YesJob Summary/Basic FunctionConcordia College (Moorhead, MN) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor in the area of Music Composition. The successful candidate will teach private composition lessons, courses in music technology and in the core musicianship area (i.e. music theory, aural skills).Minimum Qualifications:Ph.D or DMA in music composition ( ABD considered)Demonstrated success in collegiate teaching in music theory/compositionFluency in area(s) of music technology (electronic media, interactive music, film/television scoring, gaming, sound design etc.)Demonstrated experience guiding composers of diverse styles/interestsPreferred Qualifications:Experience teaching advanced courses in the composition/music curriculum (Counterpoint, Critical Analysis, Orchestration, Technology Capstone, etc.)Demonstrated experience working effectively with diverse populationsExperience working with MaxMSPPosition Summary:Primary responsibilities include teaching composition lessons, courses in music technology, and courses in the core theory/musicianship sequence. Additional responsibilities may also include other courses in the candidate’s secondary area(s) of interest. The successful candidate will collaborate with colleagues and assume an active role in the recruitment, advisement, and retention of music students. It is the largest single department on campus, with more than 30 faculty and more than 1/4 of the entire student body participating in the campus vocal and instrumental ensembles. Students interested in composition can pursue their studies through either a Bachelor of Music degree in composition or a Bachelor Arts degree in music. There are currently 17 students majoring in composition at Concordia pursuing a wide variety of styles and interests. Composition students receive individualized instruction through private lessons, engage in weekly seminar discussions, and regularly hear their works brought to life in student composition recitals and large-ensemble readings.
