Job Description

CHILD AND YOUTH WORKERThe Child and Youth Worker provides support to students experiencing social, emotional and/or behavioural challenges that may interfere with their academic success and overall well-being. Working as part of the school team, the CYW promotes a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment while fostering positive relationships among students, staff and families.QualificationsSuccessful completion of a three-year post secondary child and youth worker diploma program or equivalent plus a minimum of one to two years related job experience in child youth work;Good working knowledge of relevant legislation and the developmental and social-emotional needs of children/youth;Strong knowledge of group work practice and the ability to function effectively in group or classroom environments;Ability to function independently within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team.Self-starter with strong, organizational skills and the ability to manage caseload duties;Ability to support students in a calm, compassionate and professional manner;Ability to maintain discretion with confidential information;Excellent written and oral communication skills. Have a reliable vehicle and a valid Ontario driver’s license is an asset as travel throughout the Brant Haldimand Norfolk Region may be required; Duties/ResponsibilitiesParticipate, as required, in meeting the social, emotional and behavioural objectives for students;Assist in planning and implementing social and emotional learning skills programs/opportunities to students;Provide support to student's within their life space in collaboration with teachers, parents and other support services;Provide counseling/coaching, skill building and crisis intervention to individuals and groups;Observe and monitor students’ behavior and consult with teacher/principal/caregiver regarding progress;Liaise with parents and community agencies as required;Support intervention plans in accordance with the Code of Behavior and Catholic values;Attend and participate in staff meetings and perform other duties as assigned by the administrator with the CYW scope of practice;Perform other related duties as assigned by the Board Mental Health Leadership Team.Applications Must IncludeCover Letter;Resume; andProof of successful completion of a post-secondary Child and Youth Worker program.About UsThe Brant Haldimand Norfolk Catholic District School Board offers a Christ-centered education to over 13,000 students from Brant, Haldimand, and Norfolk counties, the City of Brantford, Six Nations of the Grand River and Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation.
