Position Summary:The Data Analyst is responsible for providing reporting and analytics support through data preparation, report maintenance, and basic analysis tasks. The role is also required to focus on developing foundational technical, analytical, and visualization capabilities while ensuring recurring reports and data outputs are accurate, consistent, and delivered on time.Responsibilities:Report Maintenance and DistributionUpdate, format, and distribute recurring reports to meet operational and business requirements.Maintain report templates and version control logs to ensure traceability and consistency.Apply basic visual formatting, filters, and checks to ensure accuracy before publishing.Track and meet reporting deadlines, escalating any delays to the Data Analyst II or Senior Manager.Data Preparation and CleaningPrepare and clean raw datasets by removing duplicates, applying basic formulas, and formatting fields.Ensure data alignment with enterprise field definitions and report back discrepancies.Label files clearly, follow naming conventions, and maintain data hygiene standards.Support data preparation for dashboards and ad hoc analysis led by Data Analyst II or Senior Manager.Basic Data Analysis Perform simple comparisons and trend identification on small datasets.Generate charts, visuals, and basic summaries using structured templates.Flag anomalies or unusual movements in data for further investigation by senior team members.Support ad-hoc data requests with quick extracts and pre-defined breakdowns.Team Support and CollaborationCollaborate with Data Analyst II and Senior Manager to meet reporting requirements and improve workflows.Provide first-line assistance for basic stakeholder queries (e.g., report access, version confirmation).Document processes and maintain team repositories for recurring reports.Minimum Requirements:Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree / Advanced Diploma in Business Analytics/ Information Systems/ Computer Science/ Statistics related qualification. Certification or training in Excel, Power BI, or basic SQ advantageous.Experience: 2+ years of progressive experience in analytics/BI/reporting internship roles.Exposure to BI tools (Power BI or Tableau) and Excel (pivot tables, formulas, charts).Familiar with basic data preparation and validation techniques.SQL and independent report buildingCompetenciesEnsures accuracy in reporting and data preparation.Can clean, stage, and format datasets for analysis.Eager to explore data and understand business context.Able to write clear, simple summaries and document work.Willing to learn new tools, techniques, and business processes quickly.Works effectively with peers and supports team objectives.Prioritises tasks effectively under supervision and meets deadlines..Technical SkillsIntermediate skills (pivot tables, basic formulas, lookups, conditional formatting).Basic proficiency in Power BI, Tableau, or equivalent for simple report edits or updates.Familiarity with cleaning and staging data for reporting.Ability to maintain version control and basic process documentation.Awareness of querying concepts (select, filter, join) – developing competence expected. “Employment Equity Policy Requirements may be applicable”At Massmart, we are committed to fostering a workplace culture where everyone feels valued, respected, and a true sense of belonging.
