About This RoleThe Gender and Inclusion Assistant will ensure that project activities effectively integrate gender and inclusion considerations and mainstream vulnerable groups, such as women.
The specialist will support the design and implementation of project activities that address the unique human rights challenges that women face, and how to incorporate gender and social inclusion concerns in advocacy activities. S/he will support project management with recommendations for improving processes to achieve objectives, will contribute to the overall adaptive programming approach, and will play a key role in project work planning, learning and reporting.
Required Experience And Education Bachelors Degree in social sciences, gender studies, community development, peacebuilding or equivalent experience One (1) to Three (3) years’ relevant professional experience managing and implementing development activities, including those related to gender integration and inclusion; Ensures the quality of implemented technical activities and systems at all levels. Strong knowledge and skills related to GESI and general understanding of GESI concepts and principles.
Experience engaging men on gender related issues; Technical knowledge of Gender Equality and Inclusion in general, and as it relates to relevant sectors, especially Women’s Economic Empowerment Direct project management experience, donor reporting and capacity building.
Hold personal values, ethics and attitudes which are in alignment with the principles of the ChildFund values Experience managing and implementing programs related to countering trafficking-in-persons, prevention of female genital mutilation, sexual and gender-based violence and child- and early forced marriage and preferred; Demonstrated ability to influence, motivate and collaborate with others; Experience with gender analysis highly desired; Excellent organizational and analytical skills; and Ideally, the candidate will also have worked in UN or other donor programs and be familiar with UNDPs approach to gender sensitivity and inclusion.

Primary Responsibilities Act as the Gender and social inclusion (GESI) focal point for the project. Support in the development of action plan for gender and social inclusion and implementation plan for gender and inclusion development.
Provide inputs to gender and inclusive workplan, monitor actions and draft quarterly and annual reports on gender and inclusion related activities Conduct gender mapping, analysis in the value chain and support inclusion of marginalised categories in key participating positions. Ensure the project contributes to the outcomes for girls and young women are realised and that girls and women occupy spaces to continually address issues affecting them and realisation of gender equality.
Employ a gender-transformative approach, to address power and gender inequalities that undermine responsive, locally-led climate change adaptation and biodiversity conservation Design and implement the project while advancing gender transformation and aligned to the Country and Global strategies. Promote safeguarding and safe programming through the project cycles and ensure ChildFund policy on safeguarding the rights of children and young people is adhered to by all associates or stakeholders .
Build relationship with relevant staff to ensure all logistics and procurement processes are in conformity with ChildFund’s policies, procedures and standards Facilitate meaningful engagement, consultation, participation and feedback to the community in relation to ChildFund programs and policies.
Facilitate and conduct staff training and other capacity building activities on gender and protection mainstreaming; Provide guidance in ensuring that all community structures associated with the current project are gender sensitive and protection mainstreamed, include measures to ensure safety from sexual exploitation and abuse; Act as a focal point on gender and protection; Attending and participating in the activities of the protection cluster at community level where possible at county, regional or national level; collaborate with other program team members, coordinate monthly feedback sessions in the implementation areas to collect complaints, respond to issues to enhance accountability to affected communities and recommend to management any protection and gender concerns; Promote participation of children, girls and communities in project cycle to explore and challenge gender norms.
Contribute to gender sensitive responses/intervention through continuous data collection during project implementation by writing project periodic reports in line with the laid down donor requirements and ChildFund standards. Engage and influence different technical working groups at sub-country level Understands and puts into practice the responsibilities under Safeguarding and GEI policies and ChildFund’s International’s Code of Conduct (CoC), ensuring that concerns are reported and managed in accordance with the appropriate procedures.
Leads the orientation of program staff to ensure that they are properly inducted on and understands their role in upholding ChildFund International’s safeguarding and GEI policies; Ensures that ChildFund International’s global policies for Safeguarding Children and Young People and Gender Equality and Inclusion are fully embedded in project design, during implementation and as principles applied in day-to-day work of Programme team; Ensure that there is a system for responding back to affected communities on timely manner and on regular basis and that, with focus on issues from communities that shape programming; Conduct gender analysis at program outset and incorporate findings in work plan and baseline data for ongoing monitoring and learning purposes; Develop and deliver training to program staff and relevant stakeholders on inclusion-related issues, tools and approaches, and conduct awareness raising initiatives; Incorporate gender and inclusion approaches in all project activities, including research and data collection; Work closely with country office staff, including Country Director, Programs and Sponsorship Director and technical specialists to develop and implement appropriate messaging plans; Maintains a constructive dialogue and technical exchange with technical staff of implementing partners.
Work collaboratively to enhance a gender-friendly environment and strengthen integration of GED approaches in programming. Work with Program and Sponsorship team and ME &KML Specialist to ensure the impact of gender interventions is measured and reported; including documentation of lessons learnt and challenges. Facilitate periodic progress reviews among ChildFund, The Gambia staff, partners and stakeholders, sharing experience and learnings as well as address challenges that may affect rollout of key strategic tasks and agendas. Lead the development and promotion of context-sensitive, culturally appropriate female empowerment, male engagement, and gender-transformative and inclusive approaches.
