Job Description

The Azle Memorial Library is seeking three highly motivated individuals with an enthusiastic and professional demeanor to join our team. Applicants must be quick learners, enjoy working with all ages of the public, and have the ability to multitask while remaining organized. Job duties include:

sorting, organizing and shelving library materials; creating and managing library accounts; assisting all ages of the public in person and via phone with book selection, check out, and general questions; instructing the public in the use of library computers, printers and other technology; cash handling; promoting and explaining the use of library services and programs; assisting with large public events; plus extra duties as assigned. Schedule: These are year-round positions that work an average of 18-24 hours per week (depending on position), with two Saturdays off a month on a rotating basis.

Part-time Library Assistant (21-27 hours weekly) This position is Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) eligible with the employee contributing 7% of earnings and the City matching those contributions at 2: 1. (does not contribute to Social Security). The Schedule For This Position Is: Monday: 9: 00 am – 1: 00 pmTuesday: 2: 00 pm – 8: 00 pmWednesday: 12: 00 pm – 6: 00 pmThursday: 9: 00 am – 2: 00 pmFriday: OffSaturday: 10: 00 am – 4: 00 pm (2 Saturdays off per month)Sunday: OffPart-time Library Assistant (15-21 hours weekly)This position contributes to Social Security and is not TMRS eligible. Potential Coverage Would Generally Take Place Any Time Staff Are Present In The Building, As Listed Below: Monday/Wednesday/Friday: 9: 00 am – 6: 00 pm Tuesday/Thursday: 9: 00 am – 8: 00 pm Saturdays: 8: 00 am – 4: 30pmPhysical Requirements:

Sits, stoops and/or stands for extended periods of time. Reads computer screens and/or complex source materials to verify information. Retrieves books and materials from shelves up to 8 feet high with the aid of step stools. Lifts and carries materials and equipment up to 50 pounds. Can withstand some exposure to dust, odors, and electrical/mechanical hazards. Required Qualifications Knowledge, Abilities and Skills - Some knowledge of practices, principles and techniques of modern public library operations. Ability to learn routine library procedures and become familiar with library materials and services. Ability and skill to use personal computer/Microsoft Office.

Minimum Education, Experience and Certifications – High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Prefer at least 1 year work experience in library, or other customer service related field. Ability to learn routine library procedures readily, ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Must be willing to attend educational workshops as required. Summary Of Classification: Under the direction of the Library Director and Assistant Director, performs routine manual and clerical work in the public library. Work is performed in accordance with well-defined procedures.

Works under direct supervision, although may operate with some independence once procedures are learned, with only occasional checks for adherence to prescribed standards. Does related work as required. Budgetary ResponsibilitiesNone. Essential Job DutiesChecks in returned materials, cleaning, sorting, and returning these items to the shelves. Maintains books in correct order on the shelf. Assists the public in the use of library computers, online catalog, and other library equipment. Uses library automation system to input, organize, and locate patron and material information. Required ContactsThis position requires considerable contact with all members of the general public.

Communicates effectively and courteously with other city employees, members of the public, and community groups. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees is required.
