This role involves designing, implementing, and maintaining analytical reports, dashboards, and data systems, to support research funding, innovation impacts, and portfolio-wide metrics. The analysis conducted plays a key role in shaping planning and strategic decision-making regarding research support. The incumbent ensures the accuracy and quality of data and contributes to strategic decision-making by evaluating and deploying technological solutions that enhance data accessibility and usability.Organizational StatusReports to the Assistant Vice-President, Research. Works closely with internal stakeholders across the VPRI portfolio and liaises with other offices at UBC to fulfill data requests.Work PerformedData Collection, Analysis, and ReportingPlans, designs, develops, and implements analytical reports and statistical insights on research funding, research supports and research and innovation impacts. Provides solutions for merging, linking, and enhancing data across sources/systems to generate meaningful academic mission-related insights. Contributes to and evaluates technological solutions to meet reporting and data needs for the VPRI portfolio. Gathers requirements on reports from portfolio units and supports end-user deployment of reports for end users. Evaluates the feasibility of and recommends self-service data reporting solutions. Responsible for implementing data reporting solutions Responds to internal and external requests for statistical information. Develops and maintains data dashboards and other visualization strategies to facilitate effective access to and communication of research and innovation related data. Provides data for campus-wide data metrics and benchmarking projects. Performs quality assurance testing. Data Systems and OperationsProvides extraction and analysis of data from the RISE system. Develops and performs data integration solutions to improve data accessibility for reporting and analysis purposes. Operates database management systems to extract and analyze data. Identifies and troubleshoots database design, programming and technical problems of custom databases and applications used in portfolio operations. Provides technical opinions on suitability of techniques and methodology for data collection and management. Performs quality assurance testing; conducting post-implementation reviews to ensure continuous improvement and learning. Consequence of Error/JudgementErrors in data analysis, reporting, or visualization could lead to misinformed decision-making at senior levels, potentially impacting the portfolio’s ability to achieve its strategic objectives. Minimum of four years of related experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate complex data insights and recommendations in both written and verbal formats to diverse audiences. Proven analytical skills with the capacity to interpret and translate data into actionable strategies and solutions. Demonstrated exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational and time-management skills to effectively prioritize and complete multiple projects within tight deadlines Skilled in developing and delivering engaging presentations tailored to different stakeholders, ensuring clarity and understanding of technical or statistical information. Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain collaborative relationships across various organizational levels and teams.
