Cost Accounting Assistant

Starlight Investments, in conjunction with WP Osborne Executive Search, is seeking a Cost Accounting Assistant to join their Development Finance team.Cost Accounting AssistantReporting directly to the Senior Manager, Development Finance, the Cost Accounting Assistant is responsible for producing accurate and timely accounting for the project portfolio while identifying and mitigating risk. The Cost Accounting Assistant will work with the other finance team members to support the company’s financial plans, policies and accounting practices in accordance with compliance and legislative requirements.Duties and Responsibilities:Process vendor invoices, purchase orders, and coordinate with the Accounts Payable Manager for payment of invoices;Review and verify that cumulative invoices submitted by vendors are accurate;Onboard vendors according to the company’s vendor policy;Review project budgets, report on budget amendments and maintain budgetary controls;Process budget revisions through coordination with Development/Construction Managers;Conduct project accounting activities, including review of project-related vendor expenses, project percentage completion and work in progress, and respond to information requests from Project Managers;Support Development/Construction Managers by ensuring timely resolution of invoice or accounts payable issues;Assist and support with mapping and the correct allocation of costs to projects’ accounts and work packages;Effectively communicate with Development/Construction Managers regarding contract/purchase order documents, change orders and other contract/purchase order modifications, approvals, and additional services;Coordinate with the development and construction team to prepare final invoice packages for all billable projects;Prepare general ledger reconciliations as required;Prepare weekly and monthly actual cost and commitments reports;Maintain internal control processes and protocols as established within the development finance department;QualificationsThe qualified candidate will possess a University Degree or Diploma in accounting, finance or related field, a minimum of 1 year experience in cost accounting or accounts payable; knowledge of standard contract terms, including hourly, lump sum, not-to-exceed and how they are applied in the billing process; proficiency with electronic accounting systems; ability to understand project budgets and financial forecasts; and strong organization, analytical, problem-solving, communication and time management skills with a strong focus on attention to detail.
