Install & Commissioning Technician – Ciena Optical NetworksLocation: Mississauga, ONWho We AreAt Genwave Technologies, we know networks. From Ciena ROADM optical builds to fiber transport, mobile backhaul, wireless, and Cisco IoT, we deliver carrier-grade solutions for some of the largest networks in Canada and the U.S.With our growing portfolio of Ciena optical deployments, we’re looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Install & Commissioning Technician to join our team.The RoleInstall, cable, and commission Ciena 6500/RLS/ROADM platforms across ILA and metro sites.Perform system turn-ups, software loads, and commissioning of transport and switching cards.Complete fiber termination (single-mode and multi-mode), splicing, and power/OTDR testing.Run acceptance testing (OTN, Ethernet, client service turn-up), verify alarms, and complete Method of Procedure (MoP) documentation.Work closely with our Engineering and Project Management teams to ensure builds are delivered on time and to spec.Conduct site surveys, rack/power/fiber prep, and coordinate with customer NOCs for cutovers.Some shift, weekend, or travel work may be required.Your SkillsHands-on experience installing and commissioning telecom and optical backbone hardware.Strong background in fiber splicing, routing, labeling, and structured cabling.Knowledge of optical transport technologies (DWDM, OTN, Ethernet services).Experience with DC power, grounding, and telecom rack installations.Proficient in telecom test equipment (OTDR, power meters, BERT testers, JDSU/EXFO).Networking/IP skills are a definite asset (management plane integration, element manager tools).Ability to read/interpret engineering packages and network design documents.Who You AreA motivated technician with a proven track record in telecom install/commissioning.Organized, detail-oriented, and able to work independently at remote sites.Strong problem-solving skills and a “get it done right” attitude.Valid driver’s license; working-at-heights certification an asset.Why Genwave?Challenging & Rewarding Projects – Be part of cutting-edge Ciena deployments across Canada and the U.S.Team Culture – Work with a supportive, fun, and driven group.Career Growth – Ongoing training and development opportunities with exposure to new technologies.Ready to help build next-generation optical networks?
