Department: Environmental Health & SafetyLocation: Columbia, PA - PlantDescriptionASC is looking for an Environmental Health and Safety Director, who will be responsible for overseeing and implementing environmental, health, and safety programs across multiple locations within our organization. You will ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, develop and execute safety training programs, and promote a culture of safety and environmental stewardship within the company.How You Will HelpSafety Culture Development:Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of the company’s safety culture.Promote a proactive safety mindset through training, communication, and recognition programs.Work closely with senior leadership to embed safety principles into the company’s core values.Organize and lead safety engagement activities, including safety campaigns, events, and awareness programs.Foster a culture of open communication and continuous feedback regarding safety practices across all departments.Safety Management Systems (AEMS):Implement and manage the Safety Management System aligned with company standards and regulatory requirements.Regularly assess and audit the effectiveness of the safety management system and make recommendations for improvements.Ensure the system captures both lagging and leading indicators, driving forward-thinking strategies to minimize risks.Review and analyze safety data to identify trends, prioritize risks, and implement appropriate corrective and preventive actions.Leading Indicators Management:Develop, track, and report on key leading indicators that predict safety performance and identify potential hazards before they result in incidents.Implement programs that support the tracking of safety metrics such as near-miss reports, safety observations, hazard identification, and risk assessments.Work with department managers to ensure leading indicators are appropriately understood, tracked, and acted upon.Present actionable insights from leading indicators to leadership teams, supporting data-driven decision-making and strategic planning for safety improvements.Training and EducationDevelop and deliver safety training programs for employees at all levels, emphasizing best practices and regulatory compliance.Collaborate with department managers to ensure that all employees receive appropriate safety training and education.Provide guidance on safety procedures, protocols, and equipment usage.Risk ManagementCollaborate with cross-functional teams to identify and assess risks related to environmental, health, and safety issues.Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies and contingency plans.Investigate incidents, accidents, and near-misses to determine root causes and prevent recurrence.Stakeholder EngagementServe as the primary point of contact for environmental, health, and safety matters within the region, both internally and externally.Liaise with regulatory agencies, industry groups, and community stakeholders to foster positive relationships and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.Continuous ImprovementDrive a culture of continuous improvement in environmental, health, and safety performance.Lead initiatives to identify opportunities for enhancing safety practices, reducing environmental impact, and improving overall operational efficiency.Additional responsibilities and duties may be assigned. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) preferred.8-10 years of proven experience in environmental, health, and safety management, preferably in a regional or multi-site capacity.Strong knowledge of applicable regulations and standards, with the ability to interpret and apply them effectively.Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and engage stakeholders at all levels of the organization.Analytical mindset, with the ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop data-driven solutions.Strong leadership and project management skills, with the ability to drive initiatives from conception to implementation.Commitment to fostering a culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement within the organization.
