You’ll collaborate with the engineers behind JBL’s iconic sound to help develop the next generation of professional loudspeakers.Based in Shenzhen Development Center (SDC), you’ll play a key role in creating groundbreaking products — from high-performance sub-satellite systems to flagship line arrays and advanced rigging systems. This role is hands-on, working directly with cutting-edge equipment and contributing to designs that set new industry standards.In this role, you will report to the Engineering Manager.What You Will DoDesign and develop complex mechanical systems, components and assemblies for amplifiers, loudspeaker cabinets, suspension components, brackets, fixtures and accessories. Collaborate with systems and acoustic engineering teams to define and develop key mechanical assemblies, requirements and specificationsCollaborate with global engineering teams to integrate internal Harman technology into new products. Research design options and perform experiments to determine potential design feasibility or application. Construct prototypes, evaluate and document their performance, identify improvementsExplore new and existing materials and methods to solve design and/or cost challengesCreate and implement suitable tests to verify designs meet mechanical requirements including applicable international safety regulatory aspectsCreate engineering models, drawings, BOMs, test plans, and technical reportsAssist in the creation and release of Product Requirements, Design Specifications, and Design Descriptions for assigned designs, applicable standards and procedures. Responsible for recording and sharing technical knowledge gained with colleagues. Work closely with ODMs to expand development capabilities and ensure that designs meet Harman guidelines for quality, cost, and performance. Co-work with supplier for tooling development, on-site support required when neededCollaborate with internal or external factories for DV/PV/MP build, on-site support required when neededWhat You Need To Be SuccessfulBachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering8+ years related engineering experienceProficiency in SolidWorks or other CAD toolsThorough understanding of fundamental mechanical engineering principlesExperience with testing, reliability and qualification of systemsHands-on experience with mechanical assemblies utilizing rapid prototyping methods and equipmentHigh degree of comfort with ambiguity in early-phase project investigationProficiency in the design and development of plastic components for Injection Molding. Familiarity with standard fabrication, welding, and machining practices. Is a self-starter, can manage multiple tasks, and work with minimal supervisionExperience working with cross-functional teams in a matrixed environmentBonus Points if You Have Master’s degree in mechanical engineeringPrevious experience in Speaker, Amplifier or other acoustic products is desirableStructural engineering knowledge for rigging and suspension system designFamiliar with standard measuring equipment and CMMs. Tenacious problem solving & issue resolution skillsProficiency with ANSYS, Icepack, Moldflow and other FEA simulation tools is highly preferredWhat Makes You EligibleWillingness to travel.
