Job Description

BDG is looking for an experienced editor to work on its social and editorial video projects. In addition to technical expertise, candidates should have excellent narrative judgement and be confident in making independent decisions on the content and pacing of a piece. Candidates should also be clued in on the nuances of multiplatform publishing, as well as up to speed with the latest social media and video trends. An understanding of long-form/podcast video is essential, as is the ability to work quickly and efficiently in reaction to the news cycle.

Key AccountabilitiesExecute edits for editorial and social video projects, including cover stories, long-form video podcasts, and social-only formats, among othersUse editorial judgement to build strong, engaging narratives and identify footage for punchy, sharable social cutdownsMake creative decisions on framing, cutaways, music, and text to enhance storytelling and viewer experience Work with each deliverable’s intended platform in mind and optimize edits accordingly Maintain a proper workflow from rough cut to final deliverables, including the archiving and organizing of projects, creating cleans, and tracking the use of licensed contentQuality control work, ensuring only the highest quality deliverables are provided to the team for publicationImplement BDG branding via typography, color palettes, logos, and graphics, ensuring consistent usage across series and formatsWhere needed, source archival imagery/footage from newswire sites and integrate into editsAssist in overseeing editorial/social projects handled by Part-Time and Freelance video editorsIdentify and act on opportunities to reuse/repurpose BDG editorial video contentCandidate Profile 3+ years of experience in long and short-form video editing Experience at a digital media organization is desirable but not requiredSkilled in color correction, audio mixing, basic motion design, and multi-cam editing A strong understanding of what makes an effective and watchable video, both on YouTube and vertical video platforms Adept at switching workflow based on priorities and happy to execute on tight deadlinesConfident with ingest/export settings and file types Collaborative in mindset and keen to work closely with Creative, Social, and Post Production teams on their respective parts of the processFluent with Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Premiere Pro and After Effects (other editing software experience a plus) BDG Media Inc.
