How about you?Immediate Superior: Timothy WilliamsJob Grade: 02Location: StellenboschFunction: Supply ChainSub Function: Supply Chain - ProductionType of Contract: PermanentReference Number: 147131Closing Date: 21/11/2025 Purpose of the Role To learn and develop the traditional and technical skills of coopering under the guidance of experienced coopers within a three-year period. The Cooper Trainee will assist in the construction, repair, and maintenance of barrels and alternative wood products while ensuring safety, quality, and efficiency.Key Responsibilities Assist in the preparation of staves, hoops, and other barrel components. Learn to use hand tools and machinery safely and effectively. Support Coopers with barrel assembly, charring/toasting, and repairs. Maintain a clean and safe working area in line with workshop standards. Participate in on-the-job training, workshops, and assessments. Handle materials, barrels, and equipment safely and responsibly. Observe and comply with health, safety, and quality standards always. Actively participate in TPM activities Comply with all instructions and training requirements Minimum Requirements Grade 12 or equivalent Basic numeracy and literacy skills. Physically fit and able to handle manual work (heavy lifting, bending, standing for long periods). Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Willingness and ability to learn a skilled trade through practical training within a 3-year period. Ability to work effectively under pressure in a fast-paced environment Punctuality and attendance reliability Advantageous Experience/Knowledge Prior exposure to woodworking, carpentry trades. Experience with hand tools, planers, bandsaws, thicknesser and power tools. Knowledge of workshop and/or factory safety. Previous work experience in a manufacturing, winery, brewery, or agricultural environment. Key Competencies & Attributes Strong interest in learning a traditional craft and technical skills.
