Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Automation Technician to join our development team, specializing in PLC testing and implementation in a lab environment.This role is perfect for a hands-on technician with expertise in industrial automation, control systems, and PLC programming. The ideal candidate will be responsible for testing, troubleshooting, and implementing PLC programs to ensure reliable and efficient automation solutions for marine energy applications.Key ResponsibilitiesPLC Testing & ImplementationDevelop, test, and implement PLC programs for automation and control systems, focusing on marine applicationsWrite and debug structured text, and function block diagrams using PLC software B&R Automation StudioLab-Based Testing & ValidationConduct rigorous testing of PLC programs, including simulation, emulation, and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) testingExecute test plans to validate PLC functionality, performance, and compliance with safety standardsSupport Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT) and collaborate with teams during on-site commissioningCompliance & StandardsEnsure PLC programs and automation systems meet maritime standardsWork with certification bodies and internal teams during design reviews, inspections, and compliance testingTroubleshooting & OptimizationDiagnose and resolve PLC-related issues in lab and field environmentsOptimize PLC programs for performance, reliability, and energy efficiencyPerform failure mode analysis and implement corrective actionsDocumentation & Knowledge SharingMaintain detailed technical documentation, including PLC code, test reports, and operational manualsProvide training and support to junior technicians on PLC programming and testing best practicesContribute to continuous improvement initiatives to enhance automation processes and toolRequired QualificationsTechnical degree or vocational training in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Mechatronics, or a related field3+ years of hands-on experience in PLC programming, testing, and implementation, preferably in marine or industrial automationProficiency in PLC softwareStrong understanding of industrial communication protocolsExperience with HMI/SCADA systemsKnowledge of industrial standardsProven ability to troubleshoot, test, and commission automation systems in a lab or field setting.We think you should haveExperience with hybrid or electric propulsion systems and energy management in marine applicationsUnderstanding of cybersecurity standards for industrial control systems.Experience with version control systems for managing PLC code.At KONGSBERG, we believe that diversity fuels innovation.
