DutiesAs part of a multi-disciplinary team receiving supervision from the Clinical Manager/designate and direction from the Nurses, the Clinical Assistant will be responsible for contributing to patient care in our Women’s and Children’s Clinics clinics by providing basic patient support and for assisting with indirect care tasks. Duties will include: Supporting patients having medical appointments by providing comfort and reassurance, helping with wayfinding in the clinic etc Acting as a chaperone for gynecological exams Accurately identify and escort patients from waiting area to exam rooms and occasionally from our Clinic to other floors in the Ambulatory Care Centre (eg the lab) or the main hospital Clean and prepare exam rooms in between patients and ensuring supplies and equipment are ready for the next patient Procedure set up Height and weight measurement with accurate recording Transport specimens as necessary to the main hospital and/or other floors in the Ambulatory Care Centre Demonstrate initiative, independence, priority setting and problem solving techniques in a high paced, busy ambulatory environment while maintaining composure Ordering of supplies Submitting requests for repair of equipment Linen sort and storage General stocking of departmental supplies and equipment Assist with patient transfer (including with Hoyer lift) to and from exam table as required. Acts as liaison with MDRD team. Maintains specialty carts and equipment, keeps support areas/carts clean, stocked and organized Participating with team members in the patient care process in the clinic Attend and participate in team meetings Participating with team members in the development and implementation of quality initiatives. Other duties as assigned Qualifications Completion of Personal Support Worker Certificate from an accredited community college/approved by the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities that is no less than 625 hours in length Current CPR or BCLS certificate Completion of Hoyer lift training and experience with safe transfers using a Hoyer lift, preferred Excellent communication skills (ability to read, write and communicate with patients and to accurately document patient profiles) Excellent customer service record with proven success working as part of a team Demonstrated experience in providing compassionate patient care in a fast paced ambulatory setting Demonstrated knowledge, interest and experience working in women and children’s health care Demonstrated knowledge of aseptic technique and infection control practices relevant to ambulatory setting Relevant out patient experience and/or experience with women and children patient populations Demonstrated ability to problem solve. Excellent attendance record. Shifts are subject to change based on departmental needs, current clinic hours are 0800-1600.Assignment could be to any of the Women and Children’s Health Care clinics.Unity Health Toronto is committed to creating an accessible and inclusive organization.
