Digital Services delivers the IT infrastructure, platforms, and services that support learning, teaching, research, and the business systems that underpin the University’s operations. Digital Services provides online, telephone, and on-campus support, and leads an annual program of strategic projects to enhance, replace, or introduce new technologies —driving innovation and advancing the University’s strategic direction.Digital Services is seeking an experienced and forward-thinking transformation leader for the role of Director, IT Transition. In this senior role, you will lead a multi-faceted transformation that will define how digital services are designed and delivered across the University. If you are ready to lead meaningful change and strengthen organisational performance, we want to hear from you.About the OpportunityAs the Director, IT Transition, you will lead the strategic implementation of a new operating model across the ITDS portfolio, guiding governance reform, financial model redesign, workforce transformation, and process uplift. This role is central to building future readiness, driving performance, and embedding scalable, repeatable practices that support the University's strategic goals.You will oversee change initiatives that reshape how ITDS operates - enhancing capability, enabling cross-functional collaboration, and ensuring delivery excellence. With responsibility for performance frameworks, benefits realisation, and structured change delivery, this role works across multiple portfolios to ensure coordinated, measurable transformation outcomes.Key ResponsibilitiesThe Director, IT Transition, will be responsible for:Leading the transition roadmap for governance, financial structures, workforce models, and tooling.Driving organisational change through structured frameworks, toolkits, and playbooks.Leading process improvement, automation, and adoption of AI-enhanced practices.Establishing performance and benefits realisation frameworks to monitor progress, risks, and value delivery.Building strategic partnerships across ITDS, Finance, People and Culture, and Strategy to align transformation outcomes.Leading and supporting cross-functional teams, change leads, and process analysts to embed new ways of working.Representing ITDS transition functions at executive forums, contributing to enterprise planning and digital maturity.This is a full time, fixed-term appointment for 2 years. The appointment will be based at Western’s Hawkesbury or Parramatta South campus, although travel to other campuses of the University may be required. For further information, please refer to the Position Description linked here: Director, IT Transition - Position Description.About YouYou are a strategic, people-focused change leader with deep experience delivering complex operating model transformations. You have a proven track record of leading large-scale organisational change, uplifting workforce capability, and embedding tools, processes, and governance structures that drive long-term impact.To be successful in this role, you will have:Tertiary qualifications in Business, IT, or a related field.Extensive experience leading transformation and organisational change in large, federated environments.Demonstrated success in operating model reform, capability uplift, and benefits realisation.Strong knowledge of agile delivery, IT operating models, and digital service frameworks (SAFe, ITSM).Experience managing cross-functional dependencies across workforce, tools, and service delivery.Proficiency in structured change frameworks (e.g. PROSCI) and digital collaboration tools (e.g. Confluence, Jira, MS Teams).Strategic partnership skills with the ability to engage senior stakeholders and executive leadership.Familiarity with digital maturity models, AI and automation trends, and the higher education context is desirable.Lead the change.
