Job Title: OSP Fiber Designer (QGIS & AutoCAD)Company: Glass Utility EngineeringLocation: Ottawa, OntarioEmployment Type: Full-TimeDepartment: Engineering / DesignReports To: OSP Design ManagerPosition Summary:Glass Utility Engineering is seeking a detail-oriented OSP Fiber Designer to develop fiber distribution network designs using QGIS and AutoCAD. The ideal candidate will produce accurate, constructible, and compliant designs that meet project standards and customer requirements.The OSP Fiber Designer will be responsible for creating QGIS-based design layouts and drafting complete construction print packages in AutoCAD, ensuring all deliverables meet client expectations and Glass Utility Engineering’s quality standards.Key Responsibilities:Develop fiber distribution designs in QGIS, including conduit routes, handholes, pole line design, cable placement, splicing diagrams, and fiber drops.Prepare construction drawing packages in AutoCAD, including DWG files and PDF prints.Generate required supporting documentation, including fiber count and material sheets.Review and refine QGIS designs internally before drafting final prints.Ensure all designs adhere to customer specifications, engineering standards, and local permitting requirements.Interpret survey data, base maps, and GIS datasets to ensure design accuracy.Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field teams to resolve design conflicts or address redlines.Perform quality checks on all deliverables prior to submission.Required Qualifications:Education in Engineering, GIS, Telecommunications, or related field — or equivalent work experience.Minimum 2+ years of experience in OSP fiber distribution design.Proficiency with QGIS for broadband network design and spatial data management.Skilled in AutoCAD for preparing construction drawings and permit packages.Strong understanding of fiber distribution network architecture (FTTH, PON, or similar).Familiarity with aerial and underground OSP construction practices.Ability to interpret utility maps, base maps, and right-of-way data.Experience designing fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) or broadband expansion projects.Experience with GIS data formats, shapefile management, or database integration.Excellent attention to detail, organization, communication, and collaboration skills.What We Offer:Opportunity to work with a fast-growing engineering firm shaping broadband infrastructure.Collaborative and flexible work environment.Career growth and continued technical training.Job Type: Full-timePay: $24.00-$30.00 per hourExpected hours: 40 per weekBenefits:Casual dressCompany eventsDental careDisability insuranceDiscounted or free foodExtended health careLife insuranceOn-site parkingPaid time offAbility to commute/relocate:Ottawa, ON K2E 8B7: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (required)Experience:OSP Fiber Design: 2 years (preferred)Work Location: In person
