Job Description

ABOUT TRADE TOOLS Made-to-measure marketing for trades.Trade Tools Marketing is built for the people who actually show up when things break. For plumbers rushing to floods, the HVAC techs keeping homes comfortable, the electricians keeping the lights on, and every other home service business, keeping homes and communities running.A lot of marketing in this space has been pushed into automation. Everything feels ‘plug-n-play’ and generic. We saw an opportunity. Home service businesses don’t need more templates, they need to stand out. They need partners who understand the work and bring the same level of care they bring into someone’s home. That’s what we call blue bootie service (iykyk). It’s our version of white glove treatment but built for home services. We’re building Trade Tools the same way home service businesses start anything: step by step, hand-on and always testing and improving. Strategy, creative and performance tied directly to booked jobs and real outcomes, not vanity metrics.Right now, we’re building the blueprint and the team from the ground up. We’re looking for people who like solving problems, rolling up their sleeves, and doing good work with good people.THE ROLE Build stories people actually want to find. You’re obsessed with what people are searching for, the problems they’re trying to solve, where the gaps are, and how to help them get the answer they want as quickly and clearly as possible. You'll plan, write, and shape content across websites, blogs, landing pages, emails, and campaigns, making complex, technical, messy topics feel clear, human, and useful. This isn't SEO for algorithms. You'll write content that actually does something: ranks, converts, reassures, educates, or connects. You'll collaborate with our Art Director and Social Creator so the visuals and messaging stay aligned across channels. This is a part-time role with consistent/flexible weekly hours that will grow when we grow.WHAT YOU'LL DOBuild and run a monthly content calendar rooted in real search behaviourWrite and edit service pages, blogs, FAQs, and landing page copyTranslate plumbing/drain topics into clear human languageWrite supporting short-form messaging for social/paidShape messaging for campaigns and offersOptimize content for visibility without making it sound like 'SEO content'Improve site structure, internal links, titles, and meta to strengthen searchTrack AI search surfaces (AIOs, ChatGPT citations, Perplexity, Reddit patterns)Work with the AD + Creator so every message lives across video + creativeTurn search insights, Reddit threads, and call transcripts into content ideasTrack performance and recommend improvementsWHAT YOU BRING Experience writing digital content (journalism background is a plus)Strong storytelling instincts where you can make dry topics feel usefulUnderstand SEO fundamentals without writing like SEOAble to simplify complex informationOrganized, self-directed, and comfortable owning projects from idea to publishCurious about where search is going nextCollaborative across creative, performance, and strategyWHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE (90 DAYS)Clear, simple content plan in motionRefreshed service pages performing betterFoundational blog content drafted and interlinkedStrong SEO fundamentals in placeCampaign messaging sharpenedContent being used by AD + CreatorYou become the clarity + messaging brainDETAILSTitle: Content StrategistType: Part-Time, contract/freelance Rate: $40–$50/hr Start: December / January Location: Remote (Canada) / GTA preferred
