In 2022, Securian dramatically accelerated its plans to become a dominant player in the Canadian Affinity and Association insurance business when it closed its acquisition of Sun Life’s A&A business. The acquisition more than doubled the size of Securian Canada and overnight made the company one of the top players in this niche.THE ROLE/MANDATE Reporting to the Chief Human Experience Officer (CHEO), the Assistant Vice President (AVP) Talent Management is a key architect, ally and sounding board to the CHEO and leadership team, helping to shape and execute on an talent strategy that will support the business strategy in delivering increased top-line growth and bottom-line profitability, while building the brand and creating a great place for employees to work.The AVP is accountable for the leadership and execution of Securian Canada’s talent roadmap, overseeing enterprise strategies for talent management, organizational development and the talent acquisition agenda. The AVP, Talent Management is a strategic thought partner and business enabler with a collaborative and innovative approach to attracting, engaging and growing diverse, high-performing talent to ensure the organization’s short- and long-term success.KEY PRIORITIES Strategy/Structure Build and deliver the talent programs that will bring to life an inspiring, growth-oriented, multi-year HR vision and strategy for Securian Canada – one that elevates people and culture and supports the achievement of the business vision and strategy.Aligned with that vision, unite, build, and lead a world-class talent team, ensuring they are able to develop and deliver scalable, and wherever possible, digital, enabling solutions, as well as serve as consultative, strategic business partners.In partnership with the CHEO and Human Experience Team, co-create an optimal company-wide talent structure and framework that will enable the company to achieve its goals.TEAM/CULTURE/RELATIONSHIPS Play a lead role in establishing the organization’s culture and practices, with a focus on models, processes, and attributes that engender and enable a deep commitment to performance excellence, customer and community service, innovation, professional development, and DEI/belonging.Develop and deliver talent solutions to support the assessment, selection and development of high quality, high performing leaders and teams (executive, leadership and HR), ensuring performance excellence in the context of a $1 billion financial services company is defined, understood and achieved and that the appropriate resources are in place to enable the company to deliver on its mandate.Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across and outside the organization, including optimizing the relationship between the Canadian and US HR teams.DETAILED RESPONSIBILITIES (Experience, Skills, Education)A senior Talent Management professional with deep experience in increasingly senior, complex talent management roles Experience building out and leading the Talent function in an organization undergoing rapid growth and/or transformation.Skilled in identifying business needs, opportunities, talent solutions and recommendations in a fast-paced and evolving environmentDemonstrated business acumen, project management, change management and design thinking in complex, matrixed organizationsA culture builder; able to work with the CHEO to design and build a new “challenger” culture from 3 existing cultures Skilled in the key elements of Talent Management including: leadership development, succession planning, performance management and talent attraction/recruitment Experience building HR programs that work for a diverse, multi-generational talent base and that win the hearts, minds, and loyalty of employees of all backgrounds Superior communication skills with comfort presenting to all audiences including the Executive and Senior Leadership Teams Ability to build high performing teams; strong in selecting, developing and retaining a world-class team of leaders and experts that can deliver on the business’s needs Impeccable ethical standards and integrity, objectivity, dedication and excellent Undergraduate or post-graduate degree in a related field (i.e., Human Resources Management, Business Management); professional designation (CHRE, GTML, CCMP) is advantageousCONTACT INFORMATIONLindsay Millard, Senior Consultant, lindsay.millard@lhhknightsbridge.com, 416 928 4558ABOUT KNIGHTSBRIDGE - www.lhhknightsbridge.com
