lab activities related directly or indirectly to patient care to enhance first-class and high standards of service.

Serves as overall supervisor of the laboratory department. Ensures Lab Technicians follow their work schedules and produce the required tasks as per their JDs. Key Duties And Responsibilities: Performs all laboratory procedures and tests for the clinic in chemistry, hematology, serology, immunology, toxicology, microbiology, analyzing diagnostic samples, etc. Matches requested lab orders with the correct specimen labels. Communicates all lab results to physicians in a timely manner, maintaining accurate turnaround time. Identifies and communicates abnormal patient conditions by alerting physicians immediately.

Collaborates with the clinical team to ensure the quality, safety, and highest standards of clinical governance are met in providing patient care. Conducts rounds with physicians and observes any treatment alterations or requests for additional lab tests. Maintains an accurate and detailed knowledge of each patient's condition. Sets up lab equipment and verifies their function through routine troubleshooting, ensuring they function properly, following approved procedures, and monitoring quality control measures. Maintains quality results by running standards and controls, performing quality control tests, and calibrating equipment before use. Supervises the sterilization and maintenance of instruments/equipment in the laboratory.

Ensures proper packaging of lab samples prior to shipping them to external laboratories. Collaborates with external laboratories to ensure external results are received in time. Maintains lab supply inventory and reorders in time to maintain minimum stock levels. Maintains and adheres to reagent storage procedures and controlled substance regulations. Stores all chemical substances, fluids, and compressed gases according to safety instructions. Maintains and follows all Infection Prevention Control (IPC), Waste Management, and Health and Safety Regulations, and ensures all Lab Technicians comply with the same. Ensures a safe and clean environment is maintained, keeping work surfaces clean and orderly.

Maintains proper documentation and filing systems. Ensures lab records and patient results are securely kept and accurately updated. Coordinates training for Lab Technicians and ensures that they obtain adequate knowledge regarding testing procedures and laboratory protocol. Prepares duty rosters and assigns duties to each lab staff on shift. Tracks all absenteeism i. e. authorized and unauthorized absences, ensures flexible cover at short notice, and reports all absences to the Country Manager. Ensures end of shift reports and hand offs are done effectively and maintains a record of them.

Reviews and ensures lab staff timesheets, overtime, and leave request forms are completed correctly before approval by the Country Manager. Conducts Performance Planning and Evaluation, monitors performance objectives for lab staff, and deals with discipline or poor performance issues appropriately. Adheres to national laboratory regulations and maintains a valid practice license, ensuring all Lab Technicians comply as well. Provides guidance, constantly coaches, and motivates subordinates to develop themselves. Attends all meetings as required to provide updates on the department’s efforts and progress. Prepares and submits weekly reports to the Country Manager/Clinical Lead.

Attends or presents staff training, patient education, outreach screening, and briefing sessions in collaboration with other clinical leads. Directly monitors and oversees all lab activities carried out for the Visa Medical Unit including ensuring results are ready in time and accurately uploaded on eMedical, paper base, etc. Performs any other duties as required by the Company/Line Manager/Country Manager. Required Skills And Abilities: Must possess excellent leadership skills and experience in managing people. Must have wise judgment and be able to use own initiative and be proactive.

Is compassionate, cool-tempered, and able to give the best care under stressful circumstances. Must possess excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Possesses very strong written and verbal communication skills. Must have very good clinical skills and excellent bedside manners. Maintains strict confidentiality concerning health records and information. Can multitask without error and has good time management skills. Ability to push, pull, or lift with assistance up to 150 pounds and stand for long hours. Must have good interpersonal attributes, easily approachable. Comfortable working in an infectious disease hot zone. Administrative skills and proficiency in computer literacy i. e.

, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint. Education, Experience & Another Requirements: Updated CV and active license to practice, with current registration in the Association of Laboratory Medicine of South Sudan. Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory sciences or related field. Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in clinical laboratory practice. Completed training in Molecular Diagnostics, Basic Life Support (BLS), IPC, leadership, and other relevant courses. Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory principles, techniques, and a high level of integrity. Work Environment & Physical Requirements: This position requires onsite attendance.
