This is a key growth role that requires both sales acumen and deep understanding of the freelancing ecosystem.Role OverviewAs a BDE, you will be responsible for identifying, bidding on, and winning new projects via Upwork and other freelance platforms. You will manage the full sales cycle—from opportunity discovery to proposal writing, client communication, and handover to the delivery team.You should have a proven track record of winning high-quality leads and converting them into long-term clients.Key ResponsibilitiesLead Generation & Bidding:Actively search for relevant jobs on platforms like Upwork daily.Prepare and submit custom, high-converting proposals tailored to each client’s project.Maintain a high response and invite rate by optimizing profile visibility and proposal strategies.Client Communication & Conversion:Initiate conversations with prospective clients to understand their needs.Conduct discovery calls (if needed) and provide accurate estimates or initial project roadmaps.Negotiate terms and close deals independently or in collaboration with senior team members.Profile & Platform Management:Optimize and update Upwork and freelance platform profiles to improve visibility and conversion.Maintain a strong job success score, high client satisfaction, and positive reviews.Pipeline & Reporting:Track all opportunities and proposals using CRM tools or internal trackers.Provide weekly and monthly reports on performance metrics (proposals submitted, leads converted, revenue generated, etc.).Market Insights:Research industry trends and competitor activity to identify new market opportunities.Share feedback with marketing and product teams to refine service offerings and messaging.Required Qualifications6+ months of experience generating leads and closing deals on Upwork or similar platforms.Deep understanding of how freelance platforms work, including algorithms, bidding strategies, and client behavior.Exceptional written English skills with the ability to craft tailored, persuasive proposals.Strong communication and interpersonal skills.Self-motivated and results-driven with the ability to work independently.Understanding of software development technologies and workflows (bonus if you can speak confidently about technical topics).Strong organizational and time management skills.Preferred QualificationsExperience selling services like web/app development, UI/UX, SaaS MVPs, or DevOps.Familiarity with other platforms such as Upwork, Freelancer.com, Fiverr Pro, PeoplePerHour, or Toptal.Prior experience in managing long-term client relationships post-project completion.Knowledge of Agile development, Scrum, or general SDLC principles.What We OfferCompetitive fixed salary + commissions on deals closed.Access to tools, support, and training to help you succeed.Opportunity to grow into a leadership or account management role.Work with a team that values autonomy, transparency, and innovation.
