POSITION OVERVIEWThe Director of Buying, E-Commerce leads the end-to-end assortment strategy for TommyJohn.com, ensuring a cohesive, brand-right product presentation that drives sales, profitability, and inventory productivity. This leader combines data-driven decision-making with a strong understanding of customer behavior and brand positioning to deliver a best-in-class digital retail experience.PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESStrategic Assortment & BuyingOwn the full buying vision and strategy for the company, accountable for total sales, margin, and inventory KPIs.Set seasonal and long-term growth goals, aligned with brand and financial objectives.Build and manage a high-performing buying team.Partner closely with the ELT on financials, brand direction, and customer strategy.Own the buying and milestone calendar, ensuring effective management of team deadlines and workload.Serve as OTB owner in partnership with Planning, with fiscal responsibility for sales, margin, and inventory targets.Oversee seasonal investment and choice-level strategies in collaboration with Planning and direct reports.Partner with the VP of Merchandising to maintain the Product Roadmap, aligning cross-functional teams on priorities and storytelling initiatives.Analyze and report on key product metrics (sales, margin, inventory turn) and translate insights into actionable strategies.Lead weekly selling meetings with Planning; own recommendations and business-driving actions presented in Weekly Business Reviews.Identify and act on opportunities to optimize the onsite experience, partnering with Site Merchandising to update PLPs, PDPs, and category displays in real time.Develop long-range product and category growth strategies informed by market data, brand vision, and customer insights.Lead milestone meetings (Hindsight, Budget & Strategy, Investment Reviews, etc.) and present in-depth business analyses to senior leadership.Champion the voice of the customer across product, pricing, and presentation decisions.Stay informed on digital retail and competitive trends, leveraging insights to evolve buying, pricing, and product testing strategies.People ManagementLead and develop a team of 2+ Buyers at varied levels; may include 1+ indirect reports.Foster a culture of curiosity, accountability, and innovation within the buying function.Provide regular performance feedback and career development support, increasing engagement and retention.Build organizational capability through mentoring, coaching, and skill development initiatives.Cross-Functional & External PartnershipsBuild strong, collaborative relationships across the organization, including with the ELT.Partner with Design and Merchandising to align on best/worst sellers and identify whitespace opportunities to differentiate the e-commerce channel.Collaborate with Site Experience and Digital Product teams to ensure the online merchandising experience reflects assortment priorities, customer segmentation, and conversion goals.Partner with Planning to develop performance plans, pricing strategies, and in-season adjustments.Lead seasonal campaign and launch calendar planning, ensuring alignment across all touchpoints.Drive key seasonal initiatives and product priorities through cross-functional collaboration, campaign execution, and ongoing optimization.QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, & EXPERIENCEExperience:10–12 years of retail buying experience, including 6–8 years of direct e-commerce and managerial experience.Bachelor’s degree or equivalent required.Proven success leading cross-functional go-to-market processes, including product launches, campaigns, and digital storytelling.Deep understanding of digital performance metrics such as conversion, sell-through, and customer engagement analytics.Skills:Strong strategic thinking and analytical abilities.Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills.Highly organized, with exceptional attention to detail and project management capabilities.Creative problem solver who thrives in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.Advanced proficiency in Excel and Google Sheets; strong overall computer literacy.Collaborative leader who inspires confidence, fosters teamwork, and drives results.Demonstrates alignment with TJ core values: Humble, Adaptable, Mindful, GSD, & CuriousAbility to be on-site in our HQ Office in Downtown Manhattan [3] days per week.Salary Range: $135,000 - $150,000
