Job Description

Role DescriptionThe core function of an FF&E Designer is to select, source, and specify all the items that are not permanently fixed to the building structure (the furniture, decorative lighting, soft furnishings, artwork, and equipment).Key ResponsibilitiesConcept Development: Working with the client and lead interior designer/architect to develop and execute the FF&E design direction, including creating mood boards and material palettes.Sourcing and Selection: Researching, selecting, and specifying all FF&E items (e.g., sofas, tables, chairs, rugs, curtains, artwork, decorative lighting, wall coverings, and bespoke joinery details) that align with the design vision, budget, and quality standards.Documentation and Specifications: Preparing detailed FF&E documentation, including specification sheets (known as schedules), material samples, furniture layouts, and custom design drawings.Budget and Procurement: Assisting in budgeting for FF&E, liaising with vendors and suppliers to obtain quotes, negotiating pricing, and coordinating the procurement and delivery process.Coordination: Collaborating closely with interior designers, architects, contractors, and procurement teams to ensure seamless integration of FF&E elements and maintaining design intent from concept to installation.Quality Control: Reviewing samples, mock-ups, and shop drawings to ensure they meet design and quality standards, and overseeing on-site installation and styling.Qualifications and SkillsThe role typically requires a blend of creative talent, technical knowledge, and strong organizational skills.Essential QualificationsEducation: A Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or a related field is generally required.Experience: 6+ years, particularly in specialized sectors like luxury residential or hospitality.Portfolio: A strong, professional portfolio is essential, demonstrating material knowledge, design flair, and documentation skills.Key Skills and ProficienciesDesign and Materials Knowledge: Deep understanding of furniture construction, finishes, textiles, lighting, and current design trends.Technical Proficiency:AutoCAD (for drawing and detailing)Adobe Creative Suite (especially InDesign and Photoshop for presentations and mood boards)SketchUp or other 3D rendering software (a plus)Microsoft Excel/Specialized Software (for specification, scheduling, and budgeting)Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills for dealing with clients, design teams, and international vendors.Organization: Exceptional time management, organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple projects and tight deadlines.Detail-Oriented: A strong eye for detail to ensure accuracy in specifications, quality of products, and precision in installation.
