This is a project-based, full-time, onsite role focused on ensuring compliance with environmental permit requirements and delivering a detailed avifauna study report in alignment with NCW regulations and international best practice.The specialist will oversee avifauna monitoring during the construction phase and lead a focused assessment coinciding with the migratory season. The resulting study will provide recommendations for protective measures, ensuring biodiversity safeguards are embedded into construction practices.Key Responsibilities:Conduct environmental compliance and monitoring with a focus on avifauna, ensuring contractors adhere to permit conditions and regulatory requirementsDesign and implement an avifauna assessment during the migratory bird season, documenting species occurrence, movement patterns, and important migratory bird habitatsPrepare and deliver a comprehensive avifauna study report, with recommendations for protective measures consistent with NCW requirements and international standardsProvide input to and develop monitoring plans and reporting templates for the avifauna aspect, in coordination with other specialists and the on-site environmental managerSupport collision and electrocution risk assessments for transmission line infrastructure, recommending appropriate mitigation measuresProduce regular compliance reports and technical deliverables for submission to the client and regulatorsDevelop monitoring protocols, checklists, and guidance documents to support construction-phase biodiversity protectionMentor junior ecologists and liaise with multidisciplinary teams specifically to ensure avifauna considerations are integrated into broader environmental programme and engage with contractors, regulators, and conservation stakeholders on avifauna-related issues and compliance measures.Essential Qualifications / Skills:Bachelors or Masters degree in ecology, ornithology, environmental science, or related field;8-10 years of professional experience in avifauna ecology, including at least 3 years in the Middle EastDemonstrated expertise in avian survey methodologies, including migratory bird monitoringProven experience in construction compliance monitoring and environmental reportingRobust knowledge of Saudi environmental regulations (NCEC, NCW) and international standards (IFC PS6, EP4, IUCN)Ability and willingness to be based onsite in Al Wajh for the duration of the projectFamiliarity with Red Sea migratory flyways and Important Bird Areas (IBAs) desirableGIS proficiency for survey data analysis and mapping Experience with radar ornithology, collision risk modelling, or automated bird detection systemsWhy join AESG?AESG is a multidisciplinary specialist consultancy, offering a consultancy service and work environment like no other.Through our world-class reputation for innovative thinking, pushing projects to outperform expectations through smart application of planning, engineering, and architectural solutions, our project portfolio includes some of the world's most forward-thinking and exciting new developments.The success of our company is built on the success of individuals.
