Job Description

We are looking for Consultant Psychiatriwho will be responsible for the expert assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of patients with a wide range of mental health disorders. This role includes providing clinical leadership, contributing to service development, and participating in education, training, and research activities, all while ensuring compliance with national and international medical ethics and regulatory standards.Key Responsibilities1. Clinical Care and ManagementProvide highly specialized psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, and management of complex cases across various conditions (e.g., Depression, Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia, Anxiety disorders, PTSD, Substance Use Disorders).Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based treatment plans, incorporating psychotherapy, psychopharmacology (medication management), and other therapeutic interventions.Conduct comprehensive psychiatric evaluations, risk assessments, and mental status examinations.Lead and participate in multidisciplinary team meetings (MDTs) for holistic patient care planning.Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all patient care, records, and clinical activities in line with hospital policies and Qatar’s healthcare regulations.2. Clinical Leadership and SupervisionProvide clinical leadership and expertise within the mental health team or a defined service area.Supervise, mentor, and provide clinical guidance to junior psychiatrists, residents, fellows, and allied mental health professionals.Collaborate and liaise effectively with other medical specialties, primary care providers, and external agencies to ensure integrated patient care.3. Education, Research, and Quality ImprovementContribute to the continuous professional development (CPD) of the healthcare team through teaching, formal training programs, and case discussions.Participate in clinical governance, quality assurance, and audit activities to monitor and improve service delivery and patient safety.Engage in research and scholarly activities to advance psychiatric knowledge and contribute to the development of mental health policies and protocols within the institution and the country.4. Administrative and Professional DutiesParticipate in departmental and organizational meetings as required.Adhere strictly to medical ethics, patient confidentiality, and safety standards.Potentially participate in an on-call or emergency psychiatry rota, depending on the facility.Required Qualifications and ExperienceEssential Qualifications:Medical Degree: MD or MBBS from a recognized and accredited institution.Specialist Certification: Completion of a recognized residency/specialist training program in Psychiatry (e.g., American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPS-C), UK CCT/CESR, Arab Board of Health Specializations, or equivalent Western qualification).Post-Specialization Experience: A minimum of 1 to 7+ years of experience as a Consultant/Specialist post-board certification, with experience requirements varying by facility and country of certification.Language: Fluency in English is essential. Bilingual Arabic/English skills are often highly preferred or required, particularly in patient-facing roles.Key Competencies:Exceptional diagnostic, therapeutic, and clinical management skills.Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills (verbal and written).Compassionate, patient-focused approach to mental health care.Ability to work effectively in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team environment.
