Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.ENVIRONMENTAL TECHNICIANThe Environmental Technician is responsible for implementing and maintaining regulatory requirements relating to the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Certified Unified Program Agency (CUPA) and Department of Transportation (DOT). In this role you will work with engineers and technicians daily to ensure that our manufacturing campus and west coast recovery operations can support SpaceX goals while meeting all environmental objectives and regulatory requirements.ResponsibilitiesEnsure environmental compliance with all applicable regulations including but not limited to EPA, RCRA, CUPA and DOTPerform tasks related to RCRA regulatory hazardous waste handling, storage and disposal requirements:Monitor and manage levels of hazardous waste at each department’s satellite accumulation areaPerform waste removal activities, and waste determinations of new waste streams in partnership with the EHS team and work centersEnsure all waste is properly labeled, and properly stored, according to its classificationAccurately record and maintain 90-day hazardous waste inventory logsPerform all required hazardous waste and hazardous material storage area inspectionsSchedule, prepare, and assist in the execution of waste shipments in partnership with the SpaceX Environmental team and waste disposal contractorConsolidate and Lab pack waste when appropriatePerform tasks related to spill response and prevention, including clean up and/or the coordination of cleaning activities with a third partyImplement the Spill Prevention Countermeasures and Control Plan (SPCC) throughout the Hawthorne facilityOrder and maintain adequate supplies such as spill response materials, containers and consumables for waste management, and other equipment necessary to maintain proper disposal of hazardous waste and to support environmental compliance programsPerform compliance and due diligence audits in support of SpaceX environmental programsManage hazardous materials and ensure all hazardous materials are labeled and stored properly in the storage areasPerform regular inspections such as hazardous waste accumulation and storage, universal waste storage, emergency eye wash/shower, SPCC, stormwater, industrial waste waterSupport waste minimization activities, risk reduction, and process improvement initiatives under direction of the SpaceX Environmental teamBasic QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalency certificate2+ years of experience implementing and overseeing aspects related to an environmental, health and safety programPreferred Skills And QualificationsExperience in managing hazardous waste storage and satellite accumulation areasExperience with emergency response crews in incidents involving hazardous and non-hazardous material releases to air, soil, and waterExperience using Windows operating systems, Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook)Demonstrated strong propensity for hands-on work and attention to detail in either academic or career pursuitsAbility to multi-task, manage shifting priorities, and to follow through on projects with minimal supervisionAbility to work in a construction/industrial environmentAbility to communicate well with technicians and engineersStrong organizational and communication skillsAdditional RequirementsThis is not a remote or hybrid position and will require relocation if not already local to the Hawthorne, CA areaMust be available for 1st shift: Monday to Friday from 5:30AM to 4PMPosition occasionally requires the ability to work overtime and weekends when neededAble to work with hazardous materials and environments, while wearing appropriate PPEAbility to lift up to 30 lbs unassistedPay RangeCOMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Level 1: $24.00 - $27.00/hourLevel 2: $26.00 - $33.00/hourYour actual level and base salary will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.Base salary is just one part of your total rewards package at SpaceX.
