And you’ll know that you’re making a difference every day—for companies, for Canada and for the people you work with.Year after year, EDC has been recognized as a Top 100 and Top Family-Friendly Employer.OverviewThe EDC Global Business Development Group - Asia Pacific, is looking for a highly motivated and experienced relationship manager and business development professional who will lead the team's business development and corporate representation efforts in Singapore and Malaysia.The successful candidate will have significant business development experience working in international markets, complemented by solid strategic relationship and account management experience, as well as sound knowledge of international banking and financing practices. The position requires an in-depth knowledge business practices and culture in Singapore and Malaysia. The successful candidate will be working from EDC’s Singapore office and may be expected to attend some training at head office in Ottawa, Ontario – Canada.The successful candidate must demonstrate a passion for EDC's mandate, possess strong strategic relationship management skills, influencing and business development skills and act as a trusted partner linking foreign opportunities to Canadian capabilities. The Chief Representative will promote EDC's value proposition for the Singaporean and Malaysian market and develop shared business objectives with internal EDC sector teams. As the Chief Representative based in EDC’s only stand-alone branch, the candidate must also be ready to gather regional intelligence to share to the relevant teams in the Indo-Pacific.To be a successful Chief Representative for EDC, one must: Have a passion for EDC's mandate.Possess strong relationship building skills and the capability of connecting to key actors in the Singapore & Malaysia market.Be customer centric and contribute and execute on EDC’s Indo-Pacific strategy. Possess the ability to work independently and as a member of a broader virtual team, including with relevant EDC teams in Singapore and in Canada, the Canadian Trade Commissioner Service and other Team Canada counterparts.Possess the capacity to work a variety of hours due to networking events, social engagements, business meetings and varying time zones including connecting with EDC’s headquarters in Canada.Acquire market intelligence across various sectors with the aim of deepening EDC’s knowledge and understanding about the region through external interactions with Asian buyers of imported goods and services, banks, Canadian exporters and investors, as well with sector associations.Build and maintain effective long-term relationships with business partners and key industry associations in Singapore, Malaysia and Canada.Build and maintain effective long-term relationships with local, international and Canadian commercial banking contacts.Provide corporate representation at public events across Singapore & Malaysia (including speaking engagements) as well as during outreach activities in Canada.Assume responsibility for EDC’s brand image and reputation in the market.Possess the ability to generate new financing and insurance business including call planning, prospecting and selling to originate transactions.The ability to structure deals, screen potential clients and facilitate transactions.Be able to function comfortably in a C-suite environment (within EDC and with clients/partners);Poses strong leadership skills in order to lead, coach and mentor team staff. Skills & KnowledgeKnowledge and track record of conducting business in the Singaporean and Malaysian markets.Solid knowledge of international capital markets, banking environment and global insurance environment.A thorough understanding of financial requirements throughout the life cycle of capital projects and related financing techniques.Deep knowledge of the Canadian export and investment opportunities in the region.A proven track record of developing strategic relationships; must have well developed soft skills enabling building of contacts with senior business decision makers.Demonstrated ability to identify and deliver on new business opportunities, ideally in Singapore and Malaysia; Solid influencing, negotiating, strategic relationship management and highly effective presentation skills;Ability to work effectively and collaboratively with relevant EDC teams and exhibit appropriate leadership and teamwork skills.Ability to work autonomously with strong initiative.Strong cross-cultural awareness/sensitivity.Must be results-oriented.RequirementsUniversity degree in business or a related area, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experienceMinimum of 10 years of experience, including international business development experience in a business development and/or relationship management roleExperience in financial services industry, either in selling or underwriting, or in consulting or advisory servicesKnowledge of Singapore & MalaysiaWillingness to travel to head office in Ottawa, as required from time to time (subject to prevailing travel restrictions)Travel to Malaysia will be required (subject to prevailing travel restrictions)Excellent verbal and written communication skills in EnglishAssetsPrevious experience and or familiarity with the Asian MarketProficiency in both official languages (English & French)EligibilityThe successful candidate must be able to work legally in Singapore at the time of application.
