Established in 1964 by the Sisters of St.

Clare, we are the largest Catholic elementary school in the Diocese, with two sections of each grade level K- 4, and three sections of each grade level 5-8. The mission of St. Michael's School is to guide students to grow in faith, knowledge, and character. Differentiated instruction is provided so that each student is challenged at their "just-right" learning level. We seek to educate the whole child, and students are encouraged to develop their God-given talents. With rich content and an emphasis on inquiry-based and student-driven projects, students are empowered and encouraged to be active and engaged learners.

Position OverviewSt. Michael's School seeks an inspiring music teacher who is responsible for teaching music education to students in Preschool through Grade 8. Students will grow in their enjoyment, appreciation, and performance of music through a variety of planned music experiences which include singing, moving to music, and playing instruments, as well as basic music theory and history.

Teaching ResponsibilitiesTeaches general music to students in Preschool through eighth grade including music theory, appreciation, history, and musical theatre aligned to standardsUtilizes repertoire of all types of music literature, including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of studentsTeaches liturgical music for weekly school MassesPrepares and leads student choir for school MassesServes as Musical Director for school musical theatre program (two shows per year); works collaboratively with the Artistic DirectorPlans, rehearses, and directs students in three musical programs for school and community (two Christmas Programs and Spring Fine Arts Festival)Prepares and leads choir for graduation, Catholic Schools Week Open House, Fall Festival, and other smaller eventsEstablishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performancesEvaluates each student's musical growth and contribution to the performance of the groupCommunicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual studentsMaintains care/responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuseRequirementsReligious QualificationsActive, practicing Roman Catholic (preferred)Respects and understands a Catholic school philosophyProfessional QualificationsBA in Music or Music EducationKnowledge of sacred music, specifically the Roman Catholic MassVocal skillsPiano AccompanimentPhysical RequirementsTo successfully meet the needs of the students in his/her care, the teacher must:

Spend the majority of the day standing in the classroom. While standing the teacher will frequently hold objects they are working with or demonstratingSit on an occasional basis when developing lesson plans, grading, etc. Walk through the classroom and be able to maneuver in tight spaces between desks.

Walk on both even and uneven surfacesDeal with students while kneeling or squatting, stooping, or bendingReach at, below, or above shoulder height with the dominant upper extremity; may require trunk or neck rotation to look back at the classAssist in moving children's desks and chairs to change the layout of the classroom to influence the learning situation. It is occasionally necessary to lift and carry boxes weighing up to 25 pounds from the office to classroomsWhile performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to be inside the classroom.

The employee is required to be mobile to, from, and within the classroom and preschool environment, as well as maneuver throughout the school facility to attend meetings, trainings, and other work-related events. The employee may be required to conduct trips to, from, and within various city and county-wide locations to attend trainings or workshops.
