Job DescriptionUnder the direction of the EHR Epic Program Director, the Epic Ambulatory & Outpatient Applications Manager and the Epic Inpatient Applications Manager will each lead a team of more than 10 IT and workflow professionals. These are direct staff management roles responsible for the strategic development, implementation, and long-term support of Epic applications across the SFDPH network. Epic Ambulatory & Outpatient Applications ManagerOversees Epic Ambulatory and specialty modules such as EpicCare Nephrology, Bones Orthopaedics, Kaleidoscope Ophthalmology, Wisdom Dental, and Behavioral Health.Manages all aspects of EpicCare Link and supports external partner access to outpatient tools. Epic Inpatient Applications ManagerOversees Epic Inpatient and specialty modules including EpicCare Jail Health, Willow Ambulatory, Willow Inpatient, Orders, Optime, ASAP (Emergency Department), Optime/Anesthesia (Surgery), and Behavioral Health.Manages inpatient-related third-party access and integration with Epic tools.Common ResponsibilitiesLead and manage cross-functional teams supporting Epic application domains, including strategy development, planning, testing, quality assurance, documentation, and user acceptance.Serve as the primary liaison for Epic application teams and third-party partners accessing Epic tools outside the DPH Network.Collaborate with Workstream IT Managers and operational teams to assess workflow needs, system design, and translate requirements into functional solutions.Facilitate integrated workgroups, ensure coordination between applications, and maintain implementation timelines and documentation.Support Epic access for all users across a complex technical environment that spans multiple institutions and a diverse suite of applications.Coordinate functions and activities across SFDPH divisions, affiliate organizations, and external partners, with a focus on Primary Care, Specialty Care, and Behavioral Health.Foster cross-collaboration with internal SFDPH operational groups to ensure alignment and continuity of care.Common Duties IncludeOrganize, direct and supervise the work of subordinate staff. Provide feedback and coach staff through professional development.Participate in the development and implementation of goals, objectives, policies, priorities and procedures for the assigned programs. Ensure that activities are completed in a timely and efficient manner consistent with defined policies and regulations. Assume significant responsibility for the preparation and administration of assigned budget(s).Represent the department at various meetings. Coordinate training programs for staff and users; design, fund, schedule and/or arrange for outside trainers. Function as liaison to other units or departments for data processing activities; coordinate sharing of common software applications and data. Develop and present information systems Master Plan. Develop, program and maintain unit data processing applications. Review and provide direction for system production activities. Install new devices and software for computer and telecommunication systems; and/or coordinate installation plans with vendors, administrators, users, programmers, analysts, etc. Perform complex system administrator and/or production functions for computer and communication systems. Monitor, analyze and resolve problems for systems with varied environments, including PC-based networks, mini computers, mainframes and the like. Evaluate hardware and software. Coordinate consultants in the purchase of hardware and software and the establishment of custom software applications for departments. May prepare specifications and purchase orders; manage vendor accounts; recommend consulting services as needed: establish maintenance contracts for equipment. Evaluate and recommend department equipment purchases; may maintain inventories of materials, supplies and equipment.
