Position Title: Communications AideSalary Schedule: PARA plus supplementDepartment: Exceptional Students Educational ProgramJob Code: 480Reports To: Principal, SLP Lead, SLP CoordinatorWork Schedule: 190 Days / 8 hours per dayGrade/Level: N/AFLSA: Exempt: NoPrimary Function: Facilitates development of communication skills under the supervision of a certified SLPWorking Conditions: Physical Demands:Classroom environmentDexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboardHearing and speaking to exchange information in person and on the telephoneSeeing to read a variety of materialsSitting for extended periods of timeBending at the waist, kneeling, or crouching to file materialsQualificationsBachelor's Degree in Communication Disorders or Speech Pathology requiredParaprofessional certification will be requiredThe Board of Education and the Superintendent may accept alternatives to some of the above requirements.Essential FunctionsDemonstrates prompt and regular attendanceConducts speech/language therapy sessions according to scheduleNotifies staff in a timely manner of any changes to scheduleReports and maintains student attendance and data to assess progressComplies with Federal, State and System regulations regarding due processRefers to other agencies and/or personnel when appropriateInvestigates and uses new strategies for delivering student servicesParticipates in professional learning opportunities providedAttends scheduled departmental meetingsParticipates with school administrators/coordinators for effective planning, coordination, and implementation of speech-language program into total educational systemParticipates in RTI process at local school levelReports information required for local, state, and federal programsMaintains confidentiality of student and student recordsAdheres to legal statutes, organizational rules, and community standardsMaintains successful working relationships with co-workersFunctions as a team workerManifests emotional stability and maturity in all phases of job performanceGets along positively with staff, supervisors, and visitorsTreats confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion and avoids gossipMeets obligations with punctuality and maintains regular attendanceWorks without constant directionCommunicates effectively both orally and in writingSeeks to improve skills and knowledgeUses time efficientlyMaintains effective physical setting for optimum job performancePresents a professional image when representing Paulding County Schools through word, action and dressProven ability to utilize appropriate procedures for student's safety and welfareProvides therapy per IEPs under the directions of the SLPReviews plans and schedules with the SLP on a regular basisManages the learning environmentProven ability to utilize appropriate procedures for student's safety and welfarePerforms other duties as assigned by Superintendent or designee
