Position SummaryCreating, initiating, and activating programs and activities whose purpose is to reduce violence and enhance community safety in City of Pittsburgh neighborhoods where crime is higher than the city average, including homicides, suicides, and domestic violence. Qualifying RequirementsYour City of Pittsburgh application will be reviewed and your work experience and education/training will be evaluated to determine if you meet the qualifying eligibility requirements listed below for this position. You will be sent an eligibility letter regarding your eligible/ineligible status. WORK EXPERIENCE: The application must clearly show three (3) years of full-time experience in program administration and management, with a focus on preventing violence in diverse communities; effective oral and written communication skills; and experience in facilitating or coordinating multi-agency cooperation.

A clear understanding of violence prevention strategies , related theories, and local, county-wide and regional resources related to violence prevention is preferred. (Less than full-time experience will be calculated on a pro-rated basis. ) EDUCATION/TRAINING: The application must clearly show a Bachelor's Degree from a fully accredited institution in Program Administration, Community/Human Development, Sociology, Social Work, Public Health, Urban Affairs or a related field. A Master's Degree is preferred. (See NOTE under the General Application Requirements Section above regarding the verification of education/training). EQUIVALENCY:

Education/training and/or work experience may be substituted on a year for year basis if the application clearly shows the required number of years to meet the Total Qualifying Requirement for this position (based on the sum of work experience and education/training listed above) . The Total Qualifying Requirement is seven (7) years. You must pass the written and/or performance examination(s) in order to have your name placed on the official Civil Service eligibility list for this position. POSITION DUTIESIdentifies all city activities and resources related to violence prevention and safety enhancement in neighborhoods where crime and violence is higher than the City average. Coordinates community wide anti-violence and safety enhancement events with other organizations.

Creates and maintains a database of violence prevention activities and related services in the City of Pittsburgh. Leads and organizes the STOP the Violence Steering Committee. Seeks and manages public, private and philanthropic funds to support the efforts of the STOP the Violence initiative. Evaluates the effectiveness of current anti-violence initiatives. Educates public, private and nonprofit entities interested in supporting anti-violence initiatives and, if necessary, assists in project development, selection, oversight and evaluation. Provides information to legislators on the impact of legislative initiatives on violence issues. Stays informed on research based and proven violence prevention strategies and programs.

Sets annual goals for the initiative. Generates quarterly status reports for all work associated with the STOP the Violence Initiative.
