Our services include ambulatory, wheelchair, and stretcher transport as well as Basic Life Support, Advanced Life Support, & Critical Care Transports.About the Role: The Chief Training Officer (CTO) serves as the lead training authority within Hospital to Home, LLC/H2H Emergency Services. The CTO plays a pivotal role in developing a competent and dependable field workforce by acting as a coach, evaluator, motivator, and administrative leader for all training initiatives.This position is responsible for planning, delivering, and supervising all training activities, including: New employee onboarding and field training (clinical and driver). Compliance training and continuing education. Performance improvement and skills remediation initiatives. Direct mentorship of Field Training Officers (FTOs)The CTO works collaboratively with FTOs, operations leaders, and other internal stakeholders to support the development of a professional, skilled, and dependable field staff.QualificationsLicenses & Certifications: Current certification through the VA OEMS as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) or higher (EMT-Intermediate or Paramedic preferred). Current Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) certification from a VA OEMS-approved institution. Current CPR certification from a VA OEMS-recognized organization (e.g., AHA, Red Cross). ACLS & PALS additionally required for ALS providers. Valid, unrestricted driver’s license with an acceptable driving record in accordance with company policy. VA EMS Education Coordinator and other instructor certifications preferred.Experience & Skills Minimum of 5 years of field experience in EMS, with a proven track record of clinical excellence and professional conduct. Minimum of 3 year in a training, precepting, or field training officer role required; supervisory or program leadership experience preferred. Strong knowledge of EMS operations, clinical protocols, safety standards, and training methodologies. Demonstrated ability to coach and mentor field providers at varying levels of experience. Proficient in delivering training in both classroom and field settings, including simulation-based and scenario-based instruction. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills. Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple training programs and priorities simultaneously. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and learning management systems (LMS); ability to produce training documentation, reports, and evaluations.Physical RequirementsThe Chief Training Officer must be physically capable of performing the essential job functions listed below, with or without reasonable accommodation: Verbally communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in person and via telephone or other telecommunications systems. Possess adequate hearing ability to perceive spoken instructions from trainees, coworkers, dispatchers, patients, and physicians, as well as critical sounds commonly encountered at emergency scenes (e.g., alarms, sirens, vehicle sounds). Lift, carry, and balance up to 125 pounds (or 250 pounds with assistance) to a height of 33 inches and over a distance of at least 10 feet. Read, interpret, and comprehend written materials and instructions under stressful and time-sensitive conditions. Bend, stoop, crawl, and walk across uneven or unstable surfaces in various environmental conditions. Meet the minimum vision standards required to safely operate a motor vehicle in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Maintain the physical stamina and dexterity to perform prolonged tasks, enter and exit vehicles repeatedly, and respond to physically demanding situations. Drive safely and navigate in low-visibility conditions, including at night or in dimly lit areas. Operate a vehicle safely in inclement or severe weather, such as rain, snow, or fog, while maintaining composure and vehicle control. Drive or ride in a motor vehicle for extended periods of time or over long distances, including during overnight shifts and prolonged transport assignments.These requirements reflect the physical demands regularly encountered in the field and are considered essential functions of the role. This list is not exhaustive and may be subject to change based on operational needs.ResponsibilitiesThe Chief Training Officer (CTO) is responsible for leading, coordinating, and supporting training efforts within the company while assisting the broader agency as needed. Key responsibilities include:Training Program Delivery & Oversight Facilitate new employee orientation within the assigned region and assist with orientation in other regions as needed. Proctor onboarding processes and coordinate orientation schedules with supervisors, HR, and managers. Teach and facilitate core training courses, including CPR, ACLS, PALS, EVOC, and other required instruction. Deliver or coordinate the delivery of ventilator training and complete ventilator clearance evaluations for ALS providers. Provide ongoing training to ensure staff competency in equipment use, clinical protocols, and patient care standards. Develop and maintain training packets, binders, and documentation for employees within the assigned region. Coordinate and maintain a rolling training calendar to ensure consistent training availability. Maintain instructor certifications in CPR, ACLS, PALS, and EVOC (at minimum) and serve as a lead instructor or adjunct as needed.Field Support, Evaluation, & Quality Assurance Perform quality spot-checks and field evaluations on newly released providers. Conduct periodic ride alongs and in-field assessments to support skill development and quality assurance. Support ALS field operations by staffing ALS shifts when training responsibilities do not meet the weekly 36-hour minimum, with a minimum of one ALS shift per pay period. Assist in oversight of the Field Training Officer (FTO) program within the region. Act as a coach and mentor to FTOs and newly hired personnel.Compliance & Records Management Ensure staff completion of all mandatory training, including annual compliance, skills verification, protocol education, and other initiatives as directed by Leadership. Coordinate CE (continuing education) classes and track attendance and competencies. Collaborate with the Human Resources Office to ensure all training records are current and filed appropriately. Administrative Support & Communication: Communicate regularly with day and night shift personnel—both full-time and part-time—to ensure ongoing certification maintenance and access to required courses. Develop and support adjunct instructors to expand training capacity and coverage. Maintain inventory of training equipment and supplies; report or resolve issues to ensure readiness for instruction. Serve as a liaison between regional field staff, training leadership, and agency management.Clinical Field Support Complete all required documentation accurately and in a timely manner, including patient care and/or incident reports when functioning in a clinical capacity. Adhere to company policies, healthcare regulations, and safety protocols related to patient transport and specialty services (e.g., ventilator support, organ/biospecimen handling. Etc.) Maintain all certifications required for emergency vehicle operation and clinical support, participating in ongoing training as needed.Conditions Of EmploymentCandidates selected for employment are subject to a fingerprint-based background screening, as required by the Virginia Office of EMS.
