Participates as a member of a team to provide support to students with social, emotional, behavioural and mental health challenges.QualificationsSuccessful completion of a secondary school graduation program or equivalent. Required to have completed a Child and Youth Care Diploma, or Associate Degree, or a Community Social Service Worker Diploma. Post-Secondary Bachelor degree in Social Work or Child and Youth Care is preferred.Minimum of 2 years supervised recent and relevent work related experience with children and youth is required. Proven ability working with at-risk school-aged children and youth as well as experience running groups with children and youth.Ability to work independently without supervision.Valid B.C. Driver's License. Safe driving record; required to transport students in personal vehicle.Ability to work cooperatively with family, community and school personnel.Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Ability to follow school and community protocols. Physically capable of performing the duties of the position.Knowledge of WCB and WHIMIS regulations. Safe work practices.DutiesDirect Student Support Build trusting, supportive relationships with students. Support students in setting and working towards achievable social, emotional and behavioural goals. Supervises student(s) both on and off the school campus. Provide after-school support and or programs as per student needs. Implement individualized support strategies to address behavioural, emotional, and social needs. Provide crisis intervention, de-escalation, and conflict resolution as needed. Facilitate or co-facilitate group activities or programs focused on prevention including but not limited to social-emotional learning, self-regulation, and life skills.Collaboration & Communication Work closely with classroom teachers, educational assistants, counselors, administrators, and other school personnel. Participate in school-based team meetings and provide input into Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and Behaviour Support Plans (BSPs). Liaise with parents/caregivers and community professionals (e.g., social workers, mental health clinicians, Indigenous support workers) to support student success. Program & Environment Support Promote positive school climate and inclusive practices. Coordinates and implements school food/meal program as applicable. Support classroom and school-wide strategies for behaviour management and student engagement. Assist in implementing school-wide social-emotional learning frameworks.Documentation & Reporting Keep accurate and confidential records of student progress and interactions. Prepare reports as required by school administration or district student services. Manages expenses, mileage; applies for community grants and bursaries; assists with registration in extracurricular programs. Provide community-based outreach services including submitting referrals to outside agencies, arranging appointments, facilitating recreational opportunities, and supporting students and families to access resources and programming.
