Department: OperationsLocation: JohannesburgDescriptionThe Compliance Analyst plays a hands-on role in making sure Sumer operates in line with professional, ethical, and regulatory requirements. The role has a strong focus on conflicts of interest, running end-to-end processes from initial checks through to investigation, monitoring, and clear record-keeping.Alongside conflicts work, the role supports wider compliance reporting, assurance activity, and data analysis, helping turn information into insight for senior leaders.This is a delivery role with real responsibility, visibility, and impact.Key ResponsibilitiesConflicts of Interest (Core Focus)Operate the end-to-end conflicts of interest process, including:Reviewing and assessing conflict checks for new clients, new engagements, and changes in circumstancesInvestigating actual, potential, and perceived conflictsApplying and documenting safeguards where appropriateEscalating matters to senior stakeholders when requiredMonitor ongoing conflicts and ensure records remain accurate and up to dateMaintain the central conflicts register, ensuring clear audit trails and consistencySupport periodic reviews and reporting of conflicts data and trendsCompliance OperationsSupport the delivery of the compliance framework across ethics, regulatory, and professional standardsCarry out assurance-style testing and reviews against policies, procedures, and controlsTrack actions, follow up on findings, and support continuous improvementCompliance Portal & SystemsOperate and help embed the compliance portal, including:Supporting users with submissions and queriesMonitoring workflows and completionEnsuring data quality and completenessHelp improve how the portal is used, including spotting inefficiencies or risksData, Reporting & InsightAnalyse compliance data (e.g. conflicts, ethics queries, complaints, attestations) to identify trends and emerging risksPrepare clear, accurate management information reportsTranslate data into practical insight and recommendationsSupport ad-hoc reporting requests from senior stakeholdersStakeholder SupportAct as a trusted point of contact for compliance-related queriesWork closely with Legal, Risk, Compliance, and operational teamsSupport training, guidance, and awareness activity where neededSkills, Knowledge & ExpertiseExperienceExperience in a compliance, risk, assurance, audit, or regulatory role (professional services or regulated environment preferred)Hands-on experience managing structured processes and working with registers or case management systemsExposure to conflicts of interest, ethics, or independence frameworks is a strong advantageSkills & AttributesStrong attention to detail, with the ability to follow processes end-to-endComfortable investigating issues and forming balanced, evidence-based conclusionsConfident working with data, spreadsheets, and dashboardsAble to write clearly and concisely for senior audiencesOrganised, dependable, and comfortable managing multiple prioritiesProfessional judgement, discretion, and integrity are essentialAbility to be self-motivatedMindsetPractical and solutions-focusedCurious and willing to challenge where something doesn’t look rightComfortable operating in a fast-moving environmentTakes ownership and follows things through
